As soon as I spoke, I hurriedly took a few steps back. At the same time, I heard Li Zhisheng seemingly lose his footing in his haste and fall to the ground.
Just as I heard Li Zhisheng let out a muffled groan, a cold wind swept past me, and something heavy crashed down in front of us with a loud bang, kicking up a cloud of dust that made me cough uncontrollably.
“Li Zhisheng! Are you okay?!” Not knowing where Li Zhisheng was at that moment, I shouted at the top of my lungs.
“I’m fine, just fell…” Li Zhisheng replied, crouching on the ground as he fumbled for his lighter. A flicker of light illuminated the ground just a few steps away from me. Li Zhisheng was on the ground, covered in dust, looking like he had taken quite a tumble.
Seeing this, I rushed over and extended my hand toward him. “Give me the lighter, get up…”
No sooner had I spoken than an eerie face appeared right in front of me. It was the same thing I had seen earlier, blocking the way between me and Li Zhisheng. Its hollow mouth emitted a series of sinister giggles that sent chills down my spine.
“Don’t worry about me! Just get out of here!” Li Zhisheng shouted from the ground.
At that moment, as soon as Li Zhisheng spoke, I instinctively stepped back several paces. By the light of Li Zhisheng’s lighter, I saw that it was a “person” without arms or legs, floating in mid-air. Its eyes and mouth had turned into three pitch-black holes. The gaunt, yellowed face bore no expression, and sparse hair hung down like dead willow branches, obscuring its features.
The Demonic Mark, dressed in white, hovered above the ground with its empty sleeves drooping helplessly at its sides. I could feel an intense chill radiating from its hollow eyes.
“Wasn’t it killed by Yao Long before? Could it be that what Yao Long killed wasn’t this thing?!” Panic flashed across my face as I thought this. At that moment, the Evil Spirit suddenly lunged straight at me, extending tendril-like appendages from its empty sleeves.
These appendages were slightly thinner than human arms and appeared segmented, twitching restlessly in the air as if they were agitated.
By now, I had retreated to the wall of the Cemetery, with nowhere left to escape. As I watched the monster open its numerous tendrils ready to pounce on me, I clenched the talisman tightly in my hand, waiting for it to get close enough for me to press it against its head.
But just when it was within arm's reach, a blood-red tendril suddenly shot out from the darkness and wrapped tightly around the lunging Evil Spirit, yanking it back into the shadows. Following that came a series of crunching sounds from within the darkness, accompanied by the Evil Spirit’s piercing wails.
Seeing this unfold sent shockwaves through me. Was there an even more terrifying monster lurking in this pitch-black darkness?!
Thinking quickly, I couldn't hesitate any longer. I hurried over to Li Zhisheng, who was struggling to get up, and helped him to his feet before turning to run.
Just as we turned, a sudden flash of blue light erupted from the darkness ahead. I focused my gaze and saw Yao Long standing in the distance, holding the Azure Spirit. His bow was enveloped in the blue flames of the Void Spirit, radiating a true brilliance.
At that moment, Yao Long had an arrow nocked and, seeing us turn, shouted at me, "Get out of the way!"
Hearing his voice, I quickly pulled Li Zhisheng aside and leaned against the wall of the Cemetery. Before I could steady myself, a whoosh echoed as a blue light zipped past me.
The blue arrow suddenly burst forth with dazzling brilliance, illuminating the dark space around Yuan Bei as if it were broad daylight. Then came a loud boom as the arrow struck its target, accompanied by a powerful shockwave that exploded nearby.
Thanks to the light from the explosion, I vaguely saw a massive face appear in the distance; it resembled the strange old man I had encountered earlier at the Cemetery.
But before I could get a clearer look, the light from the explosion faded away, plunging everything back into darkness. The lighter that Li Zhisheng had been holding was extinguished by the shockwave.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng shoved the lighter toward me and said, "Help me light this!"
I didn't dare delay. I quickly ignited the lighter and held it high, hoping to illuminate further into the darkness. However, no matter how high I raised it, the feeble flame only cast a limited glow, still failing to reveal what that Demonic Mark was in the distance.
Just as I was growing anxious, Yao Long shot another arrow. As the blue light flashed again, I noticed that Li Zhisheng had already condensed the power of Soul Burial into a spear over a meter long.
He gripped the spear tightly with one hand and positioned it behind him in preparation to throw...
In an instant, he focused on that creature again. With the renewed blue light illuminating our surroundings, Li Zhisheng aimed carefully and hurled the spear with all his might.
This time, I could see clearly: the creature in the distance had a face identical to that of the old man I had encountered before—only this face was enormous, towering at least two adults high. Thick tentacles emerged from around its massive head, supporting its grotesque visage. These tentacles were similar to those extended by the Vengeful Spirit earlier but were significantly larger.
As I stood there, dumbfounded, Yao Long and Li Zhisheng's attacks struck the monster simultaneously. A brilliant blue light mixed with a swirl of black smoke erupted on the Monster Face.
This blow truly inflicted significant damage on the creature. It let out a series of guttural growls, opening its blood-red maw, which seemed to still harbor remnants of the Vengeful Spirit it had devoured.
Seeing this, I wanted to urge Li Zhisheng to distance himself from the monster and observe its attack patterns before retaliating. However, before I could voice my thoughts, he had already gathered another Black Sphere in his hand and hurled it at the monster without hesitation.
In an instant, the Black Sphere exploded against the creature's face with a loud bang. I had thought this strike would push the monster back slightly, but contrary to my expectations, it not only failed to repel the creature but also provoked its wrath completely.
The monster roared in fury, extending its blood-red tongue straight towards me and Li Zhisheng's position.
"Watch out!" came Yao Long's urgent shout from behind as he shot an arrow...
But it was too late. The blood-red tongue moved with incredible speed, and before either Li Zhisheng or I could react, it had completely wrapped around Li Zhisheng and was preparing to pull him into its mouth...
