As the stone door in front of me revealed a crack, a beam of black-purple light shone through the gap. My heart tightened, and I quickened my pace to push the door open.
The moment the door swung wide, I was stunned. Before me stood the Underworld Gate, radiating a dark purple glow, and Mo Shu Old Senior stood motionless in front of it, seemingly unaware of my arrival.
“Mo… Mo Shu Senior, what are you doing?” I called out as I hurried forward, intending to pull Mo Shu away from the gate.
Just as I approached him from behind, Mo Shu suddenly turned around and struck my shoulder with a heavy palm, sending me stumbling back several meters.
I steadied myself and questioned again, “Mo Shu! What are you doing?! Why is there an Underworld Gate here?!”
Mo Shu’s expression was as cold as water; the warmth I had first seen in him was long gone. He replied icily, “Didn’t I tell my disciple to inform you? Why did you still come in?”
“If I hadn’t come in, how would I know you were doing this? Surely all these Vengeful Spirits are because of you! Why are you doing this?! Don’t you care at all about your disciples’ lives?!” I demanded sharply, looking at Mo Shu’s icy demeanor.
I had initially found their actions suspicious but had tried to dismiss my doubts due to Mo Shu’s good intentions. Little did I expect…
“Their lives? They are merely my adopted sons. Without me, they would have died long ago. Care about their lives? What a joke!” After saying this, Mo Shu burst into mad laughter, a stark contrast to the kind figure I had once known.
“I can’t believe I fell for your nonsense. It seems you’re in cahoots with Yang Master and the others!” My anger boiled over; I could hardly contain my desire to find Jiang Ling and confront him.
As I gritted my teeth in fury, I suddenly noticed a black bow and arrow resting on a stone table in the room. Upon closer inspection, it was none other than Yao Long’s Azure Spirit!
Without waiting for Mo Shu to respond, I dashed to the stone table. Bathed in the black-purple light emanating from the Underworld Gate, I saw not only the Azure Spirit, but also some black wooden blocks resembling Guiding Wood, along with the imprint they had previously taken from Hu Fang lying nearby.
Without hesitation, I grabbed the Azure Spirit from the table and aimed it at Mo Shu, pulling back the bowstring with my left hand.
“Mo Shu! I warn you…” Just as I was about to force Mo Shu to close the Underworld Gate, I suddenly felt power from the Azure Spirit surging into my body, gradually awakening the Void Spirit within me.
“Shen Xu, what…” The Void Spirit seemed to want to ask what was happening, but upon seeing Mo Shu and the Underworld Gate behind him, it froze instantly.
At that moment, I could sense that the Void Spirit had not yet recovered from the last battle and was still somewhat weak.
"Can't you tell? My power has barely returned to half; we can't possibly defeat this old man! Run!" the Void Spirit urged anxiously within me.
"Your Void Spirit is right, run now, or you really will die!" Just as those words left my mouth, Mo Shu suddenly dashed in front of me. He snatched the Azure Spirit from my hands and tossed it aside. "So, are you planning to run now?"
Seeing this, I felt a surge of fear in my heart, knowing I was no match for Mo Shu. Even so, I couldn't just stand by and watch him release a multitude of Vengeful Spirits from the Underworld!
With that thought, I channeled the power of the Void Spirit into my hands and raised a fist to strike at Mo Shu's face. This punch was packed with force; I poured nearly half of my current strength into it.
My clenched fist shot forward like a cannonball, creating a gust of wind, while dark energy seeped through my fingers.
As my fist drew near, Mo Shu remained unfazed. Just as I was about to connect with his nose, there was a loud "smack," and he effortlessly caught my fist with one hand. Then, using his strength, he pushed me back several steps.
However, he did not release my fist. No matter how hard I tried to pull my arm back, I couldn't budge an inch.
"Let go of me!" I shouted, clenching my other fist and swinging it at him in an attempt to make him loosen his grip. But unexpectedly, Mo Shu let out a light grunt. "Let go of you? Sure!" With that, he twisted the hand gripping my fist sharply, turning my entire body ninety degrees and slamming me heavily onto the ground.
"See? You're really going to die," Mo Shu said as he looked down at me. For some reason, I felt a heaviness in my chest and couldn't utter a word.
Noticing that I was struggling to get up, he unhesitatingly lifted a foot and kicked me in the stomach. I let out a groan and flew backward, crashing against the half-open stone door with a loud "bang," causing it to slam shut.
Although I didn't feel pain from the impact, I could clearly sense that the burden on my body was growing heavier.
"Shen Xu..." The Void Spirit called out to me in an extremely serious tone.
"What... what is it?" I responded while forcing myself to rise from the ground.
“Don’t you think the power that old man is using now is very similar to Hatred?!”
“Hatred?! Didn’t he lose the Void Spirit? How can he use Hatred?!” I replied in surprise.
The Void Spirit answered, “I don’t know either. I can’t see any trace of the Void Spirit within him, but my intuition tells me that his current state is definitely Hatred! Don’t force yourself; it’s meaningless. This isn’t an opponent you can defeat just by relying on your courage and fighting spirit. The power that old man possesses is like that of a god to us; it’s simply unshakeable!”
“But where can I run to now… He seems to still hear your words… Who exactly is this old man?” I said, cautiously feeling behind me, trying to open the door while keeping my eyes fixed on Mo Shu, who was less than ten meters away from me.
“Thinking about running now? Don’t you think it’s a bit late?” He lifted a foot and kicked a nearby stone bench, and with a loud bang, the bench was smashed into the crevice of the stone door.
Seeing this, I instinctively dodged and turned back to look. The stone bench was firmly wedged in the heavy stone door; there was no way to open it now. With the remaining strength in my body, even breaking through this stone door would be very difficult.
Just when I felt trapped with no way out, Mo Shu was approaching me with a dark expression, pulling out the Black Soldier hidden within his cane…
