Under Amy's guidance, Lin Yu successfully entered the sinkhole.
Amy told her not to underestimate this miniature aircraft; it is a cutting-edge weapon that is hard to defend against. Laser devices are installed at both the front and back of the aircraft, specifically designed to deal with Mutant Creatures.
Amy also revealed another shocking secret—inside the sinkhole is the Tough Guy Training Ground. This is where Seed Players are promoted or eliminated. Anyone entering the sinkhole as a Seed Player must voluntarily sign a Life-and-Death Contract in accordance with the rules of the Tough Guy Training Ground.
Lin Yu was curious about how the sinkhole was formed, but Amy apologized, saying she didn't know those details.
As they descended into the sinkhole and down through the Stratum, Lin Yu saw on the aircraft's infrared scanner that the lower Stratum was a series of steps, with granitic gravel covering the ground. The fluorescent walls were silvery yet dim... she wondered how Xiao Qiang and the others had entered.
Amy seemed to read Lin Yu's thoughts and quickly explained, "They didn't enter from here; this is a passage exclusive for aircraft."
Lin Yu was puzzled. "If Xiao Qiang and the others didn't come in from here, where else could they have entered?"
Amy didn't want to elaborate further. She retrieved some scant memories from the storage unit and displayed them on Lin Yu's visible screen: a terrifying incident had once occurred on a sunny afternoon when many Skeleton Mutants suddenly fell from the sky. The Tough Guy Training was forced to halt, and some scientists who were attacked by the Skeleton Mutants were left with no remains... this was after the incident with the breeding chamber explosion, involving the first batch of scientists who had moved in.
Ah!!! With Amy, one couldn't converse as freely as with humans. Lin Yu felt a bit regretful; astonished, she thought to herself: Skeleton Mutants falling from the sky? Since ancient times, she had only heard of rain, wind, thunder, and lightning falling from above, but never of Skeleton Mutants raining down. What a strange occurrence!
"Is the Tough Guy Training Ground safe now? Are there still Skeleton Mutants?"
Amy waved her clawed arm and replied vaguely, "No unknown information has been detected; I cannot provide an accurate report."
"If there's no unknown information, then that means there are no enemies." Lin Yu thought this way; in her opinion, nothing could be more terrifying than the Living Dead.
After being exterminated by Xiao Qiang, there shouldn't be any frightening mutated creatures left here. In the first half hour, that Professor R mentioned that danger was moving toward the DBL6 experimental base; it was merely an attempt to control her. They wanted to use her to find Xiao Qiang.
After their battle with the Living Dead, Lin Yu and Xiao Qiang realized that the Fourth Group's presence at the DBL6 experimental base for observation and learning was actually a poorly conceived ruse.
Thus, she and Xiao Qiang reached a tacit agreement to find a way to escape the control of Professor R and the tracking of the Nano Monitor.
Now that Xiao Qiang had successfully evaded the range monitored by Professor R's devices, they could only continue to distance themselves; returning would mean abandoning all their efforts and allowing Professor R to regain control over their freedom.
There was one more thing Lin Yu understood. The Core Headquarters had likely abandoned this isolated island. The purpose of sending the Fourth Group here, as Professor R had mentioned regarding the sinkhole, was likely to incite them to turn against each other, leaving one survivor to become their unstoppable weapon.
With Amy leading the way, Lin Yu encountered far fewer unnecessary troubles. She smoothly entered the passageway, accustomed to life in the Stratum, yet it was her first official entry into the Tough Guy Training Ground, which made her heart flutter with excitement.
Choosing a relatively spacious triangular area, they landed the spacecraft. With Lin Yu's assistance, Amy gracefully descended from the vehicle, turning her head and emitting a soft gurgling sound reminiscent of whispers.
"Scan complete; no enemy activity detected for now."
Lin Yu felt Amy was overly cautious. Since this was an abandoned training base by Core Headquarters, there shouldn't be any danger present. Following closely behind Amy, she looked around; their first stop should be the control room. Various connection systems were available there, and if Xiao Qiang and the others were efficient enough, they would have repaired and perfected the connection systems within the scheduled time.
In the control room, Wu Yi was becoming increasingly agitated. It felt as though two subconscious minds were coexisting within him, clashing against each other. He held his head in agony, crouching down and screaming in frustration, "Who are you? Why have you infiltrated my mind?"
The other subconscious responded as if it had a life of its own: "I am you; you are me."
Wu Yi grabbed a handful of his hair and pulled out a strand, nervously staring at its roots. At the base of his hair, he noticed a tiny follicle and suddenly burst into laughter. "Finally caught you!"
At that moment, a call came through from the Monitor intercom system: "Xiao Qiang, please respond."
Xiao Qiang? Wu Yi lifted his head; a blurry figure emerged in his chaotic mind. Stumbling forward, he rushed to the Monitor station and leaned over to look at it. A dark red glint flickered in his pupils as he stared blankly at the Monitor and said in a soft voice, "There is no Xiao Qiang here."
Outside the control room hatchway, Lin Yu paused slightly upon hearing Wu Yi's words. She looked at the shorter Amy beside her and asked, "What is this?"
"Don't rush, just watch Amy." Amy moved the wheels and slid to the side of the Gate. With a whoosh, a blue arc of light swept across, scanning for the activation code.
Then, to Lin Yu's astonishment, Amy successfully activated the Gate after nano-identity verification. A deep rumbling sound echoed as the Gate opened automatically.
The activated Gate startled Wu Yi in the control room. He nervously stared at the entrance, raising his riot Laser Flame Gun, and fired a burst at Lin Yu, who appeared at the door.
Those were laser flame incendiary rounds; even with three heads and six arms, Lin Yu would have no chance to escape.
Just as it seemed she was about to meet her end—Amy panicked too, muttering as she turned her wheels and hid behind Lin Yu—
But unexpectedly, as the incendiary rounds sped towards them, Lin Yu stood tall and fearless, extending one arm with fingers spread wide—like in slow motion, the incoming incendiary rounds halted abruptly just inches away, as if a scoop of water had been splashed and dissipated by an overwhelming force of telekinesis.
This scene not only stunned Wu Yi.
Even Amy was so excited that she began to wave her claw-like arms and break into a jazz dance.
Lin Yu couldn't understand why Wu Yi was shooting at her.
