"Fei Ren instructed Xiao Qiang to put down the weapon in his hand, then turned to the robot and commanded, 'Take action.' The robot stood still, rigid and unresponsive. He then said to Xiao Qiang, 'See? It's fine, don't be sensitive. It's just a high-tech artificial intelligence system mimicking human will.'
Fang Shanshan quickly grabbed Xiao Qiang's hand that was gripping the iron rod and urged, 'Don't do that, stay calm!'
'He saved me.'
'What?' Fei Ren did not understand Xiao Qiang's words.
'You must be mistaken?' Fang Shanshan reminded Xiao Qiang. 'Isn't he Newborn NS? The third model? I remember you said the one who saved you was the old version, model two.'
Xiao Qiang's grip on the iron rod remained firm. With Fang Shanshan's reminder, he focused intently on identifying the robot.
Fei Ren continued to ramble about how the robot's first law was not to harm humans...
Suddenly, the robot made an unexpected leap and dashed out from above their heads.
Fang Shanshan and Fei Ren froze in shock as Xiao Qiang had already taken off in pursuit. The robot's unusual behavior further confirmed that there were clues regarding J's incident.
According to Fei Ren's estimation, all robots in the company belonged to Newborn NS? Model three. Therefore, Old Version Robots should not be present here. Perhaps the robot that saved him that day was actually NS? Model three, but that didn't make sense! Currently, there were numerous complaints about NS? Model three robots malfunctioning and violating the Three Laws; how could it possibly have saved him?
The robot ran incredibly fast, and with Xiao Qiang's physical exhaustion and unfamiliarity with the environment, he quickly lost sight of it after a short chase.
When Fei Ren and Fang Shanshan caught up, they found Xiao Qiang alone. It was clear that the robot had escaped. However, there was a straightforward issue: all robots in this facility, from prototype to finished product stages, had to undergo strict program management. This included quantity monitoring and system setup oversight; half-finished products typically wouldn’t appear anywhere in the company’s space.
Thus, this robot could only be hiding somewhere; that was the only way it could evade Xiao Qiang's pursuit.
'Where is the robot workshop?'
'Follow me.' Fei Ren seemed to sense the seriousness of the situation and no longer wore his previous smug expression. Discovering this in J's office indicated one thing: this robot was a sample designed privately by J, and it was a living sample.
It could blatantly violate the Three Laws and possessed consciousness remarkably similar to that of humans along with agile response capabilities. In other words, this robot was evolving; Xiao Qiang predicted its intelligence rivaled that of Nair."
They three made their way to the robot workshop, and after being authorized for entry, they found themselves in the semi-finished robot assembly area. The entire workshop was devoid of human operators; it was entirely robots manufacturing robots.
After traversing a narrow passageway that could only accommodate one person, they came upon another circular sensor-controlled door. Upon authorization, a massive control panel appeared before them.
Fei Ren stated that the data showing a production rate of 1,000 robots was displayed on this control panel. Beep beep beep—he pressed buttons to check the number of robots, sorting them in an orderly fashion as he waited.
Behind the giant panel was a spacious area where brand new Newborn NS-3 robots were neatly lined up. Fei Ren explained that these were merely hardware, equipped with systems set to the Three Laws, and could not be put into operation yet.
Fei Ren's jurisdiction included these Newborn NS-3 robots, so when he saw that there were unregistered robots appearing in J's Office, he felt more anxious than anyone else.
He dared not alarm Choke, even though he knew everything was under Rock's surveillance. However, as long as he could find the unregistered robot that had shown abnormalities within a short time, his job would be safe.
Fei Ren looked seriously at the robots and shouted, "NS-3 robots, one of you must have a problem. Now report your numbers one by one; the extra one is the rebellious robot."
Xiao Qiang found Fei Ren overly fussy. Gripping an iron rod tightly, he threatened the row of robots ahead, saying, "You are just a pile of scrap metal. Each of you is nothing but a wind-up toy or a broken light bulb. Do you think you can run rampant on Earth?"
"Come on, don't do that; you can't threaten them," Fei Ren said nervously as sweat dripped down his forehead. "They are all assets of Kabo Corporation. If you keep this up, won't they go bankrupt?"
Then he turned to Fang Shanshan with a conciliatory tone and said, "Things aren't as bad as Xiao Qiang thinks. Robots cannot harm humans; they are bound by the Three Laws."
Before Fei Ren could finish his sentence, Xiao Qiang punched him hard on the right cheek, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
Not satisfied with just hitting him, Xiao Qiang cursed angrily, "To hell with the Three Laws! Are you blind? Can't you see that some of them are already violating those laws?"
Fei Ren covered his aching face and slowly got up with Fang Shanshan's help while explaining, "That one just now wasn't produced in this workshop; it was from J..."
Xiao Qiang retorted furiously, "The First Law: A robot cannot harm a human? The Second Law: It must obey human orders? If an instigator can arbitrarily alter its laws, isn't that giving it an order? Isn't it?"
"Robots must obey humans, but they can only do so without violating the First Law."
"The Third Law states that in specific environments, robots can defend themselves? After being tampered with by an instigator, it can easily kill you. Wake up!" After finishing his words, Xiao Qiang swung the iron rod fiercely at the first robot standing in the front row...
"What are you doing?" Fang Shanshan and Fei Ren exclaimed in surprise.
The robot that had been knocked down with a single blow fell to the ground with a clatter, instantly becoming a pile of scrap metal. Xiao Qiang ignored Fang Shanshan and Fei Ren's questions as he fixed his gaze on the second robot.
Fei Ren was filled with regret, wishing he had never brought them to the robot workshop. Things had escalated, and now his position was at risk, along with the need to face the company's compensation terms.
At that moment, a robot identical to those lined up in the row leaped out from the last row. Xiao Qiang smirked inwardly; the target had finally revealed itself.
However, this robot was no ordinary foe. It sprang from the line and dashed forward, climbing through the air like a monkey. In an instant, it soared over their heads, grabbed hold of the alloy rolling door, and tore its way out.
The robot that had escaped was momentarily stunned. Perhaps Rock's surveillance had detected its anomaly, as the Kabo Corporation's Patrol Team had already been dispatched outside, waiting for some time.
With a series of rapid gunfire, the Patrol Team followed Rock's orders and opened fire on the escaping robot. The intense barrage targeted it relentlessly. The robot skillfully dodged the gunfire, rolling on the ground and executing a series of agile flips to evade the shots, then leaping up to climb onto the building across from them.
A military aircraft from BEL, with a dragonfly-like perfect form, also launched a fierce attack from above. Caught between two fronts, the robot continued to climb undaunted.
Xiao Qiang watched this scene unfold before him, feeling an inexplicable sense of loss. Suddenly, he realized he might have made a foolish mistake.
