Accompanied by a soft voice, a delicate-looking woman appeared under the moonlight. Her enchanting beauty was accentuated by her large, sparkling eyes that were fixed on me. Her long, straight black hair cascaded down her shoulders, appearing even more captivating in the gentle glow of the moon.
I found myself momentarily entranced; after all, how could one not be captivated by such a stunning woman with a graceful figure? Yet, the strong smell of blood in my nostrils served as a constant reminder that this woman was no ordinary being.
"Who are you?" I snapped out of my reverie and demanded, "Where have you hidden my friends?!"
"I'm right here, you can call me Mei," she replied smoothly. "As for your friends, they are important tools to me. I can't give them to you just yet, but I can offer myself to you..." With that, she slowly moved closer.
As Mei approached, I felt a strange haze beginning to cloud my mind. At that moment, the Void Spirit sensed my unease and quickly warned me, "Shen Xu, pay attention!"
The Void Spirit's words jolted me back to reality. When I focused again, I saw that the woman had somehow moved right beside me and was gently sliding her delicate fingers across my cheek.
As her fingers glided over my skin, I caught a whiff of an unusual fragrance that even masked the surrounding stench of blood and flesh.
Realizing this, I instinctively stepped back a few paces and shook my head vigorously, trying to maintain my clarity. Recalling her earlier words, I responded defiantly, "Tools?! What have you done to my friends?!" With that, I gripped Jiang Ling tightly and positioned it defensively in front of me.
Mei smiled sweetly and said softly, "Don't you find me at all alluring? On such a beautiful night, don't you want to spend it with me?"
Her words stirred something within me for a fleeting moment, but then the sight of the dismembered bodies nearby made me feel nauseous.
"It seems you're unwilling! Then I'll have to force you!" As soon as she finished speaking, I raised Jiang Ling high and without hesitation swung it downwards. A Slash Mark emerged from the blade and shot straight towards her.
"Shen Xu! What are you doing?!" The Void Spirit shouted at me. Startled by its voice, I suddenly came to my senses and realized that my strike had landed against the wall before me. There was no enchanting woman; only the cold wall splattered with blood and the massive crack I had created.
"How could this happen?!" I exclaimed as I quickly turned around. To my astonishment, I found myself standing outside the room; everything I had just experienced had been directed at a cold wall.
"What are you looking for? Looking for me?" As I glanced around, the soft voice of the woman came again. She stood in the moonlight, arms crossed over her chest, gazing at me with a pitiful expression.
Realizing the situation was dire, I sensed that this person seemed capable of controlling one's consciousness, making them see only illusions. "An illusion?! Can she use illusions too?!" I thought, raising a hand to rub my eyes vigorously in an attempt to distinguish reality from fantasy.
But no matter how much I rubbed my eyes, the woman remained perfectly still before me. "This has to be real now!" With that thought, I raised Jiang Ling once more and swung it fiercely.
This time, I focused intently on the Slash Mark created by the blade, wanting to witness it strike the woman. Just then, Void Spirit shouted at me again, "Shen Xu! What are you doing?! Be careful, don’t zone out!"
As soon as those words left its mouth, I heard a whoosh behind me, as if a strong wind had swept past. In an instant, a sharp pain shot through my back. Coupled with my previous injuries that hadn’t healed yet, this new pain made me grit my teeth. I thought to myself, didn’t awakening Void Spirit's power mean I wouldn’t feel pain anymore? Why is it still…
Lost in thought, I clenched my fists tightly as cold sweat began to bead on my forehead.
Void Spirit must have sensed my thoughts and said to me, "Don’t you understand yet?! The reason you feel pain is not just because your body is injured; even your soul has been severely wounded!"
I was taken aback. "What? Their attacks can actually harm the soul?!"
While I was still astonished, a chilling wind suddenly rose from my left side. This time, I dared not hesitate; gritting my teeth, I switched Jiang Ling to my left hand and quickly swept it to the side in an attempt to temporarily fend off whatever was emanating Yin Qi.
To my surprise, my sword was abruptly blocked mid-air with a clang by something. The impact sent a jolt through my hands.
I quickly turned to look; there was no one beside me—only a heavy mechanical structure made of steel bars that seemed to be a crane for transporting timber. My sword had been swung carelessly without much force and had merely embedded itself into the steel rather than cutting through it.
"What’s wrong with you? Didn’t you claim you’d show me your skills? Is this all you can do? I don’t like cowardly men," the woman's voice echoed again. This time it was so close that I felt as if she were whispering in my ear. The chill from her words brushed against me, sending shivers down my spine.
“Shen Xu! Did you see or hear something unreal?!” the Void Spirit asked anxiously within me.
“It seems like…” I had barely spoken when the Void Spirit had no intention of letting me finish. It suddenly erupted with a powerful force, seizing control of my body.
At that moment, I was stunned inside myself, yet I could clearly see that on the other side of my body stood a woman named Mei, who was covering her face and giggling.
After the Void Spirit took over my body, it controlled my arm and suddenly exerted force, pulling out Jiang Ling, which was embedded in steel, with a swift motion. Then it swung Jiang Ling behind its back with one hand, lowering its body slightly and leaning forward, preparing to charge.
“Hey, are you calling yourself Mei?” the Void Spirit said, a slight smirk on its lips.
“Eh? What… has someone else taken over? Who are you?” Mei immediately sensed something was off with me. The smile on her face vanished in an instant as she looked at me with slight nervousness.
The Void Spirit smiled faintly and calmly replied, “I am the one who will take your head…”
