Fang Shanshan was taking a shower. Every drop of water, filled with passion, kissed her fair skin, which glowed with a translucent, dewy sheen.
Outside the room, suddenly a figure emerged from behind the curtains.
Standing at the bathroom door was Nair, who politely stepped forward. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
In response, a fist struck Nair's face, causing him to lean back before bouncing back upright. Mechanically, he continued to ask, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Due to Xiao Qiang's mischief and the resulting malfunction of Karl, it was impossible to verify whether the Bionic Core had sustained any damage. Han Ming thought of Nair at Fang Shanshan's home and, feeling somewhat reluctant, decided to check on her again. After all, it wasn't his first time staying at her apartment.
The truth revealed by that punch was clear: Xiao Qiang was not human, but he wasn't a bad person either. Han Ming felt the need to warn Shanshan not to be fooled by his appearance.
Han Ming headed towards Fang Shanshan's place.
Meanwhile, Xiao Qiang continued to sleep, thinking that Han Ming would have many questions after the earlier incident. However, Han Ming remained calm and simply poked the spot where he had been hit without saying much.
As Han Ming was about to leave, he couldn't shake off his worries and cast numerous glances at Xiao Qiang with a complicated expression.
"Hey, don't worry. I'm here; there's no one else you don't know. I have nowhere else to go. If I wanted to escape, why would I come back?"
Han Ming silently nodded and walked out.
Inside the room, Xiao Qiang yawned, closed the door properly, and went back to sleep.
At this moment, it was late at night. The streets were noticeably quieter with fewer vehicles. A slightly drowsy Han Ming set the car to autopilot. His mind was filled with images of Fang Shanshan from many years ago when he had survived alongside her. They had not changed their old preferences and had gone together to see the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe—once magnificent and breathtaking tourist spots. Unfortunately, what he saw now was devastation; the beauty that lingered in his memory no longer existed.
Fang Shanshan's home was still lit, and Han Ming activated the wall-mounted garage door, smoothly driving the car inside. Looking up at the light seeping through the window, he secretly rejoiced. Could it be that Shanshan knew a way to return and find her? That’s why she hadn’t turned off the lights?
He entered the code and waited for access. A simulated female voice granted him entry, but as soon as Han Ming stepped inside, he sensed something was wrong. Nair was torn apart, her remains scattered across the floor. The furniture in the living room had been moved to varying degrees. Seeing all this made his heart feel like it was being violently twisted by something, causing a sharp pain, while his eyelids twitched involuntarily.
“Shanshan…” Han Ming cried out, nearly in tears. The house was empty, echoing his monotonous and lonely calls. Sweat poured from his pores, prickling his skin with an uncomfortable sensation.
I can’t lose Shanshan. Shanshan… my Shanshan. Han Ming wailed as he rushed toward the built-in surveillance equipment, desperate to pull up footage of Shanshan before the incident.
This surveillance system had been secretly installed by Han Ming when he helped design Shanshan’s house. Even Shanshan herself didn’t know about it because she disliked the feeling of being watched in her own home.
The surveillance footage flickered to reveal a pale, alluring face that looked anything but human. She emerged from behind the curtains, Nair executing the polite language programmed into her.
Nair was treated roughly and struck but still foolishly attempted to befriend her assailant. This was the robot he had designed—severely flawed… No wonder Shanshan’s parents disliked his robots.
Han Ming felt utterly helpless. Then he witnessed the most brutal scene unfold before him. An intruder attacked Shanshan while she was bathing.
A dark figure with flickering green patterns writhed and extended like a serpent's head. It coiled around Shanshan’s naked body, her fair skin starkly contrasting against the evil entity’s grip…
Shanshan was terrified but powerless to escape the entanglement. The intruder stared at her, maliciousness reflected in their eyes.
Shanshan was taken away…
Han Ming was completely defeated by the malicious hacker who had infiltrated the system; he collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably…
Xiao Qiang couldn't sleep after Han Ming left. He tossed and turned, feeling restless as if something was about to happen.
He closed his eyes, trying to calm his emotions and clear his mind of distractions. He wanted to get a good night's sleep because he had plans to go to the town with Fang Shanshan the next day.
The name Fang Shanshan suddenly popped into his mind, and he realized that the problem seemed to stem from this thought. As soon as he thought of her, images of entering Kabo Corporation flashed through his mind, followed by a chaotic series of scenes.
Robots self-destructing, a Female Robot aiming a gun at him, and Han Ming striking with a heavy punch. Suddenly, he sat up, throwing on his clothes without hesitation, and rushed to the door.
Opening it, he was met with darkness outside. After staring into the void for a while, a dim red light emerged. Xiao Qiang took a deep breath; his intuition told him that something must have happened to Fang Shanshan.
He saw cars speeding down the highway, but no one witnessed the extraordinary sight of someone racing against the sparse traffic on foot.
With whirlwind speed, he outpaced one vehicle after another. Xiao Qiang poured all his energy into running.
Han Ming called the police, and soon the sirens blared at Fang Shanshan's apartment. Police cars flashing red, white, and blue lights streamed into the apartment complex. Veteran officer Zhong Xuan arrived on the scene, setting up a red tape barrier to keep onlookers at bay.
It was inevitable that Han Ming would be implicated; he had tampered with the apartment's security system settings without authorization.
Inside the apartment was a mess, leaving little in terms of valuable fingerprints. Fang Shanshan's precious belongings were mostly intact, but the remains of the robot Nair were taken back to the police station.
On the surveillance footage appeared an enemy with a disguised face. No one knew what this mutated creature was; watching the footage sent chills down the spines of the officers as they exchanged glances. The chilling sight of its Serpent Head-like tentacles felt almost tangible, as if they were wrapping around them.
Xiao Qiang arrived too late; Fang Shanshan's home had already been sealed off, with no entry allowed for outsiders.
The old policeman, Zhong Xuan, learned from Han Ming that the suspect, Xiao Qiang, the vice president of Kabo Corporation, was at his residence. The police car roared to life again, flashing red, white, and blue lights as it sped towards Han Ming's location.
With Fang Shanshan in trouble, Xiao Qiang felt that it was inevitably linked to his own bail situation. Resolutely, he decided to head to the police station.
Han Ming felt anxious as the police car approached his home. Xiao Qiang's situation was concerning.
Just as they were thinking about it, Xiao Qiang appeared at the police station like a deity descending from the heavens.
He had arrived, turning a major issue into a minor one, and the police cars that had been dispatched were called back. At least old policeman Zhong Xuan felt relieved; there were many matters to attend to next, and if they didn't find Fang Shanshan's lawyer soon, retirement would be a distant dream.
Zhong Xuan went through the routine procedures. Han Ming was fined since he was also a relative of a victim. Considering this aspect, the police station handled it humanely, reducing the detention period from eight hours to five.
When Han Ming saw Xiao Qiang, the latter winked at him in reassurance.
The two of them explained the robot incident to the old policeman once again.
The outcome was predictable; he remained skeptical. Kabo Corporation was an international tax institution, and any mistake could lead to serious consequences.
