As the pitch-black claw, glinting with a chilling light, was about to pierce Yao Long's body, it was already too late to evade. Without hesitation, I grasped Jiang Ling in my hand and positioned the blade in front of my arm. I then stepped forward boldly to shield Yao Long, raising Jiang Ling in front of me.
In an instant, the dark claw collided directly with Jiang Ling, sparking a shower of flames. The impact was so strong that I leaned back slightly, nearly losing my balance.
Meanwhile, Yao Long was behind me, pressing firmly on my shoulders to help absorb the blow. "Are you okay?" he asked with concern as the attack was deflected.
"I'm fine..." I began to respond, but then I noticed that the massive claw had suddenly changed direction, lifting high and aiming its sharp point at Yao Long behind me.
I cursed under my breath, realizing the danger. I quickly leaped into the air, preparing to strike down at the claw's head with all my strength. As I swung Jiang Ling, it released a dark Slash Mark even more intense than the claw itself. In that moment, the black Slash Mark collided with the claw, exploding in a thunderous blast.
Since I was airborne and too close to the claw, the shockwave from the explosion knocked me down hard onto my back.
I groaned softly, feeling warm liquid trickle from the corner of my mouth. "Get out of the way!" Yao Long shouted nearby. At that moment, still dazed on the ground, I couldn't move fast enough to evade.
Seeing that I had no chance to escape, he rushed over and kicked me away with all his might. His kick sent me flying nearly ten meters.
When I turned to look back at him, I saw Yao Long raising one arm to block the claw's attack, but the sharp point had already sunk deep into his arm.
"Yao Long!" I shouted in alarm and sprang up from the ground. At this moment, I could no longer care about my own pain; I grabbed Jiang Ling and hurried towards Yao Long.
As I got closer, I swung Jiang Ling from below upwards, aiming for the connection between the claw and its body—the Scorpion Tail—hoping to sever it directly.
With a loud clang, it felt as if Jiang Ling had struck an incredibly hard metal surface, sending a jolt of pain through my hands. The Scorpion Tail did not break; it merely deflected my attack.
Seeing that the claw had been pulled away from Yao Long's arm due to my strike, I rushed over to support him and asked urgently, "Yao Long! Are you alright?"
It was as if he hadn't heard me; he remained frozen in place with his arm raised, staring blankly ahead as if lost in thought. A flash of lightning illuminated the night sky, revealing that his skin was gradually turning a dark purple and his body was stiffening.
"Oh no, has he been poisoned?!" I muttered anxiously to myself.
At that moment, the dust around us gradually settled, revealing a figure in the distance. She swayed her long, scorpion-like tail behind her, letting out a series of sinister laughs as she slowly approached us.
"Useless. He’s been poisoned by me and is close to death. I advise you to keep your distance from him; otherwise..."
Upon hearing this, I was already seething with rage. Before she could finish, I furrowed my brows and shouted angrily, "You old, wretched monster! Even now, you still want to harm others. If anything happens to Yao Long, I will make sure you suffer!"
"Heh heh, young one, don’t be too arrogant. I’m just trying to give you a friendly warning. If you choose not to listen, that’s on you."
The Old Hag finished speaking and let out a series of chilling shrieks that sounded inhuman. The noise was sharp and grating, piercing through the air with such intensity that it felt like my eardrums were being torn apart. Even when I covered my ears with my hands, it did little to help.
Seeing this, although I didn’t know what she intended to do, my first instinct was clear: I had to stop her!
With that thought in mind, I ignored the pain in my ears and swung Jiang Ling fiercely, channeling more power into the sword. Then, with all my might, I slashed towards the Old Hag.
In an instant, several Slash Marks surged forward like a whirlwind aimed at the Old Hag, their ferocity catching even me off guard. "Useless; such attacks won’t harm her at all..." came the voice of the Void Spirit from within me.
Hearing this made my heart tighten. "If you know this, why didn’t you say so earlier? What should I do now? Close combat is impossible; ranged attacks won’t work either. Am I just supposed to wait for death?!"
Seeing my impatience, the Void Spirit replied calmly and emotionlessly with two words: "Hatred."
For some reason, upon hearing those two words, I felt a stirring in my heart as if a terrifying power was calling out to me—a force of unimaginable darkness that offered no glimmer of hope...
Gradually, anger, fear, and madness surged forth in a wave of negative emotions that began to consume me...
"That’s it! That’s it!" The Void Spirit's voice sounded almost ecstatic. At the same time, dark lightning erupted around me, crackling and spreading like wildfire. A space darker than night itself was released from within me, continuously devouring everything around.
The Old Hag in the distance seemed taken aback by this spectacle. In a panic, she shouted at me, "Who... who are you?!"
"Who am I?" I laughed maniacally. "I am everything you fear!"
As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt a surge of power coursing through my body, like a bolt of black lightning racing towards the Old Hag. In an instant, a shadow flashed by, and several dark energy blades rapidly spread around her, resembling a cloud of black mist gradually engulfing her.
At that moment, the Old Hag hurriedly expelled a yellow-green gas from her mouth, trying to fend off the encroaching darkness. But no matter how much she released, she could not stop the black mist, nor could she even slow it down.
"Do you feel it? Fear..." I smirked and whispered in her ear.
Upon hearing this, she was startled, her body trembling slightly. Then she struck the ground with her Scorpion Tail, using the force of the impact to propel herself into the air, attempting to escape the black mist.
But I would not let her flee so easily. Sensing her intention, I leaped into the air after her. Timing it perfectly, a killing intent surged in my eyes as I gripped my Jiang Ling tightly, channeling what felt like an endless stream of power into the sword.
In that moment, the You Long coiling around me transformed from red to a pitch-black dragon, its size increasing several times over.
"I want you to truly experience the taste of despair..." With that, I swung my Jiang Ling, and a flash of black light cut through the air as I severed the Old Hag's Scorpion Tail with a single strike.
