"Better negotiation methods... Are you planning to pry more information out of me? I'll tell you one last time, you should discuss this with my father; talking to me is useless..." At this point, the man known as Er Ye paused and said, "However, I can tell you about my name. They call me Er Ye because that's my nickname, given to me by my father. But over time, my subordinates started calling me Er Ye as well. I don't mind it; it sounds fine to me, so I didn't object."
With that, he turned his face toward the window and fell silent. As I realized my thoughts had been seen through, I didn't press further. Instead, I suppressed the anxiety and unease within me, repeatedly contemplating various possibilities in my seat.
The vehicle continued on its way for an unknown duration, and the light outside gradually dimmed. We stopped once to refuel, then drove for several more hours. By now, I had lost track of where we were.
Turning to look out the window, all I could see was an expansive plain stretching endlessly. Occasionally, there were some low hills, but they were nothing more than mere mounds of earth.
At this moment, I noticed that throughout our journey, aside from seeing people at the gas station, there had been no other signs of life. The only vehicle following closely behind us was a black sedan.
"Where are we actually going? How much longer until we arrive?" I asked.
Hearing this, the man named Er Ye glanced at his watch and muttered, "About five more hours. It looks like we won't make it in time for dinner."
With that, he leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes, showing no intention of revealing our destination.
Seeing this, I refrained from asking further questions for fear of irritating him. After all, judging by his demeanor, he seemed to be a significant figure within Yang Master. If I annoyed him here, I doubted I'd come out unscathed; it might even endanger my parents.
But what did the leader of Yang Master want with me? Did he intend to use me for something? But was that really possible? With their strength, they didn't need someone like me...
I kept questioning myself in my mind when suddenly a thought flashed through: Could this be related to why Sun Warrior Leader didn't kill me?
Realizing this made things clearer for me as I began to devise a strategy in my mind. However, since I wasn't sure if my guess was correct, I dared not make any rash decisions; everything would have to wait until I met Sun Warrior Leader...
Silence enveloped us as the car drove for another five or six hours before finally stopping in front of a remote desolate mountain. The mountain before us was covered in lush vegetation and had completely darkened with the fading light; its full shape was obscured from view, only vaguely outlined by the car's headlights.
The mountain wasn't very high, resembling the hills seen along the way, but this one seemed to have been blasted open on one side, creating a gaping hole several dozen meters high. Below the gap, flickering yellow candle flames illuminated a pair of dark metal double doors, casting an eerie shadow.
"Is this the place? You all live in this creepy spot?" I asked as I got out of the car, rubbing my sore backside and thighs from the long ride.
Er Ye heard me but ignored my question. Instead, he called to a few burly men who had followed us from the black sedan, slowly making their way toward the large door at the mountain's opening.
Seeing this, I didn't press further and followed them ahead. The atmosphere was heavy with silence as the men and Er Ye walked on.
At that moment, I was too anxious to care about their expressions; I just wanted to see my parents and ease my worried heart.
After a moment, we arrived at the door. Er Ye instructed the men to open it, and before me appeared a long tunnel made of Brown Brick. The entrance was about five meters wide and sloped downward, disappearing into darkness. On either side of the walls, two rows of torches were neatly arranged. The burning torches sent waves of charred scent wafting from the tunnel, making the air thick and stale.
Er Ye and the men seemed unfazed by this; they appeared accustomed to it and stepped inside without hesitation.
I followed closely behind as we descended. As I ventured deeper, I felt the air grow colder around me, with chilling winds blowing directly against my face.
"Why is it getting cold? There are torches all around..." I muttered to myself while tightening my clothing.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling cold already?" Er Ye seemed to have heard my thoughts as he turned back to me. With his words came a gust of cold air from his mouth, indicating just how low the temperature was.
"Are my parents really here?!" I didn't answer his question but instead shifted the topic, asking cautiously.
"Don't worry; I've already been here. Dad just invited your parents over for a chat. There's no need to be so tense; relax..." He smiled at me and reached out a hand as if to pat my shoulder.
I hurriedly stepped back and said, "It’s best that you do, otherwise, even if it costs me my life, I will never let you have your way!"
Er Ye's smile immediately froze upon hearing this. He stopped in his tracks and, with a sinister expression, said to me, "Now that you're here, it's no longer up to you. You'd better put away your boring schemes, or else... not only you, but your parents won't be able to leave here alive..."
As soon as he finished speaking, a loud bang echoed from behind us, seemingly the sound of a massive iron door closing.
I remained unfazed and replied in the same tone, "Since I agreed to come with you, I never expected to leave safely. If I'm going to die, I will definitely take you down with me..."
"Good, you have guts, but I wonder how long that courage will last you..." Er Ye smirked, revealing a strange smile before turning around and continuing on his way.
I followed behind him, sensing that his words carried hidden meanings that were difficult to decipher at the moment. However, one thing was certain: this person named Er Ye clearly knew why the Sun Warrior Leader had brought me here, but he had no intention of telling me.
Knowing this, perhaps Er Ye could become a good breakthrough point. With his "help," I should be able to uncover the true intentions of Yang Master...
