At this moment, having spent too long in the White Mist, coupled with the tension in the air, I felt as if the White Mist was pressing in on us relentlessly.
Suddenly, a wave of oppression surged within me, and a sense of suffocation gripped my chest. This feeling intertwined with my unease, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
“Damn it! Whether it's an illusion or whatever, let's just take them down first!” I didn't know why I suddenly blurted that out—was it the loss of reason or the overwhelming emotions that made me restless?
Hearing my words, Li Zhisheng seemed to have reached his breaking point as well. He shouted, “Great! That's exactly what I've been waiting to hear!” With that, he hurled the Black Sphere he had already condensed into the White Mist.
At the same time, I plunged Jiang Ling into my body without hesitation. Instantly, a powerful and searing force erupted within me, gradually countering the seal like a volcanic eruption. I could feel the seal being dismantled by the power of the Void Spirit.
In the blink of an eye, the seal shattered, and an immense power coursed through my entire being. Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
Seeing this, I withdrew Jiang Ling from my chest and was about to swing it to unleash a Slash Mark. However, just as I raised my hand, I noticed that the piercing laughter had not ceased; in fact, it grew even more intense.
A shock ran through me as Jiang Ling trembled slightly in my grasp. In that moment of hesitation, the Void Spirit spoke to me urgently: “What are you doing?! Do you even know what you're doing?!”
The Void Spirit's words were filled with reproach and anxiety. Confused, I quickly retracted my hand that was poised to attack. Just as I was about to ask what was wrong, the Void Spirit cut me off: “Do you realize why time has stopped yet you can still hear that eerie laughter?! Have you forgotten? Those Demonic Marks are spirits!”
“Spirits?!” A thought suddenly flashed through my mind. The term 'spirits' mentioned by the Void Spirit sounded familiar; I vaguely remembered that these spirits couldn't be killed using the Void Spirit's power.
“No wonder Li Zhisheng couldn't sense their presence; they are spirits! This is bad!” As soon as I thought this, I clearly felt time resuming its flow. In that instant, two or three dark green spirits suddenly appeared before me. They had humanoid forms but lacked any human features.
Before I could react, those spirits emitted waves of laughter from within and quickly extended their slender arms to grasp my hand holding Jiang Ling.
As their arms seized mine, I felt the power of the Void Spirit within me being rapidly absorbed by those spirits. Since three spirits were holding onto me simultaneously, the absorption rate was alarmingly fast.
“Fool! Shake them off quickly; otherwise, you'll die here!”
Although I heard the Void Spirit shouting inside me, my arms were firmly grasped by three spirits, rendering me completely immobile. There was no way to shake them off.
At that critical moment, I suddenly felt my body no longer under my soul's control; the Void Spirit had taken over without my knowledge.
"What?!" I exclaimed in surprise.
"I don't have time to explain!" the Void Spirit said, quickly extending another hand and opening its palm towards the three spirits in front of us.
I watched as the Void Spirit controlled my body, rapidly generating a black circular ring resembling a black hole in its palm, intending to absorb all three spirits at close range.
However, the three spirits seemed to have sensed the Void Spirit's movement beforehand. They swiftly released their grip on me and vanished without a trace before my eyes.
"You..." the Void Spirit began to speak as it saw the spirits escape but suddenly its legs gave way, and it knelt down on the ground. Having absorbed nearly half of its power from the spirits, both the Void Spirit and I felt a wave of fatigue wash over us.
"Do you remember what I said before? Merging has side effects," the Void Spirit sighed deeply, trying to steady its breath.
"I remember. Is this what you meant by side effects?!"
"Exactly. The more we merge, the greater our resonance becomes. If this continues, not only will I be able to take over your body when you awaken me, but it may even develop into me being able to awaken from within you at any time." The Void Spirit said, using Jiang Ling to prop itself up and slowly standing.
Just then, I heard Li Zhisheng's voice behind me. He shouted, "Shen Xu, are you okay?! I found that these ghosts can't be sensed at all, and even my attacks are ineffective against them!"
I wanted to respond, but since my body was under the control of the Void Spirit, no matter how hard I shouted, only the Void Spirit could hear me.
"Void Spirit, please tell Li Zhisheng not to use soul power against the spirits! It's useless and will only make them stronger!" I urged anxiously within myself.
But the Void Spirit dismissed my concern with a sneer. "What does that have to do with me?" Then it noticed Azure Spirit strapped to my back and curiously took it down.
"What's this... have you gotten a new weapon? Let me give it a try!" Void Spirit said as he inserted Jiang Ling into the cloth bag on his back, then raised Azure Spirit and pulled the bowstring back sharply.
From the way he drew the bow, it was clear that this wasn't his first time using a bow and arrow, and he seemed to be quite skilled at it. His sharp gaze and steady hands revealed the aura of an ancient archer.
"What a fine bow!" Void Spirit exclaimed, quickly channeling his power into the bow. The immense force he infused activated the dragon patterns etched on its surface.
A pitch-black You Long suddenly emerged on the bow, swiftly moving along its length until it reached the bowstring, transforming in Void Spirit's hands into a dark dragon-headed arrow.
With White Mist in front of me, I could clearly see that the dragon head of the arrow was radiating bursts of Black Light, expanding explosively.
"Hey! What are you doing? Don't you know that spirits absorb power? Why are you giving them your strength for free?!" I exclaimed anxiously at this scene.
Void Spirit remained focused on the direction of the arrow, saying, "Just because you can't sense their presence doesn't mean I can't. Just because you can't defeat them doesn't mean I can't. If I was able to crush them once, then I can do it again..."
