I had no idea how long I had been asleep. All I knew was that my back was pressed against the armrest of the bench for too long, and a wave of soreness pulled me back from my dreams. As soon as I opened my eyes, I heard Yao Long softly say to me, "I was just talking to you. How could you fall asleep? That's quite disrespectful..."
Upon hearing this, I quickly apologized, "I'm really sorry. I was exhausted last night and must have dozed off without realizing it. What were you trying to tell me?"
"I was thinking that Gu Kai has saved your life twice now, but why hasn't he told you the truth about everything? But now that I think about it, if he wanted to, we wouldn't be left guessing like this, so asking seems pointless. Other than that, I just wanted to know what kind of people Yang Master has sent out..." Yao Long continued.
I recalled what little I knew. "I'm not very clear on the details either. I only know that the leader seems to be called Yang Feng, and he had three dragons on his staff. But he's already dead now."
When Yao Long heard the name, a look of surprise crossed his face. He raised his voice slightly, "How do you know that person's name is Yang Feng?"
"I heard it from Gu Kai," I replied nonchalantly, then turned to glance at Hu Fang, who was still sound asleep beside us. She seemed a bit tired too, leaning slightly against the armrest of the bench as she slept peacefully. Her long black hair cascaded down her cheek to her lips, making her look somewhat enchanting.
Worried she might catch a chill, I took off my jacket. Although it was a bit dirty and worn, it would at least provide some warmth. I gently draped it over Hu Fang's shoulders and then stood up to pull Yao Long aside so as not to disturb her rest.
Once we were a bit away, I asked Yao Long, "Why are you asking about this? Do you know this person?"
Yao Long replied, "I can't say I know him well. This person has quite a reputation within Yang Master; many people in the lower ranks fear him because he is tyrannical and ruthless. If anyone disobeys his orders, he acts immediately—injuries can range from broken bones to paralysis or even death. In short, his strength is considerable; he can barely be considered average within Yang Master. If Gu Kai hadn't intervened to save you, it's likely that both you and Hu Fang wouldn't have made it back..."
Hearing this made my heart tighten. I thought to myself, "If someone with such power requires forty percent of Void Spirit's strength just to have a chance at winning and is only considered average in Yang Master, how many formidable individuals are gathered in this so-called Yang Master?"
Seeing my furrowed brow, Yao Long explained further, "This is just what I've heard from others in the organization. I've only met him once; I'm not particularly clear on what kind of person he is. The important thing is that you both are safe..."
Before he finished speaking, Yao Long added, "Anyway, next time we encounter someone from Yang Master, we should be cautious. If we can avoid confrontation, we should try our best to do so since they are numerous. I'm not sure about the strength of those at higher levels."
"Okay, got it..." I replied, "I'll go check if Li Zhisheng and the Death Apostle are awake..." With that, I turned back with Yao Long.
Just a few steps after turning around, I saw Hu Fang had already woken up from the bench. She looked at her clothes and, noticing that Yao Long and I were missing, quickly got up and scanned the area. It was only then that she spotted us standing at the other end of the corridor.
Seeing me, she walked over and handed my clothes back to me. "What do you want for breakfast? I'll go buy it for you," she offered. I thought for a moment and replied, "Something light, nothing too greasy." Yao Long simply said, "Anything is fine; I'm not picky." After thanking Hu Fang, we watched her bounce toward the elevator. For some reason, she seemed particularly cheerful at that moment.
Yao Long and I returned to the hospital room, where Li Zhisheng and the Death Apostle were already awake. The Death Apostle was standing by the window, peering down anxiously. He turned to Li Zhisheng, who was lying on the bed, and said, "Why haven't they come back yet? What if something happened? Where did Yao Long go?"
Li Zhisheng had already seen me and Yao Long enter. He smiled at the Death Apostle and said, "They're right behind you..."
Upon hearing this, the Death Apostle quickly turned around. When he saw me, his brow furrowed. He glanced at my blood-stained clothes and asked urgently, "You don't look too good. Did something happen?!"
"It's nothing serious; Gu Kai helped me out along the way, which is why I managed to escape danger..." I then recounted the events to them again. The Death Apostle's reaction was similar to Yao Long's; both were puzzled about that person named Yang Feng and why Gu Kai chose to help me.
Unfortunately, I had no idea why Gu Kai helped me either. This was exactly what I wanted to know. Even Li Zhisheng kept pressing for details about Gu Kai, but I knew almost nothing about him—only his appearance and that dark green sword he wielded.
Eventually, feeling a bit impatient from all the questioning, I shifted the topic. "Now that the stone tablet has been destroyed, have you noticed any changes in your bodies?"
Everyone fell silent at my question as they began to feel for any changes within themselves. After a moment, they all shook their heads in response. "Nope, nothing feels different. Are we being played with?"
I thought for a moment before replying, "That shouldn't be the case. Maybe it's because we were cursed not long ago; our bodies haven't changed yet, so we can't feel anything. But now that the stone tablet is shattered, at least we can feel a bit more at ease."
As soon as I finished speaking, Hu Fang returned from outside the room carrying two bags. She walked in and immediately opened the large plastic bag in her right hand, distributing the packed food inside to everyone.
At that moment, I caught a whiff of something; she had bought the local specialty—Roasted Elk Nose. I thought to myself, didn't I ask you to get something light? Why is it so greasy?
Even though I felt this way, the enticing aroma made my mouth water uncontrollably. "Hu Fang, didn't I say I wanted something light?" I smiled as I approached her. I expected her to have bought something light because she wanted to eat this, but to my surprise, she handed me what was in her left hand and said, "Of course, it's light; this is just for you."
I took what she handed me and opened it to find just a box of cabbage soup. "Hey, this isn't right! You all are eating meat while I'm stuck with vegetables..." I looked around and saw everyone devouring their Roasted Elk Nose, making my mouth water even more. Li Zhisheng, standing nearby, teased me, saying, "Look at you, all covered in wounds; eating such heavy food isn't good for your recovery. You should stick to something lighter."
Hearing this, I shot him a glance while holding the cabbage soup in my hands and retorted, "Who are you to tell me what to eat?!" At my words, everyone burst into laughter...
In the days that followed, we lived relatively easy lives without any events that made us feel fear or anxiety. We stayed in the hospital until Li Zhisheng fully recovered...
