Meanwhile, the Charm was less than two meters away from us, as if I could reach out and touch it with a sword. At that moment, I sensed that the Void Spirit seemed to be experiencing hallucinations. Suddenly, it turned sharply, gripping Jiang Ling and positioning her in front of itself, as if trying to block something. However, the direction it was blocking was not where the Charm was attacking from; there were only the remnants of collapsed steel in front of us.
Seeing this, I hurriedly said to the Void Spirit, "Quickly withdraw your power, let me take over!"
Upon hearing my voice, the Void Spirit immediately understood my intention. It quickly suppressed its own power, and I concentrated my mind, regaining control of my body in an instant.
Just as I took back control, the Charm had already rushed to my side. I saw her suddenly raise her remaining hand high above her head and swing it down towards me with deadly precision.
In the bright moonlight, I noticed that the five bony fingers she had left were pale and slender, their tips sharp like five piercing spikes.
Despite feeling a bit dazed at that moment, I remained tense and managed to keep my wits about me, resisting her control.
Seizing this brief moment of clarity, I quickly summoned the power within me and Jiang Ling's strength. I leaned back slightly and aimed for the descending arm above me, swinging my sword upward.
With a flash of sword light, I severed the last remaining arm of the Charm. As soon as it hit the ground, it rapidly withered and shrank away, turning to dust and dissipating into the air.
The Charm stared at her severed hands in shock before stumbling backward a few steps and letting out a series of piercing screams.
As she screamed, crimson cracks began to appear on her face, accompanied by sounds of tearing flesh.
I stood there dumbfounded. In the time it took for me to process what was happening, the once graceful woman had transformed into a monstrous heap of rotting flesh.
The creature towered over three people in height, its massive form sporting long arms with countless women's faces emerging from its grotesque body.
"No wonder she calls herself Charm; she is one of the Chimeras and Monsters," the Void Spirit spoke within me.
"Chimeras and Monsters?" I repeated.
"Yes, that's right," Void Spirit explained. "This kind of specter specifically hunts beautiful young women and absorbs their souls for itself."
"Doesn't that echo the saying that beauty is also a curse? Because of their beauty, those women attract deadly misfortune..." I said, my eyes fixed on the monster ahead, gripping Jiang Ling tightly. Taking advantage of its incomplete transformation, I swung Jiang Ling in a wild dance.
I watched as Jiang Ling traced numerous dark arcs in the air, each arc giving birth to a Slash Mark that shot toward the monster at incredible speed.
The monster emitted a strange sound from within, but before it could react to block my attack, the Slash Marks had already reached it. A dazzling display of black and white light flashed before me as a massive black-and-white sphere formed around its body, generating an immense pulling force that not only drew the monster into the sphere but also pulled nearby collapsing buildings and debris toward its center.
Seeing this, I quickly turned the blade of my sword downward and plunged it deep into the ground, gripping Jiang Ling tightly to prevent myself from being sucked in as well...
Moments later, the force dissipated, and the enormous sphere transformed into a burst of white light that vanished in an instant. The surrounding ruins had been cleared away, leaving an open space where only the large red-glowing magic circle remained intact on the ground.
I glanced around and forcefully pulled Jiang Ling from the ground. Just as I was about to ask Void Spirit where Death Apostle and Hu Fang were located, a mouthful of blood mixed with a metallic taste erupted from my mouth. I spat onto the ground and felt my legs give way beneath me, collapsing to my knees as intense pain surged through my body, as if the power within me was about to burst forth.
"You're safe now; quickly withdraw your power! Otherwise, you really will die!" Void Spirit urged anxiously within me.
"Is... is it really safe now?" I asked, wiping the blood from my lips with my sleeve.
"Don't worry; I can sense no danger around us! Your friends are in the room behind you; hurry and gather your strength to find them!"
"Okay," I replied with a frown, trying hard to calm my mind and slowly drawing my power back inside.
As Void Spirit's power faded away, I felt a sharp pain in my back; my entire body felt like it was falling apart, making it difficult even to stand up.
"I finally understand what Yao Long must feel when his blood vessels burst..." I muttered to myself as I used Jiang Ling to prop myself up and staggered to my feet.
Once I steadied myself, I looked back and saw that the houses behind me remained intact due to their solid foundations. The earlier immense pulling force had not drawn them in; however, many roofs had been torn off and were nowhere to be seen.
“Hu Fang～Death Apostle～Are you there?” I called out weakly, slowly making my way to the room where Void Spirit was.
After a moment, I entered the room. The roof had been torn off, and pure white moonlight poured in. I discovered that Hu Fang and Death Apostle were lying amidst a mountain of flesh and blood, their hands and feet tightly bound, and their mouths sealed with tape.
“Are you okay?!” I forced myself to endure the pain and hurried over to them, using Jiang Ling to cut the ropes binding their limbs.
As soon as Hu Fang felt her limbs loosen, she quickly tore off the tape from her mouth and threw her arms around me, sobbing uncontrollably, “You finally came! I... I thought we were done for…”
For a moment, I didn't know how to respond. I simply patted Hu Fang's back with one hand, comforting her, “It's okay now, it's okay.”
After a while, seeing that Death Apostle and Hu Fang had calmed down a bit, I led them outside and asked, “What happened? Why were you captured? Didn't Yang Master know our location before?”
Death Apostle pondered for a moment before replying, “I think they must have known our location for a long time; they just hadn't acted against us until now. This time they targeted me and Hu Fang, and from what they said, I vaguely understand why they wanted to capture us…”
