"There's no other choice? Do I really have to break the seal on Onizuka?" I asked anxiously.
"Wait a moment..." Li Yu turned around and began searching through the wooden, antiquated bookshelves. After a moment, he held up a yellowed and tattered ancient book. "Take a look at this..."
I took the book from him carefully. It was bound with thread, and many of the binding threads had already broken. The fragile pages seemed ready to fall apart at any moment.
I gingerly opened a page, only to find that it was filled with ancient characters I couldn't recognize. I couldn't even tell which were letters and which were illustrations. To me, it was like looking at a foreign language.
"Li Bo... I can't understand this at all. Why don't you just tell me what it says?" I carefully handed the book back to Li Yu.
But Li Yu didn't take the book back. Instead, he flipped to the back and pointed at a pattern on the page. "Look, isn't this the mark on your chest?"
I looked down and saw that indeed, there was an illustration of the Nine Stars on the page. There were two representations of the Nine Stars—one above and one below—facing in opposite directions. Below these two diagrams stood numerous figures resembling humans, drawn in a hasty manner that made them hard to discern.
Seeing my confusion, Li Yu explained, "The Nine Stars above represent life and death. Now look at those human-like figures below; they appear to be in great distress, as if they are afraid of something. From this, I deduce that the Nine Stars seem to bring disaster upon people, but this is just my speculation..."
Upon hearing this, I felt that those hastily drawn figures indeed expressed extreme fear, as if they were fleeing in all directions. However, they looked less like humans and more like a group of fleeing Evil Spirits.
After contemplating this, I said to Li Yu, "If those figures below represent people, then your theory that the Nine Stars bring calamity might hold some truth. But have you considered that these figures could actually be Evil Spirits? In other words, perhaps the Nine Stars might drive away evil."
To my surprise, Li Yu laughed at my suggestion. "If we were only looking at the images, your interpretation could work. But the problem lies in those texts. What’s written above refers to the power sealed by the Nine Stars and mentions that disaster will surely follow when they appear. Although this is just part of all the information available, this book details that this power is evil and invincible; it must be sealed away permanently. Thus, I speculate that our ancestors had no choice but to seal it in this manner because they couldn't completely eliminate it."
At this point, Li Yu frowned and stroked his beard thoughtfully, worry etched on his face. After pondering for a moment without giving an answer, I asked him directly, "So you mean that if we break Onizuka's seal, we might inadvertently release that terrifying power within? That's why you hope I won't break Onizuka?"
Li Yu pondered for a moment and said, "Didn’t Li Zhi Sheng just tell you about your situation? He mentioned a Sheepskin Book that you used, something I have never heard of before. It seems to possess the power to eliminate souls. Judging by its function, it is likely crafted by the predecessors of the Yang Master, possibly intended to suppress those spirits. Yet, by chance, you have come into possession of it; it might just be the key to completely eradicating that terrifying force. Moreover, there seem to be three Boxes, and you only have two of them. Have you found the Third Box? Perhaps when you possess the Third Box, you could turn the situation around."
Upon hearing him mention the Third Box, I couldn't help but feel troubled because it was very likely that the Box was currently with the Yang Master. With my current strength, trying to find someone from the Yang Master, whether by stealing or robbing, would undoubtedly be a path to self-destruction.
"I do know where the Third Box is, but I can't possibly get it..."
Seeing my dilemma, Li Yu said, "Since you know where the Box is, what difficulty are you facing? You can tell me; perhaps I can lend you a hand."
"With all due respect, the Box is in the hands of those from the Yang Master."
Upon hearing me mention the Yang Master, Li Yu's expression grew serious again. He said, "I heard from Li Zhi Sheng that you've had several encounters with people from the Yang Master and nearly lost your lives each time. You were saved by someone named Gu Kai... Actually, I've heard a bit about this Gu Kai. However, the changes within the Yang Master in recent years are truly astonishing; trying to take something from them is no easy task."
After listening to him, I thought to myself, "Isn't that obvious? I know how difficult it is to deal with the Yang Master; I've nearly died at their hands twice. If I had a plan, I wouldn't need to tell you."
Thinking this way, I kept my thoughts to myself because I had heard from an old woman back in Meng Zhuang's hometown that the Yin Master had not involved himself in worldly affairs for many years. Unless absolutely necessary, it seemed unlikely that he would intervene against the Yang Master again.
"Since you can't handle them on your own, have you considered seeking help from Gu Kai? If he is willing to assist you, obtaining the Third Box shouldn't be too difficult."
I responded, "Actually, I have thought about it; it's just that Gu Kai's whereabouts are unpredictable. I have no idea where he might be. He always finds me first; whenever I try to find him, it's like climbing a mountain."
Upon hearing this, Li Yu fell into deep thought. He placed his left hand behind his back and stroked his beard with his right hand as he paced back and forth in the room.
At that moment, upstairs Li Zhisheng noticed our prolonged silence and grew somewhat worried. Cautiously calling down from above, he asked, "Father, are you done? Is everything alright?"
Li Yu coughed lightly and straightened his posture. "Hmm, it's nothing. You can come down now..."
Seeing this scene, I finally understood that Li Yu was a strict father. He always displayed a stern demeanor in front of Li Zhisheng, only showing his true emotions when Li Zhisheng was not around.
Li Zhisheng heard him and carefully walked down the stairs. When he reached my side, he patted me gently and asked in a low voice, "Are you okay?"
After examining me from head to toe and seeing that I was unharmed, he finally relaxed. Noticing the worried expression on Li Zhisheng's face, I smiled, wanting to engage him in conversation; his father was quite talkative. But before I could speak, Li Yu took the lead, his deep and powerful voice resonating, "If it comes to it, I can step in to help you..."
