Although clones cannot replace the original, their every move is remarkably lifelike. Clone Li Hang strode into the Campsite with an imposing demeanor, raising his hand dramatically as he declared, "Fate is calling! In this world, we have only one task: to drive the Mimic Monster out of Earth." As he approached the members of N Team, he stood tall and straight, his sharp gaze sweeping over each member's face, ready for battle.
"Where's the rookie Wildfire?" he asked.
"He went to take a leak," Liu Yi replied.
Some team members stifled their laughter, but Clone Li Hang quickly turned to the snickering member and commanded, "You, go find him and bring him back."
The realism of the clone left Liu Yi confused. Is this person in front of me a real human or a clone? Under Clone Li Hang's subtle hint, the chuckling member hurried off to find Wildfire.
Clone Li Hang checked his watch; time was of the essence. "Liu Yi, keep a close eye on that kid Wildfire. He's on the blacklist and doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities. He's known for being timid, insecure, and cowardly." This was Li Hang's true opinion of Xiao Qiang, which inadvertently surfaced through the cloning process.
The clone lacked the original's restraint and energy; it simply said whatever came to mind. This was the fundamental difference between the clone and its original.
Meanwhile, Xiao Qiang's plane took off into the dim sky. Tensions ran high in the cabin due to Lin Yu's sulking.
"Hey, stop messing around! I have something cool to show you!" Wen Kai shouted as he suddenly pulled out a 75-centimeter-long gun from behind him. It had to be said that this weapon looked incredibly powerful and impressive; it could only be described as imposing in light of Xiao Qiang's awed reactions.
Wen Kai grinned proudly as he introduced it: "This is a new type of pow shockwave weapon. Its power is equivalent to ten grenades."
"With this thing, we can take down that damn Mimic Monster!" Wu Yi exclaimed excitedly.
"Don't celebrate too soon. The core of the Mimic Monster has a reset time function just like mine. So if you see a phosphorescent Mimic Monster, do not kill it! If it dies, its brain will immediately reset time, and we'll vanish without a trace—back to square one."
"And we won't remember any of this conversation," Wu Yi grumbled. "If that phosphorescent Mimic Monster tries to kill me and I don't fight back, wouldn't that just be handing my life over?"
"I don't get it," Wen Kai said nonchalantly, hugging his shockwave pow weapon with a grin.
Li Hang shot him a glance. "Of course you don't understand because you're one of those who thinks with your lower half. Regardless, we need to listen to Xiao Qiang. Don't let your emotions lead you into trouble."
"Come on! If I can't think with my lower half, what does that make me? That's nonsense! You're just an evil tease," Wen Kai retorted playfully.
Taking advantage of the moment, Xiao Qiang leaned slightly toward Lin Yu as the plane swayed gently. "Hey, you're making me feel wronged here. Even if I'm being sentenced, shouldn't there be a reasonable explanation?"
Lin Yu's face was icy. "Did you kill someone in 2038?"
"Of course I did. If I don't kill them, they'll kill me. They're soulless creatures."
"I'm not talking about vampires or the Living Dead. I'm talking about humans." Lin Yu ignored the curious glances from others, as if only she and Xiao Qiang existed in this space. "Yun, don't tell me you don't know her."
"I know her. What's wrong with her?"
"It's not about what's wrong with her; it's about what you did to her sister."
"I..." Xiao Qiang seemed to understand at this point, realizing that Wu Yi had spilled everything he knew to Lin Yu. He shot a fierce glance at Wu Yi, who lowered his head, only able to see the back of his MctcH Mech Suit's neck, avoiding her gaze as if feeling the sharpness of her stare. "She was set up by Professor R."
" Professor R?" Lin Yu raised an eyebrow. She initially thought it was just Xiao Qiang committing murder, but now Professor R was involved, complicating matters further. "What did he do to Feng?"
"Do you remember our accident? Wu Yi didn't know Feng and I were involved. He wanted to deal with Professor R, and you know how that turned out."
"And then?" The more complicated the story became, the more patience Lin Yu had to listen. She didn't believe Xiao Qiang was that heartless; if she didn't believe it, there had to be facts proving he was forced into it or had his own troubles.
"Feng was disfigured by Serpent Woman's venom in Area A5 and then encountered Professor R."
" Professor R swapped skin with her? That mad scientist actually wanted to use Feng to control you?"
"Smart. But you only know part of it. Feng... she wanted to replace you while being caught in a conflict. If she obeyed me, she'd betray Professor R, who had given her a second chance at life. Professor R wanted the Nanobots' Secret Recipe from Chain. Feng told me this before she died... she sought death... without evasion..."
"I understand now. Hmm... this isn't your fault. But Feng is quite pitiful."
Xiao Qiang nodded and tapped Lin Yu with his MctcH Mech Suit arm, pondering for a moment before looking at her with determination. "Don't tell Yun about this; she knows everything already. However, there's one more thing I must confess to you."
"Alright, I believe you."
Xiao Qiang smiled bitterly. "Who knows if we'll have another chance to communicate later?"
"Don't be pessimistic; you're the best."
"Well, actually a lot happened to me in 2038. I met the younger version of you and encountered a woman more pitiful than the wind. Her name was Chixia, and she was bitten to death by the Living Dead. I used my Ability to bring her back to life."
"That sounds risky. Her revival must pose a threat to you."
"Some things are indeed quite strange, not easily explained in just a few words. She came back to life and became my Puppet, obeying all my commands. However, she needs to regularly drink my blood; otherwise, she will grow weaker and weaker."
"I didn't expect you to go through so many dangerous situations in 2038. I feel helpless that I couldn't help you..." Lin Yu said with a hint of guilt, his eyes moist as he gazed at Xiao Qiang.
"Don't say that. You've suffered quite a bit here too," Xiao Qiang replied, casting a concerned glance at Lin Yu before addressing the others. "Once we go down, the Mimic Monster will quickly find out. Our people can't all go up together; we need two individuals to reach the high ground and assess the surroundings."
The transport aircraft had arrived over a certain city, which was roughly the territory of the Mimic Monster. The belly lights of the aircraft tilted down, illuminating the pitch-black Ground below. All around was enveloped in Darkness, devoid of any light—this place was entirely a dead city.
It was also an occupied zone by the Mimetic Organism. Large buildings loomed in the Dark as if waiting for something. The arc-shaped belly lights swept back and forth across the Ground, causing Xiao Qiang and the others to feel increasingly tense.
In that moment, no one dared to break the silence. They held their breath, staring at where the belly lights scanned. Once they confirmed a location, they would parachute down.
