"I had just started my freshman year at university, and because my family was poor, I often couldn't even afford the meals in the cafeteria. Most of the time, a meal consisted of a steamed bun and half a packet of pickled vegetables; sometimes I had to split one bun into two meals." 0

Meng Zhuang paused for a moment before continuing, "Back then, I was a bit introverted. Every time I ate, I was afraid my roommates would see me and mock me. So, whenever it was mealtime, I would sneak off with my bun to eat in the woods behind the dormitory." 0

"My roommates were initially curious and asked why I always ran off to eat. They wondered if I was secretly enjoying some delicious food. I had no choice but to lie and tell them that I preferred eating alone. Over time, they got used to it and stopped asking." 0

"One evening, just like any other day, I took my bun and went to the woods behind the dormitory. Usually, this area was deserted; even if someone passed by, it would only be a cleaner from the school. But that day, there was a girl in my usual spot." 0

"I almost turned around to leave, but when I looked closely, I saw that she was also holding half a bun and quietly eating. At that moment, I thought to myself, could she be like me, a poor student without money? With that thought in mind, I didn't pay much attention and found a spot next to her to eat my meal." 0

"As I ate, I couldn't help but glance at her from time to time. She had short black hair adorned with a pink butterfly hairpin that sparkled under the setting sun. Her dress looked like something cheap sold by the roadside, yet it somehow highlighted her unique charm. Watching her made me forget about my own meal." 0

"Eventually, even when she left, I couldn't tear my gaze away from her. But due to my introverted nature, I didn't dare approach her." 0

Hearing this, I stretched my legs to relieve the numbness from sitting too long while sizing up Meng Zhuang. "You see? If it were you now, you would have gone up to talk to her right away. What a pity for such a beautiful opportunity," I teased him lightly. Yet deep down, I remained cautious of him. Slowly, I slipped my right hand into my pants pocket where my phone was kept, ensuring that I could use it immediately in case of an emergency. 0

Da Zhuang smiled wryly at my teasing. "Don't interrupt me just yet; you'll understand once I'm done." He cleared his throat and continued. 0

"After that day, I watched her walk into the woods. There was an old experimental building hidden among the trees; what could she possibly want there? When I returned to the dormitory later, I asked a roommate named Wang Hao about it and learned that there used to be a storage room for experimental equipment there where two people had died." 0

"Since those deaths, strange occurrences began happening in that building. The few who dared enter either died or went insane; no one else would go near it afterward. The building became abandoned, and even the equipment inside fell into disrepair." 0

"When Wang Hao finished telling this story, another roommate named Cheng Dong excitedly suggested we go inside and find something valuable to sell. But Wang Hao immediately shot him down; he had seen firsthand what happened to those who entered and insisted everyone believe him." 0

"Cheng Dong laughed at him instead. 'You're just a freshman; how long ago were those events? You haven't seen anything!' To our surprise, Wang Hao pulled out a photo from his pocket—this was someone who had gone inside." 0

"When he showed us the photo, we all leaned in closer to look. The middle-aged man in the picture looked disheveled and wore tattered clothes while striking a menacing pose with an eerie grin directed at the camera." 0

"But what struck me was how similar he looked to Wang Hao; he put away the photo saying it was his father—a professor at this school." 0

The others fell silent in shock as they processed this revelation. Cheng Dong seemed surprised but still harbored his mischievous intentions; given his family's financial situation, he couldn't afford to worry too much about such things. 0

"That night, Cheng Dong quietly got out of bed and woke me and another roommate, Long Bin, to take us on a money-making adventure. Long Bin seemed a bit scared, possibly intimidated by Wang Hao's words, and hesitated to go. At that moment, I was blinded by the prospect of wealth and didn't think much about it; I just followed Cheng Dong. 0

We crept through the darkness, sneaking out of the dormitory until we reached the woods. Cheng Dong asked me which direction I had seen that woman go. I pointed towards a rockery ahead. He nodded in understanding and headed towards it, while I followed closely behind, glancing around nervously, afraid of being discovered. 0

As we rounded the rockery, illuminated by the bright moon above, we clearly saw a two-story building ahead. The house wasn't very large; from a distance, we could only see an entrance directly facing us, surrounded by trees. We couldn't tell if there was a back door. 0

I swallowed hard and mustered my courage to follow Cheng Dong. My heart raced with fear, but the thought of money eased my anxiety somewhat. 0

Just as we approached the front door, we heard rustling leaves behind us—sounds growing closer quickly. Cheng Dong walked alone to the door and began fiddling with the large lock, seemingly unaware of anything approaching. 0

I was about to call out to him when suddenly a hand landed on my shoulder, causing my legs to buckle as I fell to the ground. Behind me, I heard Wang Hao's voice, panting, 'Don't be scared; it's me.' Turning towards the sound, I saw it was indeed Wang Hao. 0

I felt a surge of anger and snapped at him, 'You could have at least warned us before sneaking up like that! You nearly scared me to death!' My voice was loud enough for Cheng Dong to hear; he hushed me angrily, 'What are you shouting for? Do you want everyone to hear us?' 0

Wang Hao waved his hand at Cheng Dong and helped me up before striding over to him. Upon seeing Wang Hao, Cheng Dong teased in a mocking tone, 'Oh look—Professor's son has come.' Wang Hao retorted grumpily, 'I'm just worried about you guys getting into trouble. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with this mess.' At that moment, I had no choice but to mediate and urged them to stop arguing. Since we were already here, we should find a way inside. 0

Cheng Dong agreed to let me go in first. He bent down and picked up a large stone as if intending to smash it open. Seeing this, Wang Hao quickly intervened and pulled out a key. 'I have a key—this is what my dad kept after he went crazy. Ever since then, I've been trying to figure out what he saw that made him like this. Honestly, I've wanted to go in myself but was too scared because of potential dangers; that's why I tried to stop you guys. But now that we're all here, let's go together.' With that, Wang Hao inserted the key into the lock. As he turned it, there was a loud click. 0

Cheng Dong snatched the lock away and threw it on the ground before eagerly pulling open the heavy door. The old metal door creaked loudly as it slowly swung open. 0

Peering through the opening, I found the interior shrouded in darkness; I couldn't see anything at all. Just as Cheng Dong and I were at a loss for what to do next, a beam of white light suddenly shot out beside me. I turned towards the source and saw Wang Hao had taken out his phone for illumination. Cheng Dong remarked enviously, 'Ahh, rich people really have it good.' However, Wang Hao ignored him and stepped inside while I hurriedly followed. 0

The three of us wandered around the first floor for a bit. Cheng Dong wanted to take everything he saw—copper wires and experimental equipment piled high in his arms—while I had no idea what might be valuable and felt completely lost. Wang Hao seemed uninterested in any of it; he only wanted to understand why those who entered had ended up like that. 0

Seeing nothing unusual on the first floor, Wang Hao prepared to head upstairs. By this time, Cheng Dong could barely carry anything more but still wanted to take more stuff. Noticing my empty hands, he tossed some items at me so that I could hold them while he picked more things up; we would split everything later. 0

However, carrying so much made it difficult for me to climb the stairs. One misstep caused everything in my arms to clatter loudly onto the floor. Cheng Dong heard the noise from ahead and shouted back at me angrily, 'You're so useless!' In my mind, I thought if he was so capable he should carry it himself. 0

Seeing them move further away as the light faded gradually made me rush to pick up what had fallen and chase after them. But just as I reached the staircase leading to the second floor, I froze." 0

“Cheng Dong and Wang Hao stood in an empty room, looking around. Above them, two people were hanging, yet they seemed completely unaware. I desperately wanted to call out to them, but my overwhelming fear left me unable to make a sound, my mouth agape. 0

Suddenly, the two hanging figures fell, landing right on Cheng Dong and Wang Hao's necks. Both of them let out terrified screams, and Wang Hao's phone dropped to the side. 0

The light from the phone illuminated their faces, and I saw that the girl riding on Wang Hao's neck was the same one I had seen earlier. Cheng Dong and Wang Hao struggled in panic, but no matter how frantically they twisted their bodies, they couldn't shake off the weight on their backs. 0

At that moment, the two figures on their backs emitted a haunting and sorrowful cry while extending long fingers that plunged into Wang Hao and Cheng Dong's eyes. 0

I wanted to save them, but the urge to flee took over. Witnessing this scene, I dropped what I was holding and ran for my life. Just as I burst through the door, the heavy iron gate slammed shut with a loud bang, and piercing screams echoed from inside the building. 0

Afterward, I escaped back to my dormitory. Once there, I wrapped myself tightly in my blanket and managed to endure until dawn. However, Cheng Dong and Wang Hao did not return all night. Worried, I reported the incident to our teacher. 0

The teacher was alarmed upon hearing this and immediately called the police. Soon after, officers arrived at the school and began their investigation. It wasn't long before the dreadful news broke: Cheng Dong and Wang Hao had both died in that abandoned building.” 0
