Li Zhisheng's words struck me like a powerful stimulant, piercing deep into my heart. I let out a self-deprecating laugh, "Yes, yes, even someone as seemingly frail as Li Zhisheng can have such awareness. What am I doing... What am I doing?!" I shouted, tears streaming down my face.
The hot tears rolled down my cheeks and dripped onto the ground.
"I can't die; it's not time to give up yet! I haven't lost!" I yelled, once again raising Azure Spirit, using all my strength to suppress the Void Spirit that was about to take over my body. "Get back! This body belongs to me!"
Hearing my shout, the Void Spirit showed no emotion or response; it simply retreated back into my body. I couldn't tell if it was frightened by my current state or if it wanted to see me like this.
"That's right, this is the Shen Xu I know..." With that, Li Zhisheng's legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground with a thud.
Seeing this, I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth. "Li Zhisheng, wait for me! I'll come to save you!"
With that, I infused some of my power into my legs to increase my speed. One hand held Yao Long's bow while the other drew Jiang Ling from behind me. I then channeled some of my power into both Jiang Ling and Azure Spirit while reserving some energy for protection.
"Spirits, is it? You want to absorb my power? I'll gladly send it your way!" I charged forward towards the line of spirits standing before me.
As I rushed towards them, the four spirits in the middle twisted slightly before vanishing from my sight.
The remaining four spirits on either side extended their slender arms and charged at me. Sensing their approach, I suddenly pivoted on my feet, using the friction between the ground and my shoes to come to a halt.
Once stable, before those spirits could reach me, I quickly bent my knees into a jumping stance. The four spirits in front leaped into the air as if they intended to attack me the moment I took off.
But little did they know that this was merely a feint based on my earlier observations of their behavior. When the Void Spirit attempted to absorb them earlier, they had anticipated its move, leading me to deduce that these spirits could quickly assess my actions.
Now that the four spirits were airborne, there was no way for me to evade their attack. Seizing the opportunity, I swiftly moved forward beneath them, gripping Jiang Ling tightly and slashing upward with all my might.
In that instant, a black Slash Mark appeared along the trajectory of Jiang Ling as it cut through the air toward the four spirits.
At that moment, all the power infused in Jiang Ling had been exhausted. So, I plunged Jiang Ling into the ground with force, gripping Azure Spirit tightly with my left hand while pulling back its string with my right hand and quickly turning around.
"Even though I can't sense your presence, past battle experiences tell me you're definitely behind me!" As expected, three spirits lunged at me from behind, mere inches away.
In a flash, there was no room for hesitation.
I mimicked Yao Long, gathering three arrows on the bowstring, and aimed at the three spirits charging towards me. With a whoosh, the three dark arrows flew swiftly from my hands.
They were too close to evade, suspended in mid-air, and had no time to absorb the arrows I shot.
In an instant, the three spirits were knocked away by my arrows. Although my aim wasn't as precise as Yao Long's and didn't hit their vital points, it surely inflicted some damage.
"Shen Xu, your name is Shen Xu, right? I've remembered you!" The Void Spirit within me spoke. Gone was its earlier mockery and anger; instead, I sensed a hint of admiration in its tone.
But I couldn't afford to pay it any mind. I was fully focused on my surroundings because four spirits had vanished before me, yet only three had been repelled by the Azure Spirit's arrows.
"Where did the fourth one go?" I muttered to myself, cautiously scanning the area as I walked toward Jiang Ling, which I had just thrust into the ground.
Once there, I freed one hand and pulled Jiang Ling out. Not only was Jiang Ling depleted of power, but so was the energy I had infused into the Azure Spirit. The spirit that had been struck by Jiang Ling seemed to have been sent flying into the nearby White Mist, completely vanishing from sight.
Looking back, it appeared that the spirit struck by the Azure Spirit had met a similar fate.
"Where could it be..." Before I could finish my thought, the Void Spirit suddenly shouted, "Shen Xu! It's above you!"
Startled, I quickly looked up and saw a spirit descending directly above me, facing downwards as it charged at me.
Realizing the danger too late, I instinctively tried to dodge. However, even if I concentrated all my remaining strength into my legs now, it would be too late.
With no way to escape as the spirit drew closer overhead, I shouted, "Here goes!" and poured all my remaining power into Jiang Ling. Tossing aside the Azure Spirit carelessly, I gripped Jiang Ling tightly with both hands and held it above my head.
There was a sharp clang as the spirit's outstretched arm collided with the blade of the Crimson Spirit Sword. Instantly, a wave of intense pressure hit me; my body sank down sharply as if about to fall. Gritting my teeth, I fought to stay upright because I knew that if I fell now, death would be certain.
"Shen Xu! Hold on!" The Void Spirit yelled at me. At this point, its power was completely exhausted; even if it wanted to help me, it was powerless. Unless I tapped into Hatred's power...
But now there was nothing that could stop my rampage. If I recklessly unleashed Hatred now, the consequences could be unimaginable.
Thinking about it, I exerted all my strength to press my hands firmly against the Jiang Ling above my head, beads of sweat rolling down my forehead and cascading down my cheeks.
As I felt the power I had infused into the sword being completely absorbed by the spirit, I knew that once the last bit of strength was drained, my time would be up.
In that moment of despair, I saw the seven spirits I had previously knocked away leap from the treetops in different directions, diving toward me with the intent to join forces with the spirit confronting me and eliminate me together.
But at that moment, I slightly raised the corners of my mouth. It seemed that the Void Spirit within me understood what I was about to do and shouted out, "Now!"
With that, I used the last ounce of my strength to push away the spirit facing me and sent it soaring into the air.
At this moment, both my power and that of the Void Spirit were completely exhausted, while the eight spirits in the air were diving straight toward me.
I held my sword in one hand and opened the other, palm facing the eight spirits above. In an instant, a black ring emerged from my palm, releasing a tremendous gravitational pull like a black hole, drawing those spirits toward my hand...
