Hearing this news, I couldn't help but feel curious and wanted to discuss it with Li Zhisheng and the Death Apostle in the back seat to see if they had any thoughts on the matter.
"Hey, Li Zhisheng, do you think there's something suspicious about this?" I turned around to look, only to find that the three in the back had already sprawled out in their seats, fast asleep. Li Zhisheng seemed to be drooling due to his awkward sleeping position.
Seeing this, I shook my head helplessly and continued driving.
"Are you looking to discuss something with them?" Yao Long, sitting beside me, seemed to sense my thoughts and asked.
"Yeah, but just look at them; they’re sleeping like logs..." I gripped the steering wheel tightly as I replied.
Yao Long chuckled, "Why not talk to me? Although I'm not really good at these things, I might be able to help you think of something."
"Well, it's nothing much. I just wanted to discuss what that person said about the 'Time Tunnel.'"
"To be honest, I've heard a bit about this so-called 'Time Tunnel.' After all, I passed through this area during a mission before, but I never actually entered the tunnel," Yao Long said.
"Oh? Then tell me more. What kind of rumors have you heard?" I pressed for details.
"Nothing too strange. It seems it was debunked later on; it was just a rumor. The specifics are pretty much what that person mentioned earlier: once you enter the tunnel, the time on your phone supposedly rewinds by an hour, and after leaving the tunnel and traveling a bit, it resets. There are several explanations for this—some say it's a problem with the service provider, others claim it's due to magnetic field interference... But as you know, I never really used a phone before, so I can't tell what's true or false."
After finishing his explanation, Yao Long pulled out the phone I had bought for him and checked the time. "It's eleven in the morning. How about we take a detour to check out the tunnel later and verify these rumors ourselves?"
"Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking," I said as I reached for my phone to check the time as well. However, when I felt around in my usual pocket for my phone, I realized it wasn't there.
Suddenly, it hit me—I had left my phone charging on my bedside table because I hadn’t needed it before we set off. In all the busyness, I completely forgot about it.
Noticing my expression and actions, Yao Long scrutinized me and asked, "What's wrong? Did you forget your phone?"
"It seems so..." I replied. "And it looks like it's still charging at home. I wonder if it will explode by the time we get back..."
At that moment, even I felt a bit anxious. But then again, most modern phones have an automatic shut-off feature once fully charged. Since mine hadn't even been turned on, it probably wouldn't be a big deal.
"It should be fine; it's not that easy to blow up a phone—it's not a bomb," Yao Long said while flipping through his own phone.
I noticed his movements and could clearly sense that he was a bit scared.
We chatted casually, and soon the car drove into the outskirts of Zunyi.
Looking at the scattered houses around, which had a hint of ethnic style, I sighed, "Living in houses like these is so much more comfortable."
As soon as I spoke, Li Zhisheng's voice came from the back seat. He chimed in, "Of course! Apartments can never compare to the comfort of a bungalow, but what can we do? There aren't that many bungalows available for you to live in."
Hearing him, and since we were gradually entering the city, I didn’t dare turn around to look at him. Instead, I said, "You finally woke up."
"I only slept for a little while..." he replied. "Where are we now? Have you found any clues?"
"How can you even ask? Just now, I stumbled upon a clue that can't really be considered a clue. I wanted to ask for your opinion, but you were sleeping like a dead pig."
"I'm doing better than these two next to us; they’re still not awake... By the way, what was your clue?"
Seeing Li Zhisheng asking about it, I had Yao Long tell him about the Time Tunnel.
After hearing this, Li Zhisheng exclaimed in wonder, "The world is truly full of surprises... Is this tunnel located in the city? Let's go check it out..."
Before Li Zhisheng could finish his sentence, I suddenly saw a dog darting into the front of the car.
The dog was less than five meters away from the vehicle. At that moment, I swerved sharply, but it was too late; I had no choice but to slam on the brakes.
The sudden stop caused a powerful inertia to surge forward. However, since Yao Long and I were buckled in with seatbelts and had witnessed the scene beforehand, we managed to brace ourselves and avoided crashing into the windshield.
Li Zhisheng and Death Apostle weren’t so lucky. A chaotic series of collisions came from behind me as my seat shook violently from Li Zhisheng's impact.
At that moment, looking at the yellow-brown dog in front of us, it seemed unfazed by our sudden stop. Instead, it leisurely walked past the front of the car as if it didn’t care about our presence at all.
Seeing this made my anger boil over. "This damn dog! It causes trouble and still dares to look down on us. Just wait until I teach you a lesson!" With that thought in mind, I unbuckled my seatbelt and prepared to get out of the car to give that dog a piece of my mind.
But unexpectedly, as I reached to unbuckle my seatbelt, a hand from the backseat grabbed mine. The voice of Death Apostle echoed, "Haven't you heard the old saying? A dog bites another dog over a mouthful of fur~"
"What kind of old saying is that! Tell me, which ancient person said it?" I turned around and saw that both Death Apostle and Hu Fang had been thrown from their seats. Li Zhisheng, being in a conscious state, instinctively used his hands to brace against the impact and was unharmed. However, Hu Fang and Death Apostle were not so lucky; their heads were bruised and swollen, and they were groaning in pain.
Seeing this, I had no choice but to let Li Zhisheng take out some medicine for bruising to help them…
After twenty minutes of sorting ourselves out, we finally hit the road again. At this point, all three in the backseat were wide awake, fearing any further mishaps.
The car drove for another forty minutes, and we had now entered the city.
"Where exactly is this so-called 'Time Tunnel'? We've been around here for half an hour," Li Zhisheng said from the backseat.
"It should be nearby. After entering the city, didn't we ask someone? That tunnel should be around here," I said as I scanned the distance. Sure enough, ahead of us appeared an entrance to a tunnel, and above it was a large black marble area with the words 'Guanjing South Tunnel' painted in bright red.
