Strangers are often unyielding, and this is the essence of the matter. Although the humans in the bar did not resist the unreasonable disturbances of the strangers with force, they were united in their shared animosity, standing together against the external threat. Fear lurked in their hearts, but they maintained a facade of calm, trying their best not to provoke the limits of these intruders, hoping they would leave soon.
Just as Xiao Qiang faced off against the people in the bar, tension thick in the air, an elderly man with a face full of wrinkles slowly emerged from a corner. His cloudy eyes disregarded the aggressive strangers but bore no malice. He approached Xiao Qiang and said, “Young man, the Fallen One comes and goes without a trace, killing invisibly. What can we do? Don’t forget that you were also raised by your parents; all we have from heaven is a shoulder to bear burdens and a mouth to eat. To fight the Fallen One with bare hands? Think about it! Sigh! Those with any ability have already moved away from here. The ones left are just honest folks who don’t want trouble…”
Xiao Qiang frowned; there was some truth in the old man's words. The Fallen One had mentioned that some humans colluded with them. Who knew if anyone here had connections with the Fallen One? In this world, everyone was on edge; who would want to bring disaster upon themselves? Hesitating, he decided to withdraw from the bar.
As he led Chixia and Redemption of the Fallen out of the bar, they nearly collided with a short man rushing in.
The short man was shouting frantically, “Not good!” To those around him, it seemed he completely ignored Xiao Qiang and his companions.
In reality, he wasn’t ignoring them; he was looking down as he ran, and due to his height, he had to look up to see anyone's face. Perhaps something urgent had happened that made him oblivious to these three strangers.
Chixia was furious and was about to confront him when Xiao Qiang stopped her.
The short man’s sudden entrance reignited the tension that had just begun to ease. Someone cursed him under their breath, but the old man called out calmly, “A San, you rascal! You’ve been missing for days, and now you come in here making a fuss—did your family’s hen finally lay eggs?”
The man named A San didn’t understand what was going on and retorted immediately, “Your family’s hen lays eggs! I’m here to tell you something terrible.”
Something terrible? As Xiao Qiang reached the door, he glanced outside at the still quiet streets. Slowing his steps, he listened intently…
The burly man who had been kicked away by Redemption of the Fallen wiped away some blood from his mouth just as Xiao Qiang and his group were leaving. With nowhere else to vent his anger, he glared and shouted, “Spit it out if you have something to say!”
“There’s been an incident at the hospital; a child has killed someone…”
“In these troubled times, that child shouldn’t have been taken in by the hospital,” someone sighed. “It seems we can’t even have a few peaceful days. Let’s go see what’s happening.”
"Child?" Hearing these people mention a child, Xiao Qiang's heart stirred, and he suddenly thought of Xiao Wu Yi. He had to go take a look. As someone exited the bar, he quickly darted aside, hiding in a dark alley. Then he asked Chixia where the hospital was.
"It's three streets away, just turn left."
"Alright, let's go check it out."
The three of them ran swiftly, sticking to the concealed alleys to avoid alarming too many people. Under Chixia's guidance, they didn't take long. When they emerged from the last narrow alley, they were greeted by the sight of a hospital.
If there was a place full of vitality, it had to be this hospital at that moment. The sounds of voices filled the air, as if many people were in an uproar; some were running, and others were calling for help.
In a dimly lit corner, a child stood at a window. Without hesitation, he leaped from the third-floor window... Coincidentally, Xiao Qiang had no intention of entering the hospital from the front; he happened to arrive here just as he was about to climb up the drainage pipe and saw the child jump down.
Perhaps due to not thinking it through before jumping, the child flailed his limbs in panic as he felt himself plummeting towards what seemed like death.
Below him was a flowerbed with some low shrubs; just beyond that lay a winding path for the visually impaired. A meter past that was the main road.
Xiao Qiang did not hesitate. He knew well that catching something falling from such heights was not easy. The force of the fall felt like it could crush anything beneath it; for an ordinary person, it could lead to severe injury or even death.
Just as he prepared to catch the child, suddenly a figure in black shot out from another dark corner.
The figure leaped into the air and caught the falling child without looking back at Xiao Qiang, then took off running.
By the time Xiao Qiang reacted and started to chase after them, the figure had already reached the main road. A car sped out... He cursed under his breath; it was too late.
The child was tossed into the car by the figure in black, who glanced coldly at Xiao Qiang before disappearing inside as it sped away. After chasing for a while, Xiao Qiang reluctantly stopped and tried to recall every detail. The figure's movements were too swift, yet there was something familiar about them—who could it be?
A shiny object on the ground caught his eye. He bent down to pick it up and examined it closely, balancing it on his fingertips. It resembled a medal, with an abbreviation of the letter 'R' inscribed on it. What could 'R' mean?
As he stared at the strange object, he cast his gaze into the distance, pondering: Could the child be Xiao Wu Yi? Who was that person who just appeared? If they were indeed sent by Professor R, then Professor R himself must be in the car.
If Xiao Wu Yi had truly fallen into Professor R's hands, then there was nothing to worry about. Wu Yi had grown up in Professor R's Mutant School, only to have their memories altered, unable to recall their childhood.
The barrage of questions made Xiao Qiang feel as if his head might explode. He tucked the strange medal into his pocket, his gaze lingering on the direction where the car had disappeared.
Chixia and Redemption of the Fallen quietly appeared behind him, following his gaze, but there was no sign of the car anywhere. Behind them, a large group of people surged forward, wielding sticks, brooms, and other makeshift weapons. They were shouting angrily, clearly mistaking Xiao Qiang and his companions for Fallen Ones.
If they didn't run now, when would they? Xiao Qiang hurriedly led the two of them to leap over the green belt, jumping several times until they finally dashed into an alley, managing to shake off their pursuers.
Once they entered the deep and quiet alley, they slowed their pace. Not far ahead lay a Drunk Man, sprawled across the alley and mumbling to himself, completely unaware of their approach.
The Drunk Man was disheveled and reeked of a foul odor. As Xiao Qiang frowned while passing by him, the man suddenly reached out with his filthy hand and grabbed hold of his pant leg.
No matter how hard he tried to shake off the Drunk Man, he held on tightly and refused to let go. This was turning into quite a spectacle; Chixia, irritated by the man's actions, raised her dagger ready to strike.
