Tao Star Nine Souls
Throughout the journey, none of us spoke a word, and the atmosphere in the car remained heavy. After a while, I parked in front of the partially collapsed Yangshi Base.
At this point, the fuel gauge was flashing red, indicating that we were running on empty. It seemed impossible to use this vehicle for our return trip.
We three got out of the car and stood beside it, gazing at the bodies lying at the entrance of Yang Master. A mix of emotions surged within me, but there was no time to dwell on that. I shouted towards the entrance of Yang Master, "Er Ye, get out here! Your grandfather is back!"
As soon as I finished speaking, a crisp sound of clapping echoed from within the broken doors of Yangshi Base. The sound grew closer, and soon Er Ye appeared, dressed in black, casually applauding as he walked out.
"I knew you would come back, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. How's your body? Don't make excuses about not being fully recovered if you lose," he taunted.
Hearing Er Ye's mocking words only fueled my anger; I wanted nothing more than to rush at him and tear him apart right then and there.
"Enough with the nonsense! I'm here to make you pay for your life!" With that, I awakened the power of Void Spirit within me, ready to charge at him for a final showdown.
However, just as Void Spirit surged back to life inside me, I felt strange images flooding my mind—some were familiar from when I had merged with Void Spirit before, while others were entirely new.
Among these unfamiliar images was one person who appeared in every scene: the man in white whom I had seen during my first fusion with Void Spirit.
"Who is this person... wait, I think I know him... yes! I must know him; why can't I remember..." My initial fury was disrupted by this sudden interference, causing me to pound my head with my hands in frustration.
Noticing my distress, Hu Fang hurried over and grabbed my hands to stop me from hitting myself. "Shen Xu, what's wrong? Is your body still not fully recovered?"
The Death Apostle also stepped forward with concern etched on his face, checking on my condition anxiously.
At that moment, although the power of Void Spirit within me was immense, it began to spiral out of control due to my mental turmoil, thrashing wildly inside me as if trying to break free.
"What are you doing? If your body isn't well yet, don't push yourself. Should I give you some time to rest? Or maybe have someone take you back?" Er Ye said mockingly before waving his hand dismissively.
Suddenly, dozens of Yang Masters surged out of the main gate, their metallic weapons glinting ominously in the moonlight.
"Go on, take that sick gentleman back home..." With a command from Er Ye, the group of Yang Masters brandished their blades and charged towards us.
Among them, there seemed to be different ranks of Yang Masters; some even unleashed the power of the Void Spirit, their hands radiating with red and blue light.
Seeing this, I cursed under my breath, desperately trying to control my power to fend off the attack. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to harness it.
"Damn it! If only I had tested it before we set off! What is going on? How could this happen?" I lamented, stomping my foot in frustration.
"Don't worry, I'm here! While you've been with the Yang Masters, I've been busy too. Now let me show you what I've accomplished!"
Hu Fang released her grip, and a powerful gust of wind erupted from beneath her feet. Suddenly, there was a loud bang as a blood-red flame enveloped her entirely, sending chilling waves of cold air radiating outward.
Seeing this, Death Apostle quickly pulled me aside and said to Hu Fang, "I'll take Shen Xu to safety; you hold on tight!"
Hu Fang turned her head and replied, "Protect Shen Xu!" Then she dashed towards the charging Yang Masters.
At that moment, Death Apostle brought me to a safer spot and anxiously examined my condition. "Didn't you try using the power of the Void Spirit before? How did it suddenly turn into this?!"
"I... I don't know. Back then, I didn't fully awaken the power of the Void Spirit; I just sensed its presence. Could it be... could it be that my body can't handle this power because I've lost the Nine Star Diagram?!" I gasped for breath as I spoke.
"It seems you were too hasty. If only you had more time to rest, perhaps this wouldn't have happened..."
"Heh..." I forced a bitter smile. "I actually think it has nothing to do with time. Even at Shidao, I wouldn't recklessly use the power of the Void Spirit. Knowing I'd have to battle Er Ye, I'd definitely conserve my strength. So I'd only use it when facing Er Ye directly, but just at this moment..." Before I could finish my sentence, a surge of power crashed against my body. If I hadn't exerted all my effort to suppress it, my body would have likely shattered into pieces.
"Then can you not withdraw the power of the Void Spirit again?!" Death Apostle asked.
"Right now, just suppressing it has taken all my strength; there's no way I can put it back to sleep..." With that, I slowly leaned against a pile of stones behind me, trying to keep my body as relaxed as possible in order to calm myself and soothe the restless power within me.
"Things are really not going well. I came here seeking revenge, but who would have thought I would become a laughingstock instead..." I mocked myself in pain, while my gaze fell on Hu Fang who was fiercely battling ahead.
At that moment, Hu Fang was no longer the same. Her mastery over the Void Spirit and her control over power were on an entirely different level.
"What has Hu Fang been doing while I was away..." I sighed, watching as she was surrounded by several Yang Masters. Suddenly, she seized one of them by the neck, lifting him up while using her other hand to deflect his weapon. Then, using his body as a shield, she burst out of the encirclement.
Just as she broke free, Hu Fang seized the opportunity to leap into the air, rapidly gathering power in her palms. She aimed for the center of the crowd and dove down with great force.
With a thunderous boom, a blood-red light spread out in a semicircle, sending the group of Yang Masters scattering in all directions.
Some of the weaker Yang Masters, unable to withstand the powerful impact, were torn apart in an instant, reduced to mere chunks of flesh.
"How strong! Is she... really the Hu Fang I once knew?"
