Yao Long's words struck a chord with me. After all, everyone observes from different perspectives, and naturally, their thoughts and interpretations vary. However, hearing such words from Yao Long made me regard him with newfound respect.
Thinking about it, we couldn't afford to delay any longer. I urged Yao Long to follow me as we ascended the stairs beside the building to the fifth floor, then successfully crossed the bridge into the restricted area.
At that moment, although we were within the warning zone, we were still some distance from the actual restricted area. So, after searching around for a moment, we finally discovered a staircase leading down.
We made our way out of the building, evading the police patrols, and after much effort, we stealthily entered the area.
"Do you think those people are trying to set us up on purpose?" Yao Long asked as he walked ahead. The warm-colored lights that once seemed to create a peaceful atmosphere now cast an eerie shadow over him.
"Not likely," Li Zhisheng replied quietly as he walked alongside me. "First of all, they can't be Yang Master; if they were, they would have acted long ago. So if they aren't Yang Master, why would they want to frame us? To steal the Divine Anomalies Classic? Or are they trying to lead us to discover something?"
I had initially harbored little doubt about those who called themselves Path Killers, but Li Zhisheng's words sent a shiver down my spine. Those individuals appeared to be no weaker than us; even without a Void Spirit within them, they could still balance our strength. If that old man decided to intervene, he could easily subdue us.
Although it seemed on the surface that they had no reason to target us, if they indeed wanted to guide us toward discovering something—as Li Zhisheng suggested—it could explain why they hadn't acted directly against us.
"But if that's the case, what could their motive be?" I found myself murmuring.
"What motive? Hurry up and keep up! What are you thinking about?" Li Zhisheng turned back to urge me.
It was then I realized I had slowed my pace while lost in thought and had fallen behind them by quite a distance.
"I'm coming!" I replied quickly, picking up my pace and lowering my body as I caught up with them. Just as I reached their side, I noticed that Yao Long and Li Zhisheng had suddenly stopped. At that moment, I distinctly felt an aura of Killing Intent emanating from both of them.
"What’s wrong? Did you see a ghost?" I asked. Yao Long and Li Zhisheng remained silent. In the dim light of a nearby streetlamp, I saw armor slowly forming over Yao Long's exposed arm, completely encasing it as he prepared for an attack.
Li Zhisheng was also gathering a faint Black Sphere in his hand; dark energy gradually spread from his drooping arm up to his shoulder.
Seeing this, I quickly grabbed Li Zhisheng and whispered to him, "Don't! Using your power to attack will make noise, and that will attract the police."
To my surprise, Li Zhisheng frowned deeply and glanced at me. "You can't see these Vengeful Spirits, so you wouldn't know. In fact, as we came here, there were Vengeful Spirits everywhere on the streets and in the houses. Even the patrolling police have been possessed by those Evil Spirits. Yao Long and I didn't want to harm the innocent officers, which is why we held back. But now..."
Before he could finish, I felt a sudden chill rush toward us with a whoosh. Although I couldn't see what was attacking us, I could sense that it was no ordinary Vengeful Spirit.
In this situation, Li Zhisheng quickly put away the Black Sphere in his hand and then pushed me out with a palm on my shoulder. Just as I fell to the ground, a muffled bang echoed, accompanied by the sound of shattering stones, raising a cloud of dust where Yao Long and Li Zhisheng were standing.
Worried, I called out to Yao Long and Li Zhisheng to see if they were okay. But as soon as I spoke, I saw them both leap out from the smoke.
In a daze, I noticed that Li Zhisheng seemed to have sustained some injuries on his shoulder while protecting me. Yao Long, on the other hand, appeared unscathed. He stood firm, his eyes glinting with ferocity as he raised his fist covered in Worm King Armor and swung it forward.
But for some reason, before his punch could fully extend, he quickly sidestepped and retracted his heavy fist, leaning back slightly as if dodging an attack.
At that moment, a shadow flashed under the lights, moving at a speed comparable to when I used all my Void Spirit power.
Surprised, I focused my gaze and saw standing before me the man in his thirties from earlier that afternoon and the woman who had been bickering with Li Zhisheng.
They held long swords glowing with Black Light and seemed to have dealt with whatever was attacking us in an instant.
"Once you're done here, hurry up and follow us. Otherwise, it will be difficult to handle when midnight comes," the man said as he reached out to help me up. The woman walked over to Li Zhisheng with a disdainful look and mocked him, "I thought you were capable; turns out you can't even deal with a Rakshasa. You're really useless."
Li Zhisheng was unwilling to accept this and hurriedly stood up from the ground. "What do you know! If it weren't for my previous battle with two Void Gods alongside Yang Master that left me severely weakened, I would have dealt with this Vengeful Spirit already!"
Hearing this, I thought to myself, "What does battling Void Gods have to do with you? You were just watching from the sidelines."
The woman looked him up and down dismissively and said, "You? Battling Yang Master's Void Gods? Others probably sacrificed their lives just to save you... And by the way, is your hand broken by a Void God?"
Hearing her words, I sighed inwardly, realizing that the woman had brought up two of Li Zhisheng's most painful memories. Although she hadn't hit the mark completely, it was true that we owed our survival to Li Zhisheng's father.
At that moment, Li Zhisheng's expression suddenly darkened. He walked silently to my side and asked, "Shen Xu, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." I patted Li Zhisheng's shoulder, wanting to comfort him. But before I could say more, the woman noticed that Li Zhisheng was ignoring her and continued relentlessly, "Are you speechless because I've struck a nerve?" A smug look spread across her face.
The thirty-year-old man beside us sensed the awkward atmosphere and quickly intervened, saying, "Enough! You're acting like a child. There's no point in arguing about this. Shut up!"
With that command, the woman immediately lowered her head, seemingly intimidated by her lower status compared to the man.
He then turned back to Li Zhisheng, looking apologetic. "I'm sorry about this. This girl is young and doesn't know better. If she has offended you in any way, I apologize on her behalf."
Li Zhisheng looked at the man seriously and replied bluntly, "You don't need to apologize for her. If she really wants to apologize, let her come to me herself..."
