"There's also the blood on you... what happened..." Hearing Yao Long's voice, I quickly wiped away the tears at the corners of my eyes and glanced around.
At that moment, I was sitting in the driver's seat of the car, with Yao Long in the passenger seat. In the back were Death Apostle, Hu Fang, and Li Zhisheng, all looking at me with incredulous expressions, as if they were staring at a monster.
"What is happening to me..." I muttered, looking down at myself. My clothes were already soaked with blood, and Jiang Ling, which had been tucked into my waistband, had fallen inside the car.
Then I looked out the window and saw that the area outside was filled with traditional houses. As my gaze slowly shifted from the side window to the front, I noticed a bloody Yellow Dog lying on the ground in front of the car.
Seeing this scene, without a second thought, I threw open the car door and rushed out. I ran to the dog and scooped it up into my arms.
The dog looked at me and slowly extended its tongue to lick my hand, which had been burned by Jiang Ling, letting out a weak "whimper," appearing to be on the brink of death.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid! I will save you! I promise I'll save you!" I exclaimed as I quickly got up and ran to the passenger side door. Pulling it open with one hand, I shouted at Yao Long, who was sitting there in a daze: "Hurry! Drive! To the pet hospital!"
Yao Long was bewildered by my urgency but scrambled into the driver's seat when he saw my anxious expression.
I jumped back into the car and slammed the door shut. Noticing Yao Long staring at the bloody dog in my arms, I shouted angrily, "What are you looking at? Drive! To the pet hospital! If that's not possible, just take it to a regular hospital!"
"Okay, okay..." Yao Long stammered in confusion and hurriedly started the engine before driving straight toward downtown without another word.
Anxiously sitting in the passenger seat, I gently stroked the Yellow Dog in my arms and whispered, "Hang in there, little buddy. We're taking you to the hospital; you'll be okay..."
The Yellow Dog let out a soft whine and struggled to breathe. It seemed to understand my words and was trying its best to hold on.
Silence filled the car as we drove with urgency. Finally, we arrived at a pet hospital. We all jumped out without hesitation and rushed inside.
"Doctor?! Where's the doctor?!" I shouted.
At that moment, a woman in a white coat came out. Upon seeing the Yellow Dog in my arms, she quickly approached to examine it. "You need to take it to the Examination Room over there," she instructed while pointing to a room on my left. Without waiting for a response, she turned and hurried off to prepare some tools.
I couldn't afford to hesitate, so I quickly rushed into the Examination Room with the dog in my arms and gently placed it on the bed in the center of the room. At that moment, the Yellow Dog on the bed was still barely alive, its blood-soaked chest rising and falling slightly.
Just then, the woman in white who had been there earlier entered in a hurry, accompanied by two men carrying a tray filled with medical supplies.
In the chaos, one of the men collided with Li Zhisheng, who was standing behind me, causing a knife from the tray to clatter to the floor.
Li Zhisheng hurriedly picked it up and was about to return it when, before he could say anything, they pushed all five of us out and told us to wait outside, promptly closing the door to the Examination Room.
Standing outside, I paced back and forth anxiously. At that moment, Death Apostle, who had been silent until now, spoke up. He walked over to me and asked, "Shen Xu, don't you want to tell us something? Why are you suddenly covered in blood? And what happened with that dog?"
Caught off guard by his questions, I found myself at a loss for words and countered with a question of my own: "What did you see?"
Death Apostle replied, "Weren't we on our way to Zunyi? We encountered a dog along the way, and you suddenly slammed on the brakes. When you came to your senses, you were already covered in blood, and that dog was lying in the middle of the road..." After finishing his explanation, he seemed to feel it lacked coherence and muttered something under his breath. His voice was too low for me to catch what he said, but it left me feeling puzzled.
"What?! We were on our way to Zunyi? Didn't we enter a tunnel?" I asked in confusion.
"Tunnel? Are you talking about that so-called 'Time Tunnel' you discussed with Li Zhisheng earlier?" Death Apostle inquired.
"Yes! So we never actually entered that tunnel at all?"
"No, we haven't even reached the city area yet..."
This only deepened my confusion. In my memory, we had indeed entered a tunnel once, after which time seemed to reverse and we returned to a point before that moment. Everything around us had been frozen in place.
Then we entered another tunnel again, but nothing happened. It was only after that that I noticed Li Zhisheng and Yao Long acting strangely, along with the appearance of Vengeful Spirits and monsters.
But now Death Apostle was saying that we had never actually entered that tunnel at all. How could all of this have happened? Did it have nothing to do with that so-called "Time Tunnel"?
At that moment, I couldn't think of any answers. So I decided to share everything that had happened since our first entry into the tunnel with them.
Afterward, not only I but even the Death Apostle began to feel somewhat perplexed. Li Zhisheng had been leaning silently against the wall by the Examination Room door, his head lowered as if deep in thought.
As for Hu Fang and Yao Long, they were even less inclined to help analyze the situation. Like me, they were worried about the dog inside the Examination Room.
At that moment, the door to the Examination Room opened, and three veterinarians in white coats—two men and one woman—stepped out.
Seeing this, I hurried forward to ask, "Doctor, how is it?!"
The doctor displayed a relieved expression and said, "It's fine. Although it's quite injured, fortunately, its vital organs are unharmed. With some rest, it should recover. However, it's still quite weak right now, so we hope you can let it recuperate here for a while."
"But we need to leave soon. How long will it take to recover?" I inquired.
The female doctor replied helplessly, "Injuries always require time to heal. Moreover, it has lost quite a bit of blood. You should at least wait for its wounds to heal for over a week. If it moves around too much before then, it could easily reopen its wounds, which would cause even more damage. I'm sure you wouldn't want to see that happen..."
