"I heard that," Hu Fang began without waiting for me to ask, "When I woke up this morning and saw you were gone, I went to ask Yao Long and Death Apostle. They mentioned you were off to the Cemetery for something. Then I saw the news on TV. After that, I tried calling you, but no one answered. I thought something might have happened to you."
"That's strange; I didn't hear my phone ring..." I mumbled as I searched myself, but aside from a pack of cigarettes and my wallet, I found nothing.
"Stop looking," Li Zhisheng said. "I forgot my phone when I got up this morning; you probably did too..."
"No, I'm sure I had my phone with me. It's a habit I've developed from doing business; I never go anywhere without it because someone might need to reach me at any moment." I continued to search anxiously.
"Did you leave it behind while dealing with my father? Why not try calling again?" Li Zhisheng suggested.
Hearing this, I turned to Hu Fang. "Can I borrow your phone for a moment?"
"You men are always so careless, leaving things behind when you leave," Hu Fang remarked as she handed me her phone.
I took the phone and checked her call log. Sure enough, she had called me several times, but the timestamps indicated they were before I was at Li Zhisheng's house; it seemed like they were earlier when I should still have been at the Cemetery.
Thinking about it, I dialed my number and held the phone to my ear, listening to the beeping sound of the line connecting.
"It must have been lost at the Cemetery," I muttered to myself. "I wonder if anyone found it." Just as I thought no one would answer and was about to hang up, an elderly voice suddenly came through on the other end.
The voice sounded weak as it said, "Why are you following me...?" Hearing this sent chills down my spine, and two questions immediately popped into my mind: Who is this person? And how does he know who I am?
Realizing this could be the old man we encountered at the Cemetery, I wondered how he knew it was me calling. I hadn't said anything yet.
"Who are you?" I asked into the receiver, wanting to confirm my suspicions.
There was a moment of silence on the other end before he replied slowly, "We've met before; have you forgotten? I'm the one you were following in the Cemetery."
"How do you know it was me who called you? This number is clearly recorded in my phone contacts under a woman's name..." I said cautiously.
The old man chuckled oddly, "You lost your phone, and it's not strange to call from someone else's number... But let's not digress. You called back because you want your phone, right?"
"Of course. Since you know this, you must be looking for some benefits, right?"
The old man grinned, "Young people these days are really sharp. Since you've figured it out, I won't beat around the bush. Tonight, bring money to the place where we first meet. As for how much money... that depends on your sincerity... Heh heh."
With that, the old man hung up the phone, but his last strange laugh filled me with a deep sense of unease; it seemed this matter was not as simple as I thought.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng, who had been watching me hang up, curiously asked, "So, did someone pick up your phone? What did they say?"
"It was indeed picked up by someone, but..." I hesitated for a moment before handing Hu Fang's phone back to her. Meanwhile, Death Apostle, who had been silent until now, spoke up: "Did they have any conditions?"
Yao Long chimed in, "These people are crazy for money; they find something someone dropped and think they can extort money!"
"If all they wanted was money, this matter might be easier to handle. What worries me is that they might want more than just money..." I replied, recounting the situation Li Zhisheng and I encountered at the Cemetery, along with the conversation I had with the old man on the phone.
After listening, Death Apostle said, "Hmm, I feel the same way as you. This doesn't seem so simple."
However, Yao Long dismissed it, saying, "It's just a phone; if worse comes to worst, just don't get it back. You have money; you can buy another one easily. And as for the number, can't you just replace it with your ID? What's so complicated about that?"
Hearing this, Li Zhisheng teased him: "Yao Long, do you even remember when things were simple for you last time? What happened then?"
Yao Long was left speechless by Li Zhisheng's remark, his face alternating between shades of green and white.
"Even if I know something unusual is there, I still want to take a look. After all, my original purpose was to seek out those strange occurrences; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to eliminate my mark..." Although I said this, I was currently weakened because a lot of my power had been drained by Li Zhisheng's father. Now, I estimated that I had less than ten percent of my strength left. Coupled with the threat of the mark, even facing some ordinary Evil Spirits would be a challenge for me.
Li Zhisheng, standing nearby, immediately noticed my concern. He said, "Since he wants you to go at night and hasn't told you the specific time, it likely means any time at night will do. If he really is a staff member of the Amusement Park, he can't just wait for us there indefinitely; he must have his own work or at least need to rest. Therefore, we can basically conclude that old man is not a normal person. Given your current lack of power, I'll accompany you tonight."
After hearing Li Zhisheng's analysis, I nodded. It seemed a bit forced, but there was some truth to it.
"Then I also..." Hu Fang pointed at herself as if indicating she wanted to join us.
I smiled and said, "Don't worry; it should be safe this time. You don't need to trouble yourself. With Li Zhisheng accompanying me, there shouldn't be any issues. Besides, I'm worried this might be Yang Master's scheme; I'm afraid they might use a diversion tactic again. You should stay home and protect Death Apostle."
Upon hearing that I wanted her to stay home and protect Death Apostle, her expression immediately turned serious. She earnestly replied, "Don't worry; I will definitely do my best to protect him." With that, she gave Death Apostle a firm pat on the shoulder, which made him wince in pain due to her excessive strength.
He gently pushed Hu Fang's hand away and said, "Let Yao Long come with you as well. His alertness is good; if there's any danger, he can detect it early and perhaps avoid unnecessary conflicts..."
