As I watched the Black Soldier in Mo Shu's hand shimmer with a chilling light under the glow of the Underworld Gate, a wave of inexplicable fear washed over me. I couldn't help but resent myself for not recognizing Mo Shu's true nature earlier. 0

In that moment of despair, the Void Spirit suddenly spoke to me, "Shen Xu, you have only one last option left..." 0

Hearing that the Void Spirit had a plan rekindled my hope, and I hurriedly asked, "What is it? Tell me quickly!" 0

"Hatred can drive a person to madness, awakening the darkest parts of their soul. However, you can use what they care about in their normal state to awaken their original consciousness. What you need to do now is find those things and bring him back. Otherwise, not only will you be in danger, but I might not escape either! Your survival depends entirely on you now!" 0

After hearing the Void Spirit's words, for some reason, two words flashed through my mind: "Jujube." The Void Spirit immediately sensed my thoughts and exclaimed in frustration, "What are you thinking about Jujube at a time like this? Are you really planning to die here?!" 0

Just as I was about to explain myself to the Void Spirit, I saw Mo Shu's Black Soldier transform into a streak of dark cold light, drawing an arc in the air. 0

Before I could react, a wound appeared on my left arm, blood gushing out rapidly. 0

"I don't have time to explain right now; I'll just have to try!" I thought as I disregarded the blood flowing from my arm and dashed straight toward Mo Shu. 0

Seeing this, Mo Shu sneered and said, "What’s wrong? Can’t wait to come and die? Don’t rush; the fun is just beginning~" With that, several more cold lights flashed around my body. 0

At that moment, I knew I had sustained more wounds, but none were fatal. It seemed that this old man’s darkest desire was simply to torment others. Since he wasn't killing me, there was still hope! 0

With that thought in mind, I had already closed in on Mo Shu. He looked at me coldly, his eyes devoid of any pity—as if he were gazing at an ant struggling for life. 0

I summoned the power of the Void Spirit and distributed it throughout my limbs to maximize my agility. Then I aimed for the pocket on the side of Mo Shu's clothing and quickly reached out. 0

Having seen where he placed the Jujube earlier, I knew exactly where it was now. 0

Just as my hand was about to slip into Mo Shu's pocket, he suddenly sidestepped away from me and swung his sword again, striking my waist. 0

I stumbled back from missing my target and lost my balance due to the injury at my waist, nearly falling to the ground. 0

But in that instant, I saw a red object fall from Mo Shu's pocket—it was the very Jujube he had placed there earlier! 0

Seeing this situation, I quickly changed direction, using the momentum from my impending fall to lower my body. Then, I channeled all my strength into my left foot and leaped forward with a sudden burst. 0

In an instant, I shot forward like a compressed spring. At that moment, Mo Shu likely thought I would fall to the ground after missing my target and became somewhat careless, failing to notice my surprise attack in time. 0

Seizing this opportunity, I aimed for the large Jujube that was about to hit the ground and swiftly extended my palm, striking it directly toward Mo Shu's mouth. 0

At that moment, Mo Shu seemed to be opening his mouth to mock me but ended up having the Jujube I struck stuffed into his mouth. He froze for a moment, while I, due to the force of my impact, crashed heavily against the wall, stars flashing before my eyes. 0

After a moment, I shook my dazed head and looked toward where Mo Shu had been standing. I found him standing there like a statue, his eyes wide with shock. 0

"Did it work?" I panted to myself. 0

The Void Spirit replied, "Yes, it seems that the taste of the Jujube reminded him of something... Now, I can no longer sense any Killing Intent from him; he should be fine." 0

Before long, I saw Mo Shu's expression gradually calm down as he chewed on the Jujube in his mouth and rubbed his forehead with one hand. 0

Seeing this, I tentatively called out, "Mo Shu?" 0

Hearing my voice, Mo Shu lowered his hand from his head and looked at me. "It's you?! How did you get here? Didn't I tell Mo Lin to inform you not to come in?" 0

Seeing him return to normal, I took a moment to steady my emotions and withdrew the power of the Void Spirit. Then I replied, "Don't worry about how I got here; first tell me why you opened the Underworld Gate." 0

Upon hearing this, Mo Shu glanced back at the door radiating a dark purple light and sighed. "Ah... You don't understand. This isn't an Underworld Gate; it's just a Medium Gate. Although it looks almost identical to an Underworld Gate, it can prevent Vengeful Spirits from the Underworld from entering the human realm." 0

With that, he came over and helped me up from where I was leaning against the wall. He continued, "Come look..." Then he led me to the door and pointed at a softly glowing stone behind it. It was the Soulstone I had seen earlier, placed at the back of the Underworld Gate with only a finger's width separating it from the gate itself. 0

"Soulstone?" I couldn't help but exclaim. 0

"Yes, it's definitely a Soulstone. It is part of what makes up this Medium Gate; the other part is the base of this door," Mo Shu said as he pointed to the area beneath the Underworld Gate. 0

In an inconspicuous spot he pointed to, there lay an oval brown plate that appeared to be made of some kind of metal, likely copper. The plate was small, only about the size of a palm, and very thin; it was nearly impossible to notice unless one looked closely. 0

Seeing that I had spotted the metal plate, Mo Shu continued to explain, "This base is made of Soul Iron, forged from souls. It can be used to open the Underworld Gate. However, opening the Underworld Gate requires a substantial amount of soul power to support it, which is why you are witnessing all these occurrences. I assume you have encountered the Vengeful Spirits wandering around here?" 0

Having just experienced what had happened earlier, I felt uneasy despite his amiable demeanor as he patiently explained things to me. After all, his disciples were merely his pawns, and I suspected there was more to this than met the eye. 0

To avoid provoking him again and becoming a target, I could only feign curiosity and ask, "Oh? So that's how it is. What purpose does this Medium Gate serve then?" 0

Mo Shu glanced at me and smiled as if nothing had happened earlier. "Weren't you all eager for me to investigate what that pattern was? I'm helping you with that right now." 0

"What does investigating that pattern have to do with this so-called Medium Gate?" I was even more confused at this point and had no idea what he was talking about. 0

To my surprise, Mo Shu replied, "Matters of the mortal realm should be asked of people; matters of the Underworld should naturally be asked of spirits. The Medium Gate is my channel of communication with the Underworld..." 0
