At that moment, I felt a warm liquid trickling down my neck. "Has she been crying?" I thought to myself, and then I comforted her, saying, "This won't be the last time you help me. There will be many more things you need to assist with, so stop saying silly things."
Hu Fang rested her head on my shoulder. She didn't say anything, just gently nodded.
Beside us, Li Zhisheng and Death Apostle exchanged glances. Li Zhisheng spoke to Death Apostle, "Should we step outside for a moment?"
Hearing this, I quickly pulled away from her, feeling a bit embarrassed as I looked at Hu Fang, whose cheeks were flushed and eyes shimmering with tears.
"Alright, stop crying. I know you want to help us. But I don't want you to get into danger," I said as I raised my hand to gently wipe away the tears from her eyes. Then I changed the subject, "You were practicing Void Spirit earlier; what was that about? Although I know there's some kind of Void Spirit power hidden within you, the origin of this Void Spirit..."
"Come inside; I'll explain everything slowly," Hu Fang said as she gestured for me to enter the room. Meanwhile, Death Apostle and Li Zhisheng stood at the doorway, looking uncertain.
"What's wrong with you two?" I turned back to look at them and asked in confusion.
Li Zhisheng cleared his throat a couple of times and said, "Death Apostle, why don't we go back and take another look at Divine Anomalies Classic? There's really nothing for us here."
Upon hearing this, I realized there was more to Li Zhisheng's words than met the eye; it seemed he had misunderstood something. So I quickly explained, "What are you talking about? It's not like we're doing anything shameful!"
"What are you thinking? I have nothing going on either; I just thought it might be better for you two to be alone together," Li Zhisheng replied.
Death Apostle chimed in quickly, "Yeah, let's go check out Divine Anomalies Classic. Who knows what new discoveries we might find? We'll wait for you to finish your conversation before we come back."
With that, Li Zhisheng and Death Apostle turned and left in unison, leaving only Hu Fang and me in the room.
The atmosphere, already somewhat awkward, became even more so after their departure. I found myself at a loss for words. However, Hu Fang did not show the same shyness as before; instead, she calmly said, "Shen Xu, do you remember when I told you about my grandmother?"
Hearing her voice, I walked over to Hu Fang, who was sitting on a stone bench, and sat down beside her. After a moment of reflection, I said, "You once mentioned that you have a grandmother who loves to travel. Did she come to visit you?"
"Actually, my grandmother... she has always been by my side, watching over me. I only recently found out it was her..." Hu Fang choked up at this point.
"You mean the Void Spirit inside you is your grandmother?!" I asked in surprise. "But that doesn't make sense. When we first met, you were possessed by Vengeful Spirits and Evil Ghosts. If your grandmother has always been protecting you, how could you have been possessed?! And even if she only attached herself to you later, how could you not know it was her?"
I fired off several questions in one breath, leaving Hu Fang at a loss for words, unsure of where to begin.
"At first, when I learned about this, my reaction was the same as yours," Hu Fang thought for a moment and said. "My grandmother told me that she and my grandfather were once part of the Yin Master, but they grew tired of the conflicts between the Yin Master and the Yang Master, as well as the actions of the Yin Master itself. So they escaped together."
"But later, the Yin Master found out about this and sent people to investigate. They even planned to kill my grandparents if they couldn't bring them back."
"Left with no choice, my grandparents had to change their names and live in hiding on the outskirts of the city to evade the Yin Master's pursuit and lead a peaceful life."
"They thought they could live like this for the rest of their lives, but then I met you. At first, my grandmother was still alive when I encountered you. But gradually, it seemed she realized I was in danger. So she used a special method to take her own life and transformed into a Void Spirit to find me, quietly lurking within me."
"I think that's also why I was initially possessed by Vengeful Spirits, only for the Void Spirit to appear inside me inexplicably."
Upon hearing this, memories of my past with Hu Fang flooded my mind. I recalled the incident at the amusement park when we were in danger; it seemed that someone from the Yang Master had been there. Hu Fang's condition was indeed unique. I surmised that it was because her grandmother transformed into a Void Spirit after Hu Fang was captured.
When Hu Fang was captured, she did not have the Void Spirit, which is why they were suspicious. The oddity that Li Zhisheng noticed after rescuing her likely stemmed from the same reason.
Thinking this over, I didn't interrupt Hu Fang, allowing her to continue her story.
"At first, I didn't feel anything unusual at all. But later on, when I started having uncontrollable reactions, it made me realize that there seemed to be a presence of the Void Spirit within me. However, my grandmother didn't show any signs or tell me directly; she wanted me to stay out of it. Moreover, she didn't want me to know that she had passed away because she didn't want to see me sad..." As she spoke, tears streamed down Hu Fang's face once more.
"I know... I actually know everything... All of you are protecting me, and yet I can't do anything. I don't want to be like this; I hate myself for being useless. So now, I need to find a way to learn how to use the last bit of power my grandmother left me. At the very least, let me truly help you all once..."
Suddenly, an intense chill radiated from Hu Fang, piercing straight into my bones.
I couldn't help but shiver and quickly grabbed Hu Fang's hand. "You don't have to do this. I know you want to help us, and that intention is enough. Look, your grandmother sacrificed herself to protect you; you know she didn't want you to get involved."
"In the end, this whole situation started because of me; it really has nothing to do with you. You don't have to risk your life for this..."
Before I could finish, Hu Fang lifted her eyes and stared directly at me. "What about you? Didn't Mo Shu Senior also tell you not to hold grudges? But you're still seeking revenge. You can do what you believe is right; why can't I? Just like what you were discussing earlier about good and evil—though I'm not sure who is right or wrong—I just want to do my part for the people I love. Is that not allowed?!"
I was left speechless, lowering my head as I felt her grip tighten around my hand.
"I..." I was about to respond to Hu Fang's feelings when suddenly, a shout came from outside: "Shen Xu! Come out and take a look! The secret of the Divine Anomalies Classic seems to be unraveling..."
