Lao Cui thought his old friend was brooding over retirement, and with a hearty laugh, he said, "Old buddy, don't be so pessimistic. This is the world of the young; it's time for us to take a break."
"I don't think it's the young people's world; it's the robots' world."
"Hahaha, look at you, still acting like a cop. Remember when we charged into battle back in the army? You weren't such a coward then!" Lao Cui's robust voice rang out, and with another hearty laugh, he added, "Come on, let me show you something special."
"Old man, what treasure could you possibly have? Did you pick up a young lady?"
Lao Cui laughed heartily, "Close enough." Zhong Xuan was curious and puzzled; seeing his old friend so smug truly piqued his interest.
In Lao Cui's bedroom, a robot was charging on a wall-mounted charger—
Zhong Xuan took a closer look. "Hey! Isn't this Han Ming's robot Nair?" He turned to his old friend and asked, "What did you do to claim someone else's robot as your own?"
"Hold on, whose do you think this thing is?"
"It's my friend's; the robot's name is Nair... but it's strange because she went out with Han Ming. How did she end up with you?"
"I was driving my truck back and saw her lying by the roadside. At first, I ignored it; I thought it was better not to get involved. The truck passed by, but I couldn't shake the feeling and turned back only to find it was a robot. Damn it, robots are worth quite a bit, aren't they? So I picked her up and checked her out. Turns out she didn't have any major issues—just needed some energy. That's why I'm charging her now."
"Hmm..." Zhong Xuan was about to say something else when suddenly the alarm at Lao Cui's door began to blare ominously.
"I thought you were coming alone?" Lao Cui whispered. Zhong Xuan opened his mouth to say something, but he had already reached the door. Before leaving, he reminded Zhong Xuan, "It's almost time. Please turn off the power, activate the robot, and ask her what her name is."
"Okay." Zhong Xuan agreed and went to turn off the power and activate Nair. Just a few minutes later, a muffled sound like a silenced gunshot came from behind him, followed by a startled cry of "Oh no!" and the heavy thud of something falling to the ground.
Zhong Xuan felt something was off as he quietly approached the door. Peeking out, he saw his old friend lying in a pool of blood... A voice said, "There's one more." His heart raced violently as he quickly pulled back his head and turned to look for Nair—where was Nair's shadow? Damn! Who killed Lao Cui?
Zhong Xuan had no time to think further; someone was already coming in from outside, armed with a deadly weapon. Without a moment to spare, he leaped toward the back window, smashing it open and escaping.
Once outside, it was pitch black. Where was his car? Zhong Xuan stood there dumbfounded, feeling like cursing. At that moment, something came crashing toward him from the side—an Alpaca! He cursed and quickly dodged out of the way.
He couldn't tell what was inside the car—was it a person or a robot? Zhong Xuan couldn't see clearly for a moment. He felt bullets whizzing past him, above him, and behind him.
With no way out in sight, Zhong Xuan felt a pang of regret as he thought of his wife waiting anxiously at the door for him to return. And that useless cousin who hadn’t even settled down yet—his heart was filled with mixed emotions; he couldn’t just die like this. He desperately ran in the opposite direction of the attacking vehicle, letting bullets graze past him. Just when it seemed all hope was lost, he suddenly spotted his own car charging out from its hiding place.
Even more bizarrely, the car came right up beside him. Without thinking twice, he yanked open the door and dove inside. Looking closely, it was Grandma's Bear driving—not Nair!
There was a handgun under the seat for self-defense. He grabbed it and occasionally turned around to fire at the pursuing vehicle. Nair focused intently on driving while repeatedly saying, "Sir, please stop; you are threatening someone's life."
The car behind them was close enough that bullets hit their rear with dull thuds. Zhong Xuan shouted at Nair, "Shut up!"
"Sir, don't be nervous." She calmly recited commands set in Bionic Core while expertly maneuvering to avoid the pursuing vehicles.
From this, it was clear that Nair's will was struggling against Bionic Core, trying to transcend the Three Laws. However, her struggle stemmed from a desire to protect Zhong Xuan as she drove swiftly forward.
The cars chasing from behind lined up side by side. The two vehicles collided, pushing against each other, both trying to force the other off to the side. Inside the cars, the occupants continued to fire relentlessly at Zhong Xuan, indicating that someone was intent on eliminating him; his old friend was merely a scapegoat.
The cars moved forward in parallel, making a cacophony of clattering sounds as they collided. Nair focused on driving, maintaining speed and balance, doing everything possible to prevent the other vehicle from flipping them over.
Zhong Xuan gave Nair a thumbs-up for his driving skills but remained tense, raising his gun to deal with their attackers.
As the cars continued to crash into each other, they advanced together, the atmosphere thick with tension. It felt like a scene straight out of an action movie. Fortunately, Zhong Xuan never imagined that it would be Nair driving him away from this terrifying situation.
The two cars raced down the highway, with Zhong Xuan having no time to notice where they were; the chase had left him dizzy. His heart raced as bullets narrowly missed him time and again. Each time he dodged death, his mind went blank, unable to comprehend how he had found himself in such peril.
With each passing moment, both vehicles sustained significant damage. The car now relied solely on its spinning wheels; everything else resembled the wrecks in a scrapyard.
The sky was dark and still; Zhong Xuan felt drenched in sweat. His clothes were soaked through, and he had run out of bullets in his handgun. In despair, he closed his eyes and resigned himself to fate.
The headlights flickered like two massive pillars of light, illuminating a stone barrier fifty meters ahead. Behind the barrier lay the Desert Ocean that Zhong Xuan had mentioned. The gaps between the stone pillars were three feet wide, meaning neither car could pass through.
In their frantic pursuit, neither driver noticed the stone barrier ahead. In an instant, both cars hurtled toward it at full speed.
Bang! After a series of deafening crashes, both vehicles were sent flying by the impact with the barrier and flipped over onto their sides.
