Xiao Qiang couldn't believe that the woman he loved would abandon him for her own survival. Yet, the harsh reality was that on the battlefield, it was a world of brutality where the weak were preyed upon by the strong, and only the fittest survived.
The goddess had her reasons for stealing his multifunctional backup battery storage. She thought it was a waste to place the energy of the battery in the hands of a coward who didn't know how to navigate danger.
She remembered their time in the bathhouse, remembered their moments at the training ground.
The goddess was the chief commander of Tomorrow's Battle. What she intended to do was something no one could stop. Besides, in times of war, who would pay attention to the death of a rookie?
Thus, this death felt particularly desolate. He was swallowed whole by a Mimetic Organism that rolled out from the ground. It felt all too real; Xiao Qiang could genuinely feel his skin being corroded by the monster's acidic liquid, slowly rotting away.
When he woke up again, he forced himself back into battle but still failed to save Barbarian. However, Xiao Qiang had become more cautious, wary of the goddess's little tricks. His multifunctional battery had not been taken away.
Instead, he had truly saved the goddess. They found themselves trapped in a Transport Aircraft's cabin, surrounded on all sides by Mimetic Bionic Aliens.
But once again, he faced the grim reality of her death before him... It turned out that death could take many forms; everything seemed predestined. Why could he experience countless cycles of reincarnation? Gritting his teeth, he vowed to change this fate and save all members of Tomorrow's Battle.
Once more, he appeared before the goddess. With each cycle, he accumulated knowledge from his previous failures and searched for reasons behind them.
Time and again, he overcame setbacks and stood before her again.
The cabin was about to become the goddess's tomb. Xiao Qiang fiercely fought against the Mimetic Bionic Monster. Perhaps his earlier reckless actions had tarnished his image in her eyes, but as he fought valiantly and swept away the surrounding Mimetic Organisms with unstoppable force, breaking free from their encirclement, the goddess was left stunned.
"Don't be shocked! I’m actually this brave! Hurry and get us out of here!" Xiao Qiang shouted while continuing to unleash fire upon their enemies. "Look around! This place is like a Slaughterhouse! These bastards are treating us as prey to be slaughtered in batches!"
The goddess wore a complex expression, confusion written all over her eyes.
"Quickly follow me out of here!" Xiao Qiang yelled.
The goddess seemed lost in thought for a moment before suddenly saying to him, "This time, don’t rush to wake up. After you wake up, come find me."
The words lingered in Xiao Qiang's ears, followed by a deafening explosion as the cabin erupted in flames. Both of them were engulfed in the inferno, and he felt as if every inch of his skin was on fire, the scorching flames consuming him completely.
Xiao Qiang awoke from the expected nightmare; everything was as it should be. What was meant to happen did happen—inevitably punished, once crushed under a mech tank, and then awakened again.
He took a deep breath and told himself not to rush. Finally, he stood before the goddess as he had wished.
"It was you who called me here, Tomorrow's Battle," he stammered at the sight of her questioning gaze. "Slaughterhouse... the entire army was wiped out."
The goddess stared at him. "Follow me." They entered a back room, and Jack excused himself.
The goddess unfastened Chain...
Xiao Qiang snatched it away. "There's toxic mist inside; you can't look!" The goddess froze.
"My name is really Lin Yu."
"Absolutely true."
"In fact, I once had a similar experience when that Mimic Alien abducted me. It dripped a drop of blood into my eye, and then I could perceive their messages."
"What happened afterward?"
Lin Yu shook his head. "Nothing happened afterward."
"Wildfire, you need to help me."
Xiao Qiang looked into Lin Yu's eyes with determination, holding her slightly cool hand. "Tell me how I can help." He sensed that Lin Yu still harbored some doubts about him, half-believing his words.
"Help me win this war." Lin Yu withdrew his hand and forced a bitter smile. "My perception energy disappeared after a severe injury during an accident."
"How do you need me to help?"
Lin Yu frowned, clasping her hands behind her back as she circled the Nano Sensing Detector. Suddenly, she said, "I want to go to a place."
"What for?"
"To steal my memory storage chip."
Xiao Qiang knew she would have such an idea. "You don't trust me," he asked, a long-lost feeling of disappointment creeping into his heart.
Lin Yu shook her head. "It's not that I don't trust you; it's that I need it myself." She looked seriously at Xiao Qiang and warned, "What you've experienced cannot be told to anyone else. Otherwise, you'll end up in a mental hospital or undergo experimental dissection."
"They wouldn't believe me even if I told them."
"Let's go to that place now." As Lin Yu spoke, she turned off the nano-sensing monitor and led Xiao Qiang outside.
Jack didn't question Lin Yu and Xiao Qiang's destination; he simply reminded them to be careful.
The two hurried down the corridor. Lin Yu asked, "How many times have you died?"
"Countless times. I can't remember."
"What was the first time like?"
"The Barbarian had its head cut off, Liu Yi and the others went missing, and you killed a Mimetic Bionic Alien," Xiao Qiang recounted as Lin Yu walked quickly. "Hey, wait!" He had to jog just to keep up with her.
They got into a military jeep, which was not an ordinary vehicle from 2014 but a high-tech military model capable of maneuvering through extreme conditions—whether in high heat or severe cold, desert or snowy terrain, or muddy ground. It had a series of special capabilities.
Lin Yu took Xiao Qiang to a building that resembled a factory. They walked straight inside, where many people were constructing rotating Mimetic Organism props for training grounds and others were welding components for Mechanical Battle Suits.
Xiao Qiang wondered privately what the memory storage device had to do with what she was seeing and why Lin Yu had brought her here.
Lin Yu didn't provide much explanation as they continued walking through the factory complex. Xiao Qiang felt a sense of clarity; this should be the headquarters of the Vanguard Joint Defense Force.
The dark green walls blended seamlessly with the natural scenery, serving as a form of defensive camouflage. On either side of the beige staircase leading to the main entrance stood two imposing soldiers armed with live ammunition.
"No need to use the front door," Lin Yu whispered. "Follow me." Xiao Qiang understood that they were taking a circuitous route and intended to enter through the back door.
The back door was essentially a simple passageway. Lin Yu informed Xiao Qiang that she knew a doctor named Han Ming. She said Dr. Han Ming was skilled in mechanics and had considerable knowledge of life sciences.
Upon hearing this name, Xiao Qiang suspected she had misheard.
"You're not mistaken; he is indeed Dr. Han Ming."
He was Han Ming, his temples graying and his appearance aged, but his eyes still shone with vitality. Xiao Qiang paused for a moment, then reached out his hand. "Dr. Han Ming, do you remember me?"
