Upon witnessing the scene, not only I but even the Death Apostle was taken aback. Yao Long's strength was no small matter, yet the Boss easily brushed aside Yao Long's hand.
At that moment, I realized that Yao Long was definitely no match for him. I thought about stopping Yao Long from continuing his reckless actions, but I was a step too late. Yao Long pulled out the Azure Spirit from his backpack, instantly drawing the bow and aiming it at the grocery store Boss.
"I warn you, don't try anything funny. Hand over the person, or else..." Before Yao Long could finish, the Boss swiftly stepped forward, closing the distance to Yao Long in an instant, a stark contrast to his earlier staggering demeanor.
Yao Long stiffened, and the Azure Spirit in his hand trembled slightly. However, he reacted quickly and tried to retreat. But the Boss seized Yao Long's clothing and yanked him forward. The force nearly caused Yao Long to fall. Taking advantage of this, the Boss grabbed Yao Long's hand that held the Azure Spirit and twisted his wrist, causing the weapon to drop from his grasp.
The Boss released Yao Long and effortlessly caught the Azure Spirit, smiling as he looked at me and the astonished Death Apostle. He tossed the Azure Spirit to us, saying, "Your friend is too impulsive; you can take care of his weapon."
Everything happened so fast that I barely had time to react. When the Boss threw the Azure Spirit to me, I fumbled to catch it. To passersby, it seemed as if the Boss had merely bumped into Yao Long.
"Who are you?! How do you possess such skills?!" I asked in astonishment.
The Boss didn't respond; he simply waved at me and then placed his hands behind his back as he walked into the store with a staggered gait. I thought to myself, "Could he be a reclusive master?" At that moment, Yao Long snapped out of his shock and approached me, saying, "Xin, this person is definitely not ordinary..."
I handed him back the bow. "I can see that without your help. For now, let's follow him and see what he intends to do..." As I spoke, the four of us followed the Boss into the shop.
Inside the store, it was dim due to insufficient lighting. We navigated around shelves of goods and entered through a side door into the store's interior.
Once inside, we found ourselves in what resembled a storage room for a shop; however, it had been cleared out. A few light bulbs hung from ropes on the ceiling, illuminating the space much better than outside. In the center of the room were several wooden tables pushed together to form something like a bed, where Hu Fang lay flat on top, seemingly still unconscious.
"Is this the person you are looking for?" The Boss pointed at Hu Fang and asked.
Seeing Hu Fang lying there motionless, I couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions and walked over to check on her condition.
The boss raised his hand to stop me, saying, "Don't rush. She's temporarily fine, but she could be in danger at any moment..."
"What did you do to her?" I asked, my voice filled with agitation.
"Calm down. It's not my fault that she's in this state. There's more to this situation than you know. I brought you all here for a reason..." The boss then explained the entire situation to us.
It turned out he was the Feng Shui Master who had come here before to change the feng shui for a wealthy merchant. After making the adjustments as requested, he sensed something was off and decided to stay behind to investigate. Little did he know that this would lead him deeper into trouble over the course of many years, ultimately trapping him here.
After he briefly shared his background, I pressed on, "What does all of this have to do with my friend? Why is she in a coma, and why did you bring us here?"
The boss smiled faintly. "Perhaps it's all just a matter of coincidence... Initially, I sent my daughter and wife out to find people like you who possess the Void Spirit, but I never heard back from them. It wasn't until recently, after my wife's passing, that my daughter sent me a letter saying she had found someone and that they would arrive soon... But when I tried to ask her for more details, she never replied again. I haven't been able to contact her for months..." His gaze dimmed as he spoke.
"I knew something must have happened to her, so I couldn't afford to wait any longer... To be frank with you, my life is running out. I had no choice but to resort to this desperate measure and bring you here. Your friend has been taken by a strange spirit from this town; while she's not in immediate danger, her body is weak and vulnerable to any demons or evil beings that might take advantage of her state. That's why I brought her here..."
Though I still felt somewhat confused, I at least grasped the general idea of what was happening. Just as I had sensed upon arriving in this town, it seemed everything was indeed orchestrated by someone.
Despite my lingering doubts, I had no choice but to trust him at this moment. So I asked, "What exactly is this strange spirit? What does it want with us?"
The boss pondered for a moment before answering, "I call it a spirit, but it's not truly one; I'm not sure what it really is... It resembles a ghost, moving like a shadow—silent and elusive. It continuously steals the souls of the living and absorbs them to enhance its own power. As it gathers more souls, more of these shadowy spirits appear in the town."
"Moreover, as its power grows stronger, the townspeople have begun suffering from a peculiar illness. You should already be aware of this illness without me elaborating further. As for how many people in the town are afflicted... I can assure you it's everyone..."
Hearing this, I was taken aback. "Are all the people in the town infected? Then why haven't I shown any symptoms?" I asked, confused.
The boss replied, "Since you have witnessed this disease firsthand, you should understand that it causes a disparity between one's thoughts and actual actions. In other words, if you think of something beautiful, the reality will inevitably be cruel and painful, and vice versa."
"The reason most people here continue to live and work normally is that they were once wicked individuals. So when they fall ill, they are not greatly affected..." He sighed and continued, "Thus, in this world, there are no absolute definitions of good and evil, right and wrong. Without good people, you will perceive these bad people as ordinary."
"As for why I called you here, it's because I cannot eliminate the Vengeful Spirits on my own. I need more people like you to help me..." At this point, his voice choked with emotion. "Although this is something I brought upon myself, I have already paid a heavy price. Now, I have only one request: please help me..." Tears streamed down his face as he knelt before us with a thud.
