Hearing the sound, I swung my weapon, Jiang Ling, unleashing several dark Slash Marks that flew toward the source of the shout. The Slash Marks swept through the air with a powerful gust, clearing away the dust and debris in their path.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang, as if the Slash Marks had collided with some Metal Object, causing them to bounce back.
"I did it! I did it!" the Evil Spirit exclaimed, waving its arms to disperse the dust.
At that moment, I saw that the Evil Spirit had completely lost its human form; bones were protruding from its body like spikes, making it resemble a porcupine.
It spotted me standing ahead and suddenly screamed, "Die! Die! Anyone who tries to stop me must die!" It howled as it ripped the bones from its flesh and hurled them at me.
I had no intention of dodging; instead, I smirked as I watched it throw its own bones one by one in my direction.
Due to the Evil Spirit's frenzy, its attacks had lost their accuracy. Many bones crashed against the surrounding walls, instantly creating a disproportionately large hole compared to their size.
The remaining bones that flew toward me couldn't even get close; they were struck down by the lightning surrounding my body, turning to ashes.
"If you have no other tricks up your sleeve, then it's time for you to die," I said calmly before suddenly charging at it.
At that moment, I recalled the child it had killed with its own hands, and a surge of anger ignited within me, causing my body to feel completely out of control.
Getting close to it, I kicked it high into the air and jumped after it.
Standing on the rooftop and watching the Evil Spirit soar straight into the sky, I aimed at its position and swiftly unleashed dozens of Slash Marks before gathering my strength for one final strike.
A massive Slash Mark shot upward like it was going to tear through the sky.
The Evil Spirit stabilized itself quickly in mid-air and drew out a large number of bones, hurling them towards the approaching Slash Mark.
As the bones collided with the Slash Mark, both disintegrated into ashes in an instant.
However, no matter how many bones it threw, the massive Slash Mark could not be stopped and was now almost upon it. To everyone's surprise, the Evil Spirit did not dodge; instead, it reached out its hands to take the hit head-on.
At the moment the Slash Mark made contact with its hands, a surge of black lightning erupted, shattering all the exposed bones on its body. In that instant, the Evil Spirit let out an enraged howl that echoed like thunder across the sky.
"Shen Xuxin, don't let it absorb any more souls!" came the voice of the Death Apostle from below.
I looked down in response to the voice and saw that within the dark purple circle below, countless souls were rushing toward the Evil Spirit like a tidal wave.
But I had no intention of paying attention to those souls. I suddenly elevated my Hatred to its peak, muttering to myself, "A being like this, even if it were a living person, I would personally slay him!" As I spoke, the Black Lightning surrounding me surged uncontrollably, spreading outwards.
In my hand, Jiang Ling had absorbed so much power that the Red Dragon had grown to human size, weaving through the gaps in the Black Lightning.
Then, with my eyes wide open in fury, I focused on the struggling Evil Spirit above me and leaped into the air, flying swiftly beneath it.
At that moment, I hesitated not at all. Gripping Jiang Ling tightly, I slashed through every inch of its flesh with lightning speed.
"Disappear..." I soared over its head and stood above it, flicking away the bloodstains from my blade.
The Evil Spirit had no time to react as countless tendrils of black mist erupted from its body, tearing it into shreds.
Meanwhile, the Slash Mark that had been blocked earlier erupted, shattering the debris that had yet to fall from the sky. A foul, rotting red liquid rained down like droplets from above...
As I watched the falling red liquid, a terrifying thought unexpectedly crossed my mind: "If the evil in this world cannot be completely eradicated, perhaps it would be better to destroy this world and let everything start anew..."
Muttering to myself, a flash of pure white lightning streaked across in front of me, followed by a thunderous roar that echoed through the heavens.
I looked down at the beings below, feeling no stirrings in my heart. "Is death the only way to thoroughly cleanse this world?" I gathered all my power into my sword, its blade bursting forth with black lightning. Even You Long, who hovered around me, showed signs of fear.
Just as I was about to unleash this devastating strike, my body suddenly trembled violently. Looking down, I saw a red arrow embedded in my chest, carrying with it the talisman I had previously given to Death Apostle.
I reached out to pull off the talisman, but it was too late; it gradually vanished as if it had merged with my body. Power drained from me little by little, and I slowly descended from the air to the rooftop of Moutai Building.
As my strength faded, my consciousness began to recover.
"What... what happened to me?" I said in surprise as I looked at my hands.
Li Zhisheng was nearby: "Fortunately, Death Apostle and Yao Long arrived just in time; otherwise, you might have made a grave mistake."
At his words, I turned to see Yao Long, Death Apostle, and Li Zhisheng leaning against the wall. Yao Long tightly gripped the Azure Spirit. Seeing them, I smiled with relief...
At that moment, a drop of cold rain fell on my face. I looked up at the sky and murmured, "Is it raining?" My thoughts swirled; sometimes it felt like human hearts were more terrifying than Evil Spirit.
"Stop being so sentimental and focus on us injured folks," Yao Long's voice pulled me back from my reverie.
After listening, I agreed and walked over to help the three of them up. The four of us stumbled out of the building together.
Standing at the corner, Yao Long said, "Wait, there's something I still need to do." He gestured for me to help him to the security booth.
As we approached the booth, I looked through the window and saw that the two security guards who had been in a daze earlier were now back to normal, taking shelter from the rain inside.
Yao Long stood by the door, tossed the stolen key onto the ground, and knocked on the door.
The guard opened the door, looking somewhat impatient. "What do you want again..." Before he could finish his sentence, he noticed our battered appearance and quickly changed his tone. "What happened to you? How did you get hurt like this? Come in and get out of the rain..." He tried to usher us inside.
Yao Long waved his hand. "Thanks, but we won't go in. We just wanted to let you know that you dropped your key outside..." He pointed at the key by the door.
Seeing it, the guard slapped his forehead. "Oh no, thank you so much! If I lost that key, I'd be in big trouble..." He picked up the key from the ground and looked at us with concern. "But... do you really not need any help?"
Yao Long smiled kindly. "We appreciate your offer, but it's not a bother for us." With that, the four of us turned to leave.
Li Zhisheng gave Yao Long a thumbs up and praised him, saying, "Good man!" He then added somewhat shyly, "It's just a habit. But speaking of which, what do we do now?"
I replied, "We can't reach Hu Fang or Meng Zhuang right now; we can only go to the hotel and look for them."
After hearing this, Yao Long seemed frustrated. "Look at my memory! If only I had borrowed their phone to make a call earlier." He nearly stumbled as he spoke.
I quickly supported him. "Even if we had a phone, it wouldn't help because our phones are all dead. We don't even know their numbers."
Li Zhisheng limped ahead, sighing, "Yeah, in today's society, it's hard to live without a phone."
I didn't respond to him and continued, "Can you all hold on? If not, just wait for me here. I'll go find them."
Yao Long replied with some effort, "It's fine, we can still manage. Let's go..."
As they spoke, the four of us arrived at the hotel where Hu Fang and Meng Zhuang had been placed. As soon as we entered, Meng Zhuang exclaimed, "What happened to you all? How did you get like this in such a short time?"
Hu Fang quickly stepped forward, furrowing her brow as she scrutinized me. I felt a bit embarrassed under her gaze since I wasn't wearing a shirt. She asked urgently, "Are you okay?"
I looked at myself; aside from a not-too-deep arrow wound on my chest, I didn't have any serious injuries. I replied, "I'm fine, but these three are badly hurt. We should take them to the hospital first."
Hearing this, Hu Fang hurriedly took out her phone and dialed for an ambulance.
Moments later, the ambulance arrived and took the three of them to the hospital first. Since there wasn't enough room for all of us, Hu Fang, Meng Zhuang, and I had to take a taxi and follow closely behind.
Upon arriving at the hospital and paying the fees, we learned that they were already receiving treatment. We quickly found their attending physician to inquire about their conditions.
Due to the varying severity of their injuries, each person was assigned to a different ward. Yao Long was in the worst condition; the doctor informed us that he had lost consciousness on the way here and was currently undergoing emergency treatment.
I thought to myself, "This guy is really tough; if it were me, I might have already died by now."
Next was Li Zhisheng; he had a broken leg bone and would need surgery to set it. As for Death Apostle, he only had some internal bruising in his chest cavity. After it was cleared up, he would be fine, but the doctor still needed to monitor him for a few days to prevent any complications.
Afterward, we waited in the hospital for quite some time until Yao Long finally came out of the emergency room, which gave us a slight sense of relief.
In Yao Long's ward, Hu Fang said to me, "The three of them are in three different rooms, and it's very inconvenient to take care of them. Can you talk to the doctor and see if they can be moved to the same room?"
I nodded and replied, "Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I'll go try." With that, I went to discuss it with the doctor.
At first, the doctor disagreed, but after much persuasion on my part, he eventually agreed to my request.
The doctor found us a private room and moved the beds of Yao Long, Li Zhisheng, and Death Apostle into it.
At this point, Yao Long had already fallen asleep, while Li Zhisheng lay on his bed staring blankly at the Flower Board, seemingly lost in thought.
Death Apostle looked at me with a worried expression and said, "Shen Xu, you should go home for a bit. There's something important you need to handle quickly..."
