Hearing the shout of "Death Apostle," Yao Long raised the Azure Spirit in his hand, unhesitatingly nocking several arrows and shooting them into the cloud of dust.
At the moment the arrows struck, a roar erupted from within the dust, scattering the particles in all directions. As the smoke cleared, I saw a figure standing amidst the dissipating dust, surrounded by seven fallen corpses. All the arrows shot by Yao Long were clenched in that person's hand. Suddenly, he exerted force, and with a crunch, he crushed the arrows, tossing them aside.
"This is bad; those seven have gathered all the Void Spirits into one person..." Death Apostle exclaimed as he stepped back. But Yao Long showed no fear; instead of using more arrows, he pulled back the Azure Spirit from thin air.
In an instant, I saw the veins on his hand bulging as blood flowed from his body into the Azure Spirit, clearly visible as it surged along with his pulse.
After absorbing a significant amount of blood, a bloody red arrow formed on the bowstring, flickering ominously. At the same time, the blue flames that had been clinging to the bow began to swirl around the arrow, resembling a dragon intertwined in red and blue.
Yao Long aimed the arrowhead at the figure before him, who was radiating an unusual red glow due to an excess of Void Spirits. "Let's see if you can take this shot!" Yao Long declared fiercely as he suddenly released his grip on the bowstring. Under the mingling light of red and blue, the arrow flew straight toward that person.
Although that individual had long lost any emotions and knew no fear, the Void Spirits within him sensed the power of this arrow. He prepared to dodge, intending to evade this strike. However, unexpectedly, a burst of blue light erupted from the arrow mid-flight; the blue flames expanded rapidly and increased its speed.
With a whoosh, the arrow embedded itself deep into his chest. He froze for a moment, and before he could react, a surge of blue flames erupted from where the arrow had struck, engulfing his body in an instant.
The man fell to the ground, howling in agony. At that moment, I noticed a red mist emerging from him; it seemed that the Void Spirits within him were attempting to escape. But alas, the blue flames were too fierce; as soon as they appeared, they were consumed by the blue fire and vanished completely.
In moments, both his body and the Void Spirits were reduced to ashes by the flames.
"Is that all there is? Feel free to try something else..." Yao Long said confidently while making a provocative gesture toward Death Apostle's former subordinates.
Seeing him getting overly confident, I whispered to him, "Have you forgotten that he can block your arrows? Don't get too cocky..."
He slightly raised an eyebrow with a smirk. "It's fine; you’re here too. I've seen your Void Spirit's power before; if you use your full strength, he won't stand a chance."
It seemed Yao Long still wanted me to unleash Hatred. I shot him a glare. "Have you forgotten? I can't use my full power without Xie suppressing my Void Spirit's rampage; everyone here would die!"
Upon hearing this, Yao Long waved his hand dismissively. "No, that's not what I meant. I’m talking about your current Void Spirit's power; it should be enough to deal with him now. You just need to let your Void Spirit out to fight..."
Before Yao Long could finish speaking, that figure across from us grew impatient and shouted, "Are you done discussing your plans? I'm not going to wait any longer! Come out!"
With that person's shout, a group of men dressed in Amusement Park staff uniforms suddenly jumped out from around us, surrounding us completely with at least twenty or thirty of them. Each of them was wielding flames of red fire in their hands.
Seeing this scene, I suddenly realized that this amusement park had been built by Yang Master’s people. From the very beginning, we had fallen into their trap. No wonder we were suddenly rescued when we encountered the Ghost Wall; it seemed they were behind it all.
However, thinking further, we didn’t need to eliminate all of them. We just had to cooperate with the Death Apostle to put on a show and escape. But how were we going to perform this act?
At that moment, Yao Long seemed to have come up with an idea as well. He whispered, “It looks like we need to work with Mr. Death to stage a performance, trying to draw the attacks towards him so he can get hit.”
I pondered for a moment and replied, “No way. These lackeys seem to be using Soul Threads. If they touch the Lingxi, they will be drawn away. Plus, the Death Apostle doesn’t have Void Spirit right now; if he gets touched even once, his soul would vanish in an instant.”
“Forget it; let’s take it one step at a time!” Yao Long frowned tightly, drawing his bow and aiming at the Undead charging toward us.
I couldn’t afford to slack off either. I rushed over to the Death Apostle’s side and swiftly severed the Soul Threads that were about to reach him. Then, with lightning speed, I chopped several nearby Undead into pieces.
Although this action gave me a brief moment of respite, the chunks I had sliced apart began to connect with each other like before with the Demon Sorcerer. Eventually, several bodies pieced together into a robust Flesh Monster.
The monster didn’t attack me directly but instead unleashed a massive wave of Soul Threads from its body toward me and the Death Apostle, attempting to envelop us and absorb our souls.
Seeing this, I quickly grabbed the Death Apostle and jumped back several steps to evade the attack. As soon as I steadied myself, I released him and raised my hand to unleash several strikes. Dark Slash Marks flew toward the mass of Soul Threads, slicing through them all in an instant.
Before I could catch my breath, the monster launched another wave of Soul Threads at me.
Back and forth like this not only drained my strength but also significantly exhausted Yao Long’s power. At this point, I retreated beside Yao Long and gasped for air, saying, “This isn’t going to work; our strength will eventually be depleted…”
While fending off the incessant Soul Threads with his shots, Yao Long replied, “Yeah, I’ve run out of arrows long ago; now I'm using Blood Arrows. I won’t last much longer before I run out of energy.”
Observing our battle from nearby, the Death Apostle said, “I have a plan!”
“What plan?!” Yao Long and I asked in unison.
“Yao Long, can you still shoot arrows that can burn them?”
Upon hearing this, Yao Long replied, "I should still be able to use it one last time, but that attack was incredibly draining. Even in the best condition, I can only use it three times. Now... I'll do my best."
Death Apostle nodded and then said to me, "Shen Xu, find a way to cut down all these Undead and let them form one single entity. Then let Yao Long burn them to ashes!" Realizing what needed to be done, I nodded in understanding.
I quickly gathered some of my strength in my legs and then sprinted forward. With swift movements of my blade, I soon turned the surrounding Undead into piles of corpses.
Looking at the ground covered in shattered remains, Yao Long took a deep breath and slowly closed his eyes, as if he intended to channel all his power into this one strike.
As he concentrated his energy, the corpses on the ground began to merge together, gradually forming a monstrous figure about two or three people tall, standing before us like a wall of flesh.
At that moment, Yao Long's Azure Spirit no longer glowed with blue flames; instead, the arrow in his hand shone with an even more dazzling light than before.
The monster before us sensed the light in Yao Long's hand and realized the danger. It attempted to block him with Soul Threads. Seeing this, I decided to cut down those Soul Threads first to buy Yao Long more time.
However, just then, Yao Long suddenly opened his eyes wide and shouted at me, "No need!" He then released the bowstring with a swift motion, and the arrow shot forth with a whoosh.
"You want to try again? I won't let you succeed!" As he spoke, a gust of wind rushed in, and in an instant, we heard a loud bang as the arrow charged with Yao Long's remaining power was shattered by a wave of green light.
The three of us were taken aback; we had completely lost our means to deal with this monster. "I've watched enough of this show; it's time for me to understand you," Death Apostle's former subordinate charged towards us.
Seeing this, I stepped forward to block the Soul Threads aimed at Yao Long and then swung at Death Apostle's former subordinate in an attempt to hinder him.
As my Slash Mark approached him, he raised his hand and effortlessly blocked it. A chill ran down my spine as I thought, "Could it be true what Yao Long said? Do I really need to let Void Spirit out to fight?"
At that moment, Void Spirit within me picked up on my thoughts and said, "Do you have any other options? It's been a while since I've had a workout; I should stretch my muscles. Ever since that battle with Demon Sorcerer, I've been cooped up. Time for a change..."
Though I was extremely reluctant, given the current situation, I had no choice but to agree.
The moment I consented, I felt an immense surge of power within me as if I were being reborn. A wave of black mist erupted around me, forming a ring at my feet that rapidly expanded outward, sending the flesh-and-blood monster flying and colliding directly with Death Apostle's former subordinate.
Caught off guard by the sudden impact, he appeared somewhat irritated: "You still had some tricks up your sleeve; looks like you still have some strength left."
At that moment, the Void Spirit within me said to him, "Spare power? Let me be direct with you; the energy I just expended was barely a fraction of my strength. Are you ready to feel true fear?!"
As the Void Spirit spoke, I felt that the voice was no longer my own, as if it belonged to someone else entirely. The person across from me was taken aback as well. Although he sensed something was off about me, he still forced himself to suppress his terror and retorted, "Stop with the bravado; if you have the ability, come and try it!"
With that, he leaped into the air, merging the crimson and azure energies of the Void Spirit together. The intertwining flames enveloped him instantly as he roared and charged at me with a fierce gust of wind.
However, the Void Spirit had no intention of even acknowledging such an attack. It simply waved its hand and unleashed a Slash Mark. I could feel that this strike was worlds apart from the Slash Mark I had executed; it was almost on par with the power of Hatred.
Seeing that he couldn't dodge in time, he instinctively raised his hands to block, but he never expected this blow to be so powerful that it severed his arms cleanly.
Witnessing this, I thought to myself, "This is bad; if this continues, he will be killed by the Void Spirit... then what meaning does our journey hold..."
The Void Spirit sensed my thoughts and mocked me, saying, "Meaning? If I don't intervene, you'll all die! What are you even thinking about meaning right now?!"
