As the monster's tentacles were about to reach Yao Long, he smirked, revealing a look of triumph. "You think you can hurt me? You're still too inexperienced..." With a flick of his wrist, the bow in his hand was instantly enveloped in blue flames. He steadied himself, adopting an attack stance, and swiftly drew an arrow from the quiver on his back.
With a flash of blue light, three arrows ablaze with blue flames struck the monster right between its eyes. The creature howled in pain and stumbled backward.
But Yao Long wasn't about to let it escape. He dashed out of the elevator, and Death Apostle tried to intervene but was a moment too slow. The three of us had no choice but to follow him.
As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, a wave of intense pressure hit me. I quickly looked around and saw that the elevator was already surrounded by the monster's massive body, the air thick with the stench of blood.
Seeing Yao Long engaged in fierce combat with the creature, Li Zhisheng seemed eager to help. He gathered a black sphere in his palm, several times larger than his fist, and without hesitation hurled it at the monster's face.
The black sphere collided with the creature's head, producing a dull thud that sent a cloud of blood mist into the air.
Yao Long was startled by this sudden attack. He turned to us and shouted, "Stay out of this! It's my prey!"
At that moment, several tentacles thicker than a thigh lunged toward Yao Long. Death Apostle yelled, "Yao Long! Watch out!" As he shouted, a torrent of soul threads erupted from his body in an attempt to shield Yao Long.
But the tentacles were already closing in on Yao Long. Realizing that Death Apostle's soul threads wouldn't reach him in time, I instinctively reached behind my back and grabbed the hilt of Jiang Ling's sword from my bag. Without hesitation, I reversed the blade and plunged it into my own chest, freezing time instantly.
A voice echoed from within me—Void Spirit spoke: "You've called me out twice in such a short time; it seems you've gotten yourself into quite a bit of trouble lately..." I retorted impatiently, "Cut the chatter; we still need to settle last time's score."
Void Spirit scoffed disdainfully, "Hmph, settle scores with me? You think you can?"
Ignoring him, I focused on the urgent situation at hand. The tentacle was mere moments away from piercing Yao Long's brain.
With that thought in mind, I pulled out the sword and suddenly propelled myself forward along the ground.
In an instant, I reached Yao Long's side and sliced off the nearest tentacle before time resumed its normal flow.
Yao Long glanced at me beside him and muttered a quick thanks before swiftly reloading his arrows. "Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh," several arrows flew from his hands, shattering the remaining tentacles.
At that moment, Death Apostle's soul threads arrived just in time to block our path.
As the crisis was resolved, Yao Long smiled awkwardly, "I was careless." But I had no time to pay attention to him; I could only feel the mark on my arm extending to my shoulder. "I didn't return home after using Void Spirit in battle, and I never had the chance to remove the mark. If this continues, I'm afraid..."
Thinking of this, I hurriedly steadied my mind, suppressing the violent rage within me, and finally managed to let the power fade away.
At that moment, Death Apostle approached from behind and grabbed Yao Long's shoulder. "I won't stop you when you're alone and I believe you have the strength, but now you're not alone. If you keep being reckless like this, you might endanger us all!"
Yao Long wilted under Death Apostle's reprimand. He lowered his bow and nodded silently, looking somewhat aggrieved.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed as several tentacles slammed against the barrier made of Soul Threads. "This isn't the time to discipline your subordinates; we need to deal with this thing first!" I raised my arm to block the howling wind while shouting at Death Apostle.
Hearing this, Death Apostle was about to retract his Soul Threads to prepare for battle when a figure shot past me with Killing Intent at an incredible speed. "Li Zhisheng!" I shouted.
He was enveloped in a dark aura as he charged toward the monster.
"Get back into the elevator!" Li Zhisheng yelled from atop the monster.
My heart raced. "Is he planning to use that move he used against Gu Kai to take down this monster?"
With that thought, I quickly urged Yao Long and Death Apostle to retreat into the elevator.
Looking out from inside the elevator, Yao Long's face turned astonished. "No wonder he wanted us to run; if that attack affects us, it won't be a joke!"
Just as he finished speaking, I saw the Black Sphere above Li Zhisheng growing larger and larger, releasing bursts of black smoke from its center. With a roar, he brought the Black Sphere crashing down onto the monster.
But instead of dodging, the monster extended countless tentacles from its eyes, intertwining them into a suction cup-like shape in an attempt to intercept Li Zhisheng's Black Sphere.
As soon as those tentacles touched the sphere, they instantly turned to ash...
Accompanied by a thunderous boom, the Black Sphere plummeted like a blazing meteor. A massive shockwave surged forward with a foul wind. Seeing this, Yao Long quickly spread his arms to block the entrance while blue flames erupted from his body.
Even so, I was still slammed against the metal wall behind me by the force of the impact, producing a dull thud that left me momentarily blinded by pain.
As the dust settled, I struggled to get up and looked around. Yao Long was still surrounded by a blue glow, standing at the door, staring blankly outside as if he had not sustained any injuries.
Meanwhile, Death Apostle had wrapped himself in Soul Threads, forming a protective cocoon like a silkworm's chrysalis.
I cursed Death Apostle inwardly, thinking, "Damn it, at least Yao Long tried to use his body to block for me, while you just tucked yourself away."
With that thought, I knocked on the Soul Threads surrounding Death Apostle and called out, "It's safe now, come out!"
Hearing this, Death Apostle withdrew the Soul Threads into his body. He glanced around and asked, "Where's your friend?"
"Probably still outside... Li Zhisheng!" I shouted towards the elevator, my voice echoing in the empty room, but there was no response from Li Zhisheng.
My heart tightened at once, and I wanted to push past Yao Long towards the door. But as soon as I touched him, I heard the crisp sound of dripping water.
Looking closer, I realized that Yao Long was standing at the door with several bones protruding from a monster's face embedded in him. Blood dripped steadily down from those bones.
"Yao Long! Are you okay?" I hurriedly supported him and called out. He glanced at me and smiled faintly. "I'm fine for now; whether I'll be fine later is another story..."
As he spoke, he leaned against the nearby metal wall. Death Apostle was taken aback by this sight. "What happened? How could this be?!"
At that moment, worried about Li Zhisheng, I turned to Death Apostle and said, "You take care of Yao Long first; I'm going out to check on Li Zhisheng!"
With that, I stepped over the puddles of rotten flesh and shattered bones and ran outside, calling out as I went, "Li Zhisheng! Where are you?"
"Don't come over!" Suddenly, I heard Li Zhisheng's voice from not far away. Following the sound, I saw a blurry figure standing amidst the Blood Mist.
He warned me again in fear, "The Demonic Mark isn't dead yet! Don't come over!"
Just then, a burst of Black Light erupted from within the Blood Mist, and a figure flew out. Seeing that it resembled Li Zhisheng somewhat, I rushed forward to catch him.
"I guess you can't fight right now. Get inside quickly; if Death Apostle and Yao Long are okay, let them come help..." Li Zhisheng gasped for breath as he spoke to me.
I supported him, noticing that both his left hand and left foot were pierced by two blood-stained bones. I frowned and said, "Yao Long is also injured. Now it's just me and Death Apostle who are fine. I'll help you back first and see if there's a way to escape from here directly."
With that, I hoisted Li Zhisheng and started to head back. But after just a couple of steps, a massive tentacle shot out in front of me, spraying blood everywhere, followed by a second and a third...
Tentacles fell like rain from above. Seeing this, Li Zhisheng pushed me away and shouted, "Don't be reckless! None of us will make it back like this! Go get Death Apostle to help!" He stumbled slightly but steadied himself, gathering another Black Sphere in his hand and hurling it toward the monster.
I gritted my teeth and glanced at the mark on my hand before shouting to Li Zhisheng, "Hold on! I'll be right back!" With that, I ran toward the elevator.
When I reached the entrance, I saw Death Apostle had already pulled the bones out of Yao Long and was using his own clothes to bandage him up.
"Death Apostle! Hurry and save Li Zhisheng!" I called out anxiously.
Death Apostle stood up immediately and asked straightforwardly, "Where?!"
I pointed behind me. "Over there! It seems that last attack not only failed to kill it but made the monster even stronger!" Without hesitation, he dashed toward my direction.
In an instant, explosions and crashes erupted all around us while I frantically searched near the elevator for any means of escape.
After several laps around the area, not only did I find no way out, but even the original button at the entrance had vanished. Yao Long leaned against the elevator and noticed my frantic state. He asked me, "Is your friend also injured?"
I replied absentmindedly that he was. He continued, "This battle has turned into this because of my underestimation and recklessness. I... need to make up for my mistakes!" As he spoke, Yao Long gritted his teeth and forced himself to stand despite the pain.
Seeing this, I hurried over to support him. "You're hurt like this; what do you plan to do?!" He turned to me with determination in his eyes and said, "Trust me; I can still fight! Help me with something..."
"No! You can't fight anymore!" I strongly opposed.
"It's fine; just put me outside the elevator. Let me show you my true strength..." Yao Long said with a smirk, revealing a hint of pride.
I was half-convinced but then thought that if he could indeed assist Death Apostle and Li Zhisheng from a safe distance, it might not be such a bad idea.
With that in mind, I helped him outside and let him lean against the elevator door as he sat down.
I looked at the distant Blood Mist, thick and swirling. "With this Blood Mist so dense and the surroundings pitch black, how are you going to aim?"
He placed a hand over his mouth, signaling me to be quiet, then tore a strip of cloth from his clothing and wrapped it around his eyes.
"Watch closely!" He held the bow in one hand while using the other to pull all the arrows from his quiver and lay them across his lap.
He fell silent, seemingly murmuring something under his breath, as if trying to discern the direction of the fierce battle sounds in the distance.
Suddenly, he lifted his head sharply, placing all the arrows on the bowstring. A dazzling blue light shimmered in his hands.
"Die..." he said in a low voice, releasing his grip. In an instant, the arrows glowing with blue light shot forth like a torrential storm into the Blood Mist...
