As I was taken aback, Hu Fang's figure appeared amidst the gradually dissipating crimson light. She was surrounded by dozens of Yang Masters, yet they hesitated to strike and instead began to retreat.
"A bunch of useless fools! What are you afraid of?!" Er Ye exclaimed, his agitation evident as he stepped toward Hu Fang, drawing the Azure Spirit that had once belonged to Yao Long from behind him.
"Wait, isn't that Yao Long's bow?!" Death Apostle gasped in astonishment.
The bow emanated a dark aura in Er Ye's hands, and even the dragon carved on its body seemed to take on a fierce demeanor.
Having fought alongside Yao Long multiple times, I was well aware of the power of the Azure Spirit. Moreover, Mo Shu had removed its restrictions, making it hard to imagine what kind of strength Er Ye could unleash while wielding it.
"Hu Fang, be careful! That bow..." I wanted to warn her, but the overwhelming power of the Void Spirit surged within me, preventing me from finishing my sentence.
Seeing the situation unfold, Hu Fang seemed to sense the impending danger. She crouched low, positioning her right foot behind her for quick movement. In a swift motion, she bent down and picked up a sword from among the corpses, raising it defensively in front of her.
"Come at me! I'm not afraid of you!" Hu Fang declared.
Er Ye scoffed at her words and raised the Azure Spirit, aiming it at Hu Fang. "Oh, I know you're not afraid of me, but are you afraid of death?!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a pitch-black arrow coalesced on the Azure Spirit and shot toward Hu Fang with a whoosh.
The arrow flew so swiftly that not only was Hu Fang caught off guard, but even the Yang Masters beside her had no time to react. Two Yang Masters who stood in front of Hu Fang were struck through the head before they could comprehend what was happening. Meanwhile, Hu Fang had raised her sword in defense just in time; she hurriedly lifted her hand to block the arrow.
In an instant, there was a sharp clang as Hu Fang's sword shattered into two pieces upon impact. The arrow pierced through the broken sword and struck Hu Fang in her right shoulder.
"Ah!" Hu Fang screamed as her short sword fell from her hand. She clutched her injured shoulder with her left hand and staggered back two steps.
"Oh? Did I miss?" Er Ye remarked casually, slightly adjusting the angle of his aim with the Azure Spirit while preparing another arrow. It seemed he intended to finish Hu Fang off with this shot.
"I won't let you kill me so easily!" Hu Fang gritted her teeth against the pain and steadied herself. Seizing the moment before Er Ye released his arrow, she charged toward him.
At that instant, I suddenly felt a powerful force rapidly approaching my position.
"You have guts... but you're reckless!" Er Ye growled as he prepared to release the arrow from his bow. At that moment, Hu Fang was directly in front of him and rushing toward him. If he shot that arrow now, not only would Hu Fang be in danger—so would I, sitting nearby—without any guarantee of escaping unscathed.
“Hu Fang, no!” I shouted with all my might.
In that critical moment, a man's voice suddenly rang out, “Stop!”
Upon hearing the voice, Hu Fang hurriedly halted, and Er Ye was taken aback as well, retracting the arrow from his bow and turning to look at the source of the sound.
“Li Zhisheng?! I thought you…” Hu Fang said, somewhat surprised.
Li Zhisheng appeared in view alongside Mo Yun and a young assassin. He glanced around and said to Hu Fang, “The flavor is not bad, but remember to use less salt next time. And Shen Xu, you really are something else, letting a woman fight for you while you hide here resting. Where did all your bravado go before we set off?”
“Do you think I want this? If I could control the Void Spirit, I would tear that beast to shreds right now!”
Li Zhisheng chuckled, “Just kidding, don’t take it to heart. We’ll hold on for you until you can kill him yourself!”
Er Ye burst into laughter upon hearing this. “I was wondering who it was. Do you really think you can defeat me just because of your Soul Burial? Dream on! By the way, didn’t the Divine Envoy go looking for you? Why haven’t they come to help? Oh, I know! They must think that even if they helped you, it wouldn’t be enough to win, so they chose to run away! Hahaha!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a woman’s voice came from above. “Who ran away?”
Looking up, I saw that Gu Kai and a mysterious woman had somehow appeared in mid-air. They crossed their arms in front of their chests and hovered above, with Gu Kai still carrying the black Ancient Blade on his back.
“You… when did you arrive?” Er Ye asked, showing signs of fear as his voice trembled slightly upon seeing Gu Kai.
“Hmph, you couldn’t even sense our presence and still have the nerve to boast. Let me tell you, it’s not that I can’t defeat you; it’s that you’re not worthy of me stepping in,” Gu Kai said disdainfully.
“What did you say?!” Er Ye replied angrily.
“Didn’t hear me clearly? Let me say it again: You’re not worthy…”
“Shut up! I’ll show you whether I’m worthy or not right now!” Er Ye seemed provoked and shifted his target towards Gu Kai and the others.
With that, Er Ye raised Azure Spirit swiftly and concentrated a massive amount of power into an arrow. At this moment, due to the overwhelming force he infused, he directly activated the spirit within the Black Soldier and infused that into the arrow as well.
The power condensed in Azure Spirit had now exceeded several times what Yao Long used; even I wasn’t confident I could block it without getting hurt.
"Die!" Er Ye shouted, releasing his grip on the bowstring. Instantly, a streak of black and white light shot straight toward Gu Kai's face.
"There's a limit to arrogance, you know. Can't you understand what he's saying?" The mysterious woman appeared in front of Gu Kai in the blink of an eye. With lightning speed, she extended two fingers and caught the arrow shot by Er Ye between them. With a slight exertion of force, she snapped the powerful arrow in half, turning it to dust that scattered into the air.
Witnessing this scene, even though they had seen Gu Kai fight against the Void God before, they were astonished by the stark difference in power between him and Er Ye.
"Do you understand now?" The mysterious woman clapped her hands and said, "If all you want is to kill someone, there are plenty of people right in front of you that you can target. We won't stop you from killing whoever you want; however, I won't let you touch the God King."
She then returned to Gu Kai's side and glanced at Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang on the ground. "Alright, that's all I wanted. You may leave."
Er Ye clearly felt unwilling but was left with no choice. He aimed the Azure Spirit once more at Hu Fang.
Grinding his teeth, he said, "In that case, I'll just kill you first..."
