On the morning of the twenty-first, we set out to move some furniture that we hadn't finished relocating before. However, upon arriving at our previous residence, we found the door wide open. Most of the remaining furniture inside had been smashed to pieces, and the once clean floor was now marked with clear footprints.
"It seems Haoyang wasn't lying to us! If we hadn't left yesterday, those destroyed items might have been us instead..." I stood at the doorway, a chill running down my spine.
"Quick, check if any of your important things are missing!" Li Zhisheng asked anxiously from behind me.
"Don't worry, I took those things yesterday. There's nothing important left here; it's just a shame about the furniture. I really liked it..." I sighed.
"What time is it? You're still worried about furniture? It's a blessing that we're safe..."
As we spoke, everyone picked through the rubble and salvaged what little was usable, bringing it back to our house in the suburbs.
By the time we finished organizing everything, it was already ten in the afternoon. Everyone was exhausted from the lack of sleep last night and the physical labor of the day. As soon as we got home, we collapsed onto the sofa in various positions.
Soon enough, Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng began to emit faint snores. Although I was also incredibly tired, memories of last night rushed back to me. I hurriedly woke Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng, saying, "You can't sleep! Don't you remember?! If you fall asleep, Worm King might kill you!"
Hu Fang drooped her eyelids, dark circles under her eyes, and weakly replied, "I can't take it anymore; I need to sleep..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she flopped back onto the sofa and fell asleep again. Li Zhisheng, on the other hand, slapped his face awake and said, "You wake her up; I'm going to wash my face to wake up." With that, he headed towards the bathroom.
I glanced at Yao Long, who showed no signs of fatigue, then looked back at Hu Fang, who was sleeping like a log on the sofa. I asked Yao Long, "How do you do it? Why aren't you tired at all?"
Yao Long turned around and smiled. "When I was on a mission before, there were times when I went seven days without sleep. So this isn't much for me anymore; I just feel a bit mentally drained."
Hearing this, I had hoped to gain some tips on resisting sleep from him but ended up with nothing. Reluctantly, I shook Hu Fang awake again and pushed her toward the bathroom to splash some water on her face.
Afterward, everyone lay down where they could find space instead of sitting on the sofa again. We settled onto the cold floor and stared at the boring programs on TV, hoping to survive through the night.
It was just past midnight when the surroundings suddenly plunged into darkness, startling me awake. "What happened? What happened?!" I exclaimed. "Is there a power outage...?" Everyone else was jolted from their drowsy state, looking around in confusion.
"Wait a moment, I think I brought some candles when we moved..." I said, fumbling in the dark until I found the cabinet and rummaged through a drawer to pull out some candles.
Next, I lit the candles and returned to the group, placing them on the floor. The faint candlelight flickered in the already worn-down room, casting eerie shadows on everyone's faces.
"Only in the suburbs could a power outage happen without any notice..." I muttered as I glanced out the window, only to see that the buildings outside were shrouded in darkness as well, indicating a widespread blackout.
"I was already dead tired, and now there's no TV to pass the time. What are we going to do now..." Hu Fang complained while yawning.
"How about we take this opportunity to play Supernatural Game? I've never played it before..." Yao Long suggested energetically.
I pointed at myself and said, "Look at us; we're barely hanging on. I could fall asleep standing up right now. If we start playing, who knows if we'll even notice if a ghost shows up." As I spoke, my body swayed slightly, and my eyelids drooped dangerously low.
Seeing this, I quickly pinched myself hard to stay awake. "I have an idea that might help us stay alert," Li Zhisheng said as he got up and walked over to the refrigerator. In the dim candlelight, I couldn't see what he pulled out, but moments later he approached us with a bag in hand, wearing a mischievous grin.
"Are you ready?" Li Zhisheng asked as he sat down beside us, placing the bag in front of himself and pulling out a translucent object with one hand.
Before I could respond, he casually tossed the object into my collar. Instantly, a wave of icy coldness slid down my neck and into my abdomen.
In an instant, goosebumps covered my skin as I jumped up and shook out the ice from my clothes. "Hey! That's too much! Who keeps themselves awake like that?!" I protested.
"What else can we do? If there were better options, would I resort to this?" he replied before grabbing another ice cube and slipping it into his own shirt. He shivered as the cold made contact with his skin.
"Hu Fang, do you want one?" Li Zhisheng then held up another ice cube in front of Hu Fang. Seeing this, she quickly waved her hands in refusal. "No, no, no! I'll pass; you guys go ahead..."
Since Hu Fang was female, Li Zhisheng hesitated to press further. Seeing her refusal, he merely pouted and put the ice cube back into the bag.
At that moment, Hu Fang suggested, "If it comes to that, let's tell ghost stories. Although we've already encountered some spooky things, listening to stories might help keep our focus."
After hearing this, I sat down again and said, "Sure, anything is better than sitting in silence... So who goes first?"
Upon hearing this, everyone exchanged glances, each waiting for the others to start. Noticing this, Yao Long smiled and said, "Since that's the case, I'll go first. However, my story isn't about ghosts; it's related to Gu Technique..."
Upon hearing this, I became quite interested. After all, Yao Long and I were about to visit Miao Gu soon, and knowing more about such matters would definitely be beneficial.
But Hu Fang asked, "Does the story involve bugs?"
Yao Long glanced at Hu Fang and noticed her fear of bugs. He then pretended to be mysterious and said, "Of course there are! Since we're talking about Gu Technique, how could there not be bugs?"
Hearing this made Hu Fang a bit anxious; she instinctively hugged her legs tightly and curled up into a ball. Seeing this, I slapped Yao Long on the shoulder and said, "Stop scaring Hu Fang. Just get on with it..."
