The sudden change in the Death Apostle's attitude left me somewhat bewildered. "What... happened? Did you suddenly come to a realization?" I asked, feeling confused.
The Death Apostle smiled. "Actually, before this, I always felt that death was terrifying and subconsciously tried to avoid it. However, during this time spent with you all, I've realized that death itself isn't frightening. What is truly scary is the inability to face death and meaningless deaths. Even if I were to die now, it wouldn't be a meaningless death; at least I could be of help to you. I deceived you in the past, and now it's time to repay that..."
After hearing this, I couldn't help but admire how calmly the Death Apostle spoke. I said, "Although it's quite dangerous, I will definitely find a way to ensure your safety. The rest depends on trusting Yao Long because none of us can do it except him."
At that moment, everyone's gaze turned to Yao Long. He clenched his fists and said firmly, "Mr. Death, you saved my life, so I will not let you die."
Seeing that everyone had made up their minds, I didn't say anything more. After laying out two sleeping mats for the Death Apostle and Yao Long in the living room, I let everyone return to their rooms to rest.
I went back to my room and lay on the bed, raising the hand marked with the seal to try and sense the Void Spirit. "It seems like Xie's seal is about to wear off; I should be able to use my abilities soon..." With that thought in mind, I turned over and fell asleep.
The next morning, as dawn broke, I crawled out of bed. When I stepped outside my room, I found that the Death Apostle and Yao Long were already awake; only Haoyang was still asleep on the sofa.
"Why are you up so early?" I quietly asked the Death Apostle and Yao Long standing in the living room.
With the faint morning light streaming in from the balcony, I saw Yao Long smile as he replied, "I woke up two hours ago." The Death Apostle added, "I was woken up by him."
I turned to look at the clock on the wall and noticed it was still a few minutes shy of six o'clock, meaning Yao Long had gotten up around four. "Getting up so early? Are you going ghost hunting?" I asked.
Yao Long replied, "In the past, it was because I was helping Mr. Death with tasks; it became a habit. Once it gets to that time, I can't fall asleep anymore. Waking up early allows me to stretch my muscles since we have something important coming up." With that, he walked over to the balcony and began doing some stretching exercises.
"You all haven't eaten yet, right? I'll go prepare something," I said as I turned to head into the kitchen. The Death Apostle quickly stepped forward and grabbed my arm with a serious expression. "Is what you make similar to Li Zhisheng's?" From his expression, it seemed he had developed a fear of food after Li Zhisheng's cooking.
I laughed and patted his hand resting on my shoulder. "Don't worry; what I make is definitely edible." With that reassurance, I walked into the kitchen alone.
Moments later, I walked out of the kitchen with several sandwiches and called over Yao Long and Death Apostle to have breakfast. My voice was a bit loud, which woke the sleeping Haoyang. He groaned, "Is it bright out?" and turned to look out the window.
At that moment, a warm beam of sunlight fell on him. "Feeling better?" Death Apostle asked Haoyang with concern.
"Much better, but the wound still hurts a bit. Are you all heading out for a mission today?" he inquired.
"Yeah, we're getting ready to leave soon," Death Apostle replied.
"Then I'll help too..." Haoyang started to get up, but Yao Long, who had just returned from the balcony, saw him and quickly pressed him back down. "You’re still injured; don’t move yet."
"But I..." Haoyang tried to protest but was interrupted by Yao Long. "You don’t need to go. I’ll protect Mr. Death; don’t worry."
With that, Yao Long joined Death Apostle and they began eating their sandwiches.
"Wow, Shen Xu's cooking is pretty good! What did you put in these? They taste amazing," Death Apostle praised.
"It’s nothing special, just ordinary sandwiches... Aren’t you going to share some with Haoyang?" After I finished speaking, Yao Long grabbed a sandwich and walked over to Haoyang.
Just then, Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang also came out of their room. Seeing food, they eagerly grabbed some and started munching away.
"When are we leaving?" Hu Fang asked.
I answered while washing the kitchen utensils, "You can leave as soon as you're ready."
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around sharply to find it was Death Apostle. "Why are you acting so suspicious?"
Death Apostle spoke softly, "I need to discuss something with you. If we all leave, what will happen to Haoyang?"
"Are you saying we should leave someone to take care of him?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm worried something might happen, so it's best to leave someone behind. Otherwise, it could be dangerous."
After hearing this, I thought for a moment. "If we leave Hu Fang here, she definitely won't want to stay, and she wouldn't be able to protect Haoyang anyway..." I continued, "How about we let Li Zhisheng stay? At least he can handle things if something happens."
"But if that's the case, it will just be you and me in the open, while Yao Long stays hidden to draw them out. But right now, your Void Spirit is still sealed, isn't it..."
Hearing Death Apostle's concern, I realized he might be worried that I couldn't use my abilities and would be in danger alongside him. "I tried last night, and it seems like I can sense the Void Spirit. The seal is almost gone, so you don't need to worry." Upon hearing this, Death Apostle seemed somewhat reassured and turned to leave.
After breakfast, I left Li Zhisheng alone to watch over Haoyang. The four of us—Yao Long, Death Apostle, Hu Fang, and I—set off for the amusement park.
On the way, we were particularly cautious, always on the lookout for anyone following us. However, by the time we reached the entrance of the amusement park, I hadn't noticed any signs of being followed.
"Could it be that they've seen through our plan? Are they not going to monitor our movements anymore?" I whispered at the entrance.
"No, actually we've been watched since the moment we stepped out; they just hid themselves very well," Yao Long replied expressionlessly.
"Are you sure?" I asked for confirmation. He nodded in agreement. Seeing that Yang Master's people had taken the bait, we bought tickets and entered the amusement park.
As soon as we stepped inside, we found long lines at every ride's entrance, with crowds bustling everywhere. People wore joyful expressions on their faces, while the three of us looked grim, creating a stark contrast with those around us.
"Come on, you're at an amusement park! Try to have some fun instead of looking so gloomy..." Hu Fang said as she darted over to my side.
Hearing Hu Fang say this made me think for a moment. "You're right; there are so many people here. Even if they notice us, they can't act against us. It’s better to enjoy ourselves a bit; otherwise, it would be too obvious."
"Exactly! If we keep wandering around looking so serious, it would be even more suspicious. Let's lighten up and have some fun!" I said as I pushed Yao Long and Death Apostle from behind, encouraging them to join in on the fun.
At that moment, Yao Long seemed to realize something. He leaned in and whispered something to Death Apostle before turning to leave on his own.
I was a bit puzzled and approached Death Apostle to ask what was going on. "He just told me he needs to step away for a bit. He'll contact us later. I don't really know what's up with him."
Hearing this, I thought he might have noticed something unusual or felt it was better not to stay with us at that moment.
Before I could say anything, Hu Fang pointed at a distant roller coaster. "I want to go ride that! Come with me!"
I followed her gaze and saw a speeding train racing along the towering steel tracks, the shouts and screams of the passengers echoing in the air.
"I'm fine with it. Death Apostle, can you handle it?" I looked over at Death Apostle, who was staring blankly at the roller coaster. "What? You've never been on one?"
Death Apostle swallowed hard. "I've actually never ridden one because I had a bad experience when a park train derailed, so I've been scared of these kinds of rides ever since..."
Before he could finish, I laughed at him. "You're not afraid of ghosts but scared of this? A train derailing is nothing... Come on, if you don't ride, you're not a man." With that, Hu Fang and I headed toward the ticket booth. I thought to myself, "If someone really wanted to harm Death Apostle, it would be harder to do so on a fast-moving roller coaster."
Before long, the three of us had bought our tickets and were seated on the roller coaster. Hu Fang and I sat in the front while Death Apostle sat alone in the back.
"Um... this really won't derail, right?" Death Apostle asked nervously from behind.
"Don't worry! When you bought your ticket, you also got insurance. Even if it derails, you won't lose any money—no need to be scared!"
As soon as Death Apostle heard this, he considered getting off, but by then the train had already started moving. "If it's this dangerous, you should have said so earlier! Dying up here would be such a waste!" he shouted in panic from behind.
I teased him, "Look at Hu Fang; she's not scared at all! What are you afraid of as a grown man?"
Hu Fang turned her head to look at me and said, "Who said I'm not scared? I'm scared!"
"I'm afraid you still have to sit; aren't you just putting me in danger..." Before I could finish my sentence, the train had already climbed to its highest point. A gust of wind rushed in as the train plummeted down from that peak, and I could hear shouts coming from behind.
At that moment, my mind was far from enjoying the roller coaster; instead, I was scanning my surroundings, constantly alert for any potential danger.
However, the speed of the roller coaster was too fast to clearly see anything around me. Just as I was feeling anxious, I suddenly sensed a strong wave of Killing Intent ahead, a chilling aura that surpassed even the thrill of the ride.
As the train entered a straight section, I caught a glimpse of a glint ahead—a shiny Metal Object flying directly toward me. It sparkled under the sunlight, blinding me with its silver glare.
In an instant, before I could react, that gleaming Metal Object was already close to my face.
Just as it was about to collide with my forehead, a red dot suddenly zipped past from the side. With a loud clang, it knocked the Metal Object away from right in front of me...
