After listening to our opinions, Li Zhisheng said, "Since you have made your decision, let's go ahead and see what lies ahead, whether it be wolves or tigers."
I attempted to rise, and the pain in my body had lessened considerably thanks to Haoyang pulling the foreign object out. However, I still felt some discomfort. I managed to stand up and said to Haoyang and Li Zhisheng, "Let's go..."
With that, I took a few difficult steps forward alongside Haoyang, with Li Zhisheng following closely behind.
As we moved along the stream, the rocky terrain added more obstacles to my already challenging journey.
In the quiet of the night, none of us spoke; only the sound of the flowing stream and our footsteps crunching on the gravel filled the air.
Not long after we started walking, I suddenly noticed a crimson light rising silently from the darkness ahead. It seemed to materialize out of thin air, slowly ascending from the ground into the air. "Look! What is that ahead?" I exclaimed in surprise.
Seeing the red light, Haoyang also stopped. He watched the glowing point that had risen over a meter high with caution and said, "Whatever it is, it doesn't seem friendly."
At that moment, Li Zhisheng also noticed the light. He remained silent but stared intently ahead, subconsciously gathering a Black Sphere in his hand.
I had not yet awakened the Void Spirit, so I couldn't sense what it was. Still, I cautiously drew Jiang Ling and asked Haoyang and Li Zhisheng, "Can you feel what that thing is?"
Under the moonlight, Haoyang's face was serious and his expression grave as he silently focused on the front. Li Zhisheng replied, "It's not about whether we can feel it; it's that it seems to have no presence at all—almost as if it 'does not exist.'"
Hearing this made my heart race. "What? Doesn't exist?!"
Haoyang chimed in beside me, "That's true; even I can't sense any aura from it."
Now I looked at the crimson light ahead with growing dread. A chill ran down my spine as I wondered what kind of entity could elude both Soul Burial and Void Spirit. Did it possess power akin to Gu Kai or even Li Zhisheng's father?
As this thought crossed my mind, I felt a shiver run through me. Suddenly, I noticed that the light began to flicker erratically, deepening my confusion.
"Don't move yet; let me check what it is..." Haoyang raised his arm to shield me and Li Zhisheng behind him and cautiously stepped forward.
"Be careful!" I whispered to Haoyang. He did not respond but continued moving forward. Watching him step away from us toward the light made my heart tighten with worry.
As Haoyang approached the red light, he suddenly stopped and quickly reached out with one hand, grasping the glowing point in his palm. He turned to us and said, "Don't be afraid, it's just a bug."
Haoyang's action surprised me, but hearing it was a bug made me curious. "What kind of bug glows red?"
"Come on, let's take a look," Li Zhisheng said to me.
I followed Li Zhisheng to Haoyang's side. When Haoyang saw us coming, he opened his hand in front of us and said, "Look..."
As Haoyang opened his palm, the red light rose again from his hand, flickering in the air. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was actually a firefly the size of a soybean, its tail emitting a red glow.
"It's just a firefly?" Li Zhisheng remarked. "But why is it glowing red?"
Haoyang shook his head. "I don't know either. I only noticed it was just an ordinary firefly when I got closer. Aside from the red light it emits, there's nothing unusual about it."
Then, the firefly flew out of Haoyang's hand, seemingly startled, and its tail light instantly extinguished, disappearing into the darkness.
"Why are there fireflies appearing now in late autumn?" Li Zhisheng seemed puzzled.
"Whatever it is, as long as we know it's harmless, let's not worry about it for now. We need to keep moving; the longer we stay here, the more dangerous it becomes." I said this outwardly, but inside I felt that this place was not as simple as it seemed. However, without any evidence to prove my feelings, I had to let it go for now.
After hearing this, Haoyang and Li Zhisheng nodded in agreement. We continued down the stream. After walking for an unknown amount of time and rounding a large mountain, we came upon a relatively flat path that followed the stream and seemed to stretch toward a town faintly visible in the distance.
However, the town was shrouded in darkness with no lights visible; we could only make out the outlines of some low buildings under the moonlight.
"That should be the town we're heading to. There should be some clinics or medical stations there where we can treat our wounds," I said as we walked along the road for a bit longer...
Before long, we entered the town and saw a signpost that read "Liangmu Town." "This is it," Haoyang said.
"Where should we go now?" Li Zhisheng asked while looking around at the tightly shut doors and windows.
"Let's see if there's a place to stay," I suggested, and the three of us began searching for an inn along the street.
The town was small, easily seen from one end to the other. Low two-story buildings lined both sides of the street, with a few narrow alleys branching off to the left and right. As we walked and looked around, we noticed a faint glimmer of light coming from a side street ahead.
Seeing this, we quickened our pace toward the alleyway, where we found a dimly lit sign deep within. It flickered intermittently, likely due to years of neglect, with some parts no longer illuminated. We could barely make out the words "Inn."
"It looks like there's a place to stay up ahead," I said as I led the way into the alley.
Next to the sign was a set of glass double doors that appeared to have not been cleaned in ages, showing signs of wear and grime. Through the glass, I could see the reception desk inside and an old leather sofa positioned to the right.
At that moment, Haoyang and Li Zhisheng arrived at the entrance of the Inn as well. Together, we stepped into this somewhat rundown establishment. Approaching the front desk, I heard a series of deep snores coming from within…
"Hey! Wake up!" I tried to rouse the sleeping attendant. He startled awake at my voice, looking bewildered as he took in our bloodied appearance. "I-I wasn't slacking off! Please don't kill me…" he stammered in fear.
