Hearing Li Zhisheng refer to him as "Dad" took me by surprise. I thought to myself, "Li Yu might just explode with rage now..."
To my astonishment, Li Yu not only remained calm but also retracted the power of the Void Spirit. He moved closer to Li Zhisheng and patted him on the shoulder. "Son, don't worry. I won't kill your friend. I just wanted to test whether he truly possesses the Void God within him."
"What?! Just a test?! I thought he was using all his strength!" I was shocked. The Void Spirit, having overheard my thoughts, said, "He was only using half of his power just now. If he had gone all out, I would have been killed in an instant." The voice of the Void Spirit trembled slightly, and my body began to shake as well.
The Void Spirit, having suffered significant damage, fell into a state of slumber. Once I regained control of my body, I stood up and faced Li Yu. "You see? I'm no match for you at all." As I spoke, I felt a heaviness in my body and instinctively leaned forward.
Li Zhisheng turned around and quickly supported me. "Dad, you were too harsh! That wasn't a test; it was clearly an attempt to kill him!"
At that moment, Li Yu's expression softened from the initial gloominess he had shown upon their first meeting. He smiled and said, "Your friend saved you. Out of both reason and emotion, I won't kill him. Even though I'm a Yin Master, I'm not cold-blooded enough to go that far."
Hearing this made me think that perhaps this Yin Master was more like a true Yang Master. With that thought in mind, I addressed Li Yu. "Li Bo, there's something I'd like to say, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate..."
Li Yu replied readily, "Feel free to speak your mind."
"It is said that Yang Masters help the weak and aid the needy, yet now they seem to be doing nothing but harm. Meanwhile, Yin Masters are rumored to be solely focused on causing destruction. Meeting you today has completely changed my perception of Yin Masters..."
"I see," Li Yu said without hesitation. "To be honest with you, Yin Masters did indeed focus on causing harm in earlier years. However, we have our own principles. The Yang Masters will stop at nothing to achieve their goals and even tried to use our name for their destructive deeds. Left with no choice, we had to withdraw from those matters entirely. Including myself, four Yin Master families decided not to interfere anymore... but..."
At this point, Li Yu paused thoughtfully as if there were deeper issues at play. Not wanting to press further given his serious demeanor, I silently waited alongside Li Zhisheng.
After a moment's reflection, Li Yu sighed deeply. "As the Yang Masters grew stronger, their ambitions expanded as well. They systematically eliminated the other three families besides mine. I had no choice but to hide away in places like this... but my wife..."
Tears welled up in Li Yu's eyes suddenly as his expression turned grave again. "I once thought I could live out my life quietly like this, but now that you've appeared, perhaps it's time to put an end to all of this."
Now I understood; there was another reason behind his promise to help. At that moment, I couldn't help but feel sympathy for Li Zhisheng's background. For a moment, not only I, but even Li Zhisheng beside me was left speechless.
"You all go ahead with your business. When the time is right, I'll have Li Zhisheng notify you..." Li Yu waved us off, signaling us to leave first.
Seeing this, I wanted to ask Li Zhisheng to stay, but he shook his head and whispered in my ear, "I think it's best to let him be alone for now. I'll come back to see him later."
Hearing this, I could only nod and left with Li Zhisheng from his house...
Standing outside the door, I asked Li Zhisheng, "Do you know about your mother?"
Li Zhisheng shook his head. "I haven't seen my mother since I can remember. I've only heard that she died during childbirth, but my father never told me the truth. Just now..."
He choked up for a moment. "Do you have a cigarette?" he asked me.
When he asked for a cigarette, I hurriedly searched my pockets but found nothing. Then I noticed a nearby convenience store with its door open. "Wait here for me; I'll go buy some..."
With that, I ran to the store and bought a pack of cigarettes. I handed the cigarettes to Li Zhisheng, who clumsily opened the package and almost tore the entire cigarette case apart.
He took one out, and I helped him light it while lighting one for myself as well. Since Li Zhisheng had never smoked before and took too big of a puff on his first try, he started coughing uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face. Between coughs and sniffles, he said, "I finally understand why they write that smoking is harmful to health on the cigarette case..."
Seeing him in such a state made me unable to hold back a laugh. However, since I still had smoke in my mouth, I ended up coughing too.
Li Zhisheng saw me and sarcastically remarked, "Look who's laughing at me now..." He then burst into laughter himself.
And so we stood there like two fools on the roadside, coughing violently while laughing...
After a moment, we finally calmed down. He looked at me and said, "Thank you, I'm feeling much better now..."
Seeing his mood improve, I replied, "That blow from your dad almost drained all the power of the Void Spirit from me, which is why I'm running low on energy now... Shouldn't we get back to business?" As I spoke, I rolled up my sleeves and noticed that the mark had once again spread to my shoulder.
Noticing this, Li Zhisheng asked, "Can you still hold on? If possible, we should go to the Cemetery again. If not, we can head home first and plan after some rest."
Hearing him say this made my body feel heavy, as if I was sinking downwards. "I don't think I can manage it. Let's head back for now; it's still daytime and not convenient to move around. We can try again tonight..."
With that, Li Zhisheng and I walked a short distance before finally managing to catch a taxi in the suburbs. Throughout the ride, both of us were lost in our thoughts, silently gazing out the window without saying a word.
After a long while, we returned home. As soon as we stepped inside, Hu Fang shouted from the sofa, "I heard you went to the Cemetery! You scared me! There was just a news report about a murder; apparently someone was dismembered in a Cemetery!"
Upon hearing this, I felt a chill run down my spine. "That old man and the security guard weren't lying; a murder really did happen at that Cemetery!"
