As I marveled at the scene, the Slash Mark sliced through the air, racing towards the massive creature before me.
The creature, instead of dodging, extended a single hand to catch the Slash Mark.
In an instant, the Slash Mark collided with the creature's palm, and a black-and-white orb exploded in its center, rapidly expanding and engulfing its entire arm.
Void Spirit let out a soft snort and said, "Hmph, overestimating itself."
At that moment, it was clear that the creature could no longer withdraw its arm. It seemed as if a powerful force at the center of the orb was continuously pulling it inward.
The creature thrashed about, emitting high-pitched howls that shook the ground, filled with immense fury.
"Quick, strike again! While it still has no chance to resist, kill it!" I urged Void Spirit anxiously.
"It’s impossible now..." Void Spirit raised the hand that held Jiang Ling to eye level. I saw wisps of green smoke rising from my palm. Although I felt no pain, I could sense through the smoke that my hand must be severely burned.
"This sword seems to become heated due to excessive power release. Given the current temperature of this sword, if you continue attacking like that, your hand will likely be ruined."
With that, Void Spirit grabbed my sleeve and tore off a piece to wrap around the hilt of the sword, alleviating some of the heat emanating from it.
Looking back at the distant creature, both of its arms and half of its body were already being drawn into the massive orb created by the Slash Mark. Its body was continuously being consumed by this sphere...
Just as it seemed the creature would be completely swallowed by the orb, it suddenly began to shrink rapidly.
Void Spirit sensed something was wrong and quickly turned back to scoop up the trembling Yellow Dog from the ground, channeling power into its legs to sprint away at high speed.
"What’s happening?! Why are we running? Isn’t the creature suppressed?" I asked.
Void Spirit replied, "Didn’t you just feel how powerful that last attack was? You know it could probably destroy an entire city; how could it have such little effect…"
Before finishing their sentence, a blinding light erupted behind us, accompanied by a tremendous shockwave and explosion.
In a critical moment, Void Spirit spotted a city drainage cover nearby and stomped down hard on it, causing it to collapse before leaping into the opening without hesitation.
As we jumped in, I felt the ground shake violently as if an intense earthquake had struck. The roar of the explosion echoed above us relentlessly...
Time seemed to stretch indefinitely as the sounds of explosions faded and the tremors around us subsided. The Void Spirit, cradling the Yellow Dog, leaped out through a drainage hole.
In that split second of jumping out, I was stunned. The buildings that once surrounded us had completely collapsed, transforming into a heap of flesh and debris, while the massive creature now stood in the distance with only its upper half remaining.
“Did we… did we kill it?” I asked in astonishment.
“Not that easily,” the Void Spirit replied, tightening its grip on Jiang Ling. It suddenly swung towards the remaining half of the creature's body, unleashing a Slash Mark.
The power of this strike was worlds apart from the previous one, indicating that the Void Spirit had very little strength left. To unleash an attack like before would likely require all of its remaining energy.
As I pondered this, I watched as the Slash Mark approached the creature. Just then, its lower half trembled violently, and a mass of flesh and blood surged from the ground towards it. In an instant, before the Slash Mark could reach it, the creature reformed into its original shape and swiftly extended a hand to grasp the Slash Mark, crushing it to pieces in an instant.
The speed of this series of actions was astonishing; it was as if it had been completed in the blink of an eye.
Now restored to its original form, the creature lacked any discernible facial features and seemed unable to see us from afar. It relied solely on its senses to locate our position.
It swayed its massive body back and forth, slowly trudging towards us with heavy footsteps.
“It seems this thing really can’t be fought or killed…” the Void Spirit remarked.
Hearing this, an idea struck me. I thought about the Sheepskin Book I had just pulled out and said to the Void Spirit, “Since we can’t confront it head-on, let’s eliminate its essence directly. As long as it has no soul, it shouldn’t be able to reform.”
“You mean… with this book?” the Void Spirit asked, pulling out the Sheepskin Book from its pocket.
“Yes!” I replied. “Quickly find a place to hide for now; I’ll take care of what comes next…”
The Void Spirit nodded without further questions. After scanning the surrounding ruins, it chose a nearby building that hadn’t been completely destroyed and hurried over with the Yellow Dog in its arms.
Along the way, the dog seemed to sense that neither I nor the Void Spirit would harm it. It remained quiet and obediently nestled in my arms without causing any disturbances.
After a moment, we reached the dilapidated building. Inside was drenched in blood-red hues; walls and floors were littered with flesh and corpses, with pools of bright red blood collecting in uneven depressions on the ground.
“Now it’s up to you…” the Void Spirit said as it suppressed its own power and relinquished control of its body back to me.
After regaining my body, I felt the oppressive force from Jiang Ling within me had lessened significantly. Perhaps it was due to the excessive power released in that last strike.
Lost in thought, I set down the Yellow Dog I had been holding and fished out a small piece of bone from the bloody remnants on the ground.
With the bone in hand, I carelessly sat down and opened the Sheepskin Book, using the bone to dip into the blood on the ground to awkwardly write on the yellowed pages.
Since this was not a conventional writing tool and the bone was somewhat sharp, I wrote very cautiously, afraid of tearing the pages of the Sheepskin Book. This, however, directly slowed my writing speed.
Just as I was focused on documenting what had just happened, a sudden rush of footsteps echoed from nearby.
At that moment, being in a perilous situation, I was on high alert. Any slight movement made me tense up. "Is someone there?!" I whispered cautiously, quickly turning my head toward the source of the sound.
Upon seeing who it was, I was taken aback and instinctively stood up, involuntarily exclaiming, "Hu... Hu Fang..."
