I, along with Yao Long, each harbored our own concerns as we watched Mo Shu's figure gradually fade into the distance. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of power the Black Soldier truly possessed that made him insist on testing our strength before he could feel secure in helping us remove the restrictions on our weapons.
"Are you afraid?" Yao Long suddenly turned to me without any preamble.
Confused, I replied, "Afraid? Afraid of what? Are you worried that Mo Shu will harm us?" As soon as the words left my mouth, I felt a bit strange myself; after all, we had come this far, and it was hard to imagine why he would want to hurt us.
"It seems my suspicions are growing stronger; I keep thinking someone will do us harm," I muttered softly.
"It's not about fearing he will harm us; it's about power... Don't you realize? As our strength increases, more and more dangers arise. Is having great power truly a good thing?"
Yao Long's words prompted deep reflection within me. Just as he said, initially, I only wanted to remove the mark on my hand, but now it seemed we were caught in a terrifying struggle. The deeper we delved, the more danger shadowed us.
"Everything in this world—good or bad—is not for us to decide. But right now, I know we need power. Only by possessing great strength can we protect those around us. I don't want to watch people close to me die anymore..." I said meaningfully as I placed my hand on Yao Long's shoulder and continued, "Don't you want to protect the Death Apostle? What we're facing is no longer just wandering souls; it's a powerful organization—one that could destroy our peaceful lives. Even if we don't stop them, others will come along to do so."
"I used to care about world peace even less; I didn't care about the safety of strangers I didn't know. I'm just an ordinary person; I'm not that great. I only want to use my strength to protect those I can."
At that moment, even though I couldn't see my own expression, I knew my eyes must have revealed a determined gaze.
"You're right. As long as Yang Master exists, Mr. Death cannot be safe. We must completely stop Yang Master if we want to ensure Mr. Death's safety," Yao Long said, clenching his fists as if he had made up his mind.
"What are you two talking about?" A woman's voice came from a nearby room. It sounded like the woman who had helped Li Zhisheng with his wounds earlier.
Turning towards the sound, I saw her carefully carrying a steaming bowl towards us. "Here, this is some medicine I brewed for your friend. He should drink it quickly. Although Master bandaged him up fine, I thought his injury looked quite serious, so I took the liberty of making some medicine for him."
She handed over the bowl, and I quickly caught it with both hands, taking a whiff. "What kind of medicine is this? It smells terrible, like a pair of socks that haven't been washed for weeks!"
Seeing my disgust, the woman hurriedly explained, "This is a special medicine to help wounds heal. We often get injured while training on the Mountain, and drinking this will help you recover quickly. Once he wakes up, just let him drink it."
"Since you say so, fine..." I said, half-convinced, as I joined Yao Long in carrying the dark potion into Li Zhisheng's resting room.
As soon as we entered, we found Li Zhisheng lifting his hand to examine his wounds. Noticing us, he held a bowl of something unknown and asked, "Where am I?"
I carefully placed the bowl on the stone table beside the bed and replied, "I’m not sure how to explain it. Basically, this is a place for slayers. It's where we encountered that group before, led by an old man who loves jujubes. Remember?"
"So it's them..." Before he could finish, the pungent odor from the potion wafted over to Li Zhisheng's bedside. He frowned deeply and glanced at the bowl beside him. "What is this Demonic Mark? Why does it smell so bad? Did you fish it out of a sewer?!"
"It's medicine! Drinking it will help you feel better faster. Don't worry; it's not some strange thing pulled from a sewer." At that moment, the woman entered as well and quickly defended herself upon seeing Li Zhisheng's disgust.
"Medicine?! You mean I have to drink this?!" Li Zhisheng asked in horror.
Yao Long and I exchanged helpless glances and nodded. I said, "Look, she went through all this trouble to make it for you. Just drink it; you can't let her efforts go to waste." With that, I brought the bowl closer to Li Zhisheng, intending to feed him.
To my surprise, Li Zhisheng made a defiant expression as if he would rather die than comply. "No! You must be trying to harm me! I'm not drinking it! You can't trick me!"
Seeing his strong resistance, I could only turn back to look at the woman standing behind us. She snatched the bowl from my hands and stepped forward decisively. Before I could react, she pinched Li Zhisheng's mouth shut with one hand while using the other to forcefully pour the potion down his throat.
"Cough—cough—" After drinking the medicine, Li Zhisheng wore an expression of utter agony. "The most poisonous heart belongs to women; now I've seen it for myself! You're definitely holding a grudge because we argued earlier! If I die, I'll haunt you as a ghost!"
Upon hearing this, the woman let out a light huff, her face full of displeasure. "This medicine is a top-quality healing potion that only people from here can drink. Truly ungrateful," she said, turning on her heel and storming out with the empty bowl in hand.
"You too. Although that girl offended you before, there was no need to react like that. After all, she probably just wanted to make amends for the harm her previous words caused you," I suggested gently.
"Make amends? With something like this? Why don't you drink it!" Li Zhisheng exclaimed, making a face as if he were about to vomit.
"I'm perfectly fine, see? I don't need to drink it," I replied.
After chatting aimlessly for a while in the room, Li Zhisheng asked me about how I ended up here. I then recounted the events involving Mo Shu and our encounter with the Black Soldier.
Upon hearing this, Li Zhisheng clicked his tongue in amazement. "I never would have thought. I originally believed that your weapons absorbed blood and power solely to concentrate strength within them for maximum effectiveness, but I never expected it to be like this..."
"Yeah, it's not just you who didn't see it coming. Even Yao Long and I were taken aback. However, what surprised me even more is that they could actually become part of the balance between Yang Master and Yin Master..."
