Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but feel a surge of fear. The Yellow Dog beside me was barking incessantly at the ever-changing surroundings.
More and more of the ground began to collapse, revealing pools of deep crimson water, while the peeling walls gradually unveiled their true nature: a world made of flesh and blood.
Slowly, it wasn't just this tunnel; even the surrounding buildings began to reveal their original forms. The structures along the street, built with steel bars and iron sheets, transformed into skeletal remains, and even the once blue sky was eroded into a sea of blood red.
As I gazed at this chaotic world before me, a tremor began to rise within my heart. This scene felt oddly familiar, reminiscent of my first encounter in the Cursed Realm.
But I knew for certain that this was not the Cursed Realm, nor could it be the world I had previously speculated about in the Underworld Gate. "Aside from that, there is only one possibility... Onizuka!"
As I uttered the name Onizuka, a foul wind suddenly swept through the tunnel. From those boiling pools of water emerged hands—human hands stripped of their skin.
The hands pushed against the ground as they rose from the pools. At this moment, the Yellow Dog barked even louder but dared not approach; instead, it slowly retreated a few steps.
"Yellow Dog, do you know what these things are?" I felt somewhat foolish asking. Even if the dog could understand me, it couldn't speak human language; it would be pointless to ask.
In that instant, the owners of those hands began to surface from the water—bodies drenched in crimson. Their heads were so mangled that it was impossible to discern any facial features.
Seeing those blood-red corpses surge forth like a tide from the boiling pools towards me, I thought, "No matter what these things are, I can't just sit here and wait for death! I need to get out of here first!"
With that thought in mind, I looked around at the blood-red corpses that had completely surrounded me. Gathering my resolve, I raised my weapon, Jiang Ling, reversed its blade, and plunged it into my own chest.
In that moment, although I felt the power of Void Spirit surging within me, the surrounding blood-colored corpses showed no signs of stopping. It seemed that summoning Void Spirit here wouldn't halt time.
"This power is..." Void Spirit awoke and was taken aback by the situation.
"I don't care where this is; I just need to fight my way out!" As soon as I finished speaking, I withdrew Jiang Ling from my chest and rushed toward the oncoming tide of blood-red corpses.
At this point, fearing that the power within Jiang Ling would exhaust my body too quickly—after all, I had no idea what awaited me next—I chose not to recklessly channel my strength into Jiang Ling but instead opted for close combat.
In an instant, I found myself beside the pile of blood-red corpses, raising Jiang Ling and swinging it down towards them.
"Wait! They are just shells..." Void Spirit shouted inside me.
But it was too late; Jiang Ling had already descended. A black shadow of the sword flashed before my eyes, and the few blood-red corpses in front of me were instantly cleaved in half.
"Shelled?" I asked in confusion.
"Exactly! Shells! These things are merely containers for powerful spirits. If you kill them, you'll release those spirits!" Void Spirit exclaimed. Suddenly, from the three corpses I had split apart, a massive figure emerged, bursting forth and causing the remains to explode.
Seeing this, I was startled and quickly retreated back to the side of the car. The Yellow Dog beside the car, upon seeing the gigantic figure, fell silent, lowering its head and whimpering softly, clearly terrified.
Hearing its whimper, I bent down and picked up the Yellow Dog. "No matter what, you saved my life; I will never abandon you!" Looking back at those blood-red corpses, I noticed that several towering monsters had emerged from the three I had severed. They were so large that with a loud crash, one slammed into the tunnel wall above us, splattering flesh and blood everywhere.
"Yao! These shells contain Yao!" Void Spirit shouted.
"Yao? Aren't they just those general spirits we encountered in Fengmen Village? With our current strength, defeating them should be a piece of cake." With my left arm holding the Yellow Dog and my right hand gripping Jiang Ling, I charged forward once more.
As I approached Yao, I concentrated some of Void Spirit's power into my right hand to increase the force of my swing. I then stepped on Yao's kneeling leg and leaped into the air.
Just as I jumped onto its abdomen, I quickly reversed Jiang Ling in my hand, gripping the hilt with a reverse hold. Then, with a swift motion, I slashed sideways.
A black shadow of the sword appeared at its abdomen as a massive Yao was instantly cut in half.
But at that moment, the other two Yao swung their enormous fists toward me. Suspended in mid-air, I needed to adjust my position quickly by channeling power into various parts of my body. However, this could lead to an imbalance in Jiang Ling's power and put immense strain on me.
With two fists larger than my body about to strike me down, I had no time to think. I immediately poured power throughout my body; Jiang Ling responded to this surge of energy and activated completely. A powerful torrent rushed into me as Jiang Ling came alive.
"Have you even considered the consequences?! You can handle one Yao easily enough, but look at how many are here!" Void Spirit exclaimed. Without waiting for my response, it seized control of my body.
After he took over my body, he struggled to suppress the power within Jiang Ling, then focused on the two fists flying towards me. He raised his right foot and kicked one of them away, while using the momentum from the kick to quickly turn his body and swung Jiang Ling, unleashing a powerful Slash Mark that sliced the other giant fist in half.
"Don't come out yet! Let me find a way to get out of here first," Void Spirit said to me, concentrating power in his legs. At the moment of landing, he leaped up again.
This time, Void Spirit did not run towards the ghost but instead jumped out towards the tunnel exit.
In mid-air, Void Spirit told me, "The Vengeful Spirits here are probably endless. Don't think that just because you have power you can fight against weaker opponents. If you keep fighting here, you'll eventually exhaust your strength and die..."
Hearing this, I had a sudden inspiration and smiled, "Coincidentally, I actually have a way to eliminate all these Vengeful Spirits and Evil Ghosts."
"You plan to absorb them all?! Don't you know that absorbing them will make the mark on your hand grow uncontrollably? That will make you die even faster!"
"Heh, I have a better plan. Quickly take me back..."
