The next day was Sunday, and in an effort to ease the tense atmosphere between them, Xiao Qiang specially prepared a sumptuous lunch for two guests: M and Luo Wei. 0

Lin Yu still felt a bit sluggish as she lazily got up, leaning against the doorframe and inhaling the delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen. Her stomach growled, prompting her to stride towards the kitchen. 0

Inside, Xiao Qiang was busy at work. Without turning around at the sound of footsteps behind him, he cheerfully called out, "Has my little kitty woken up?" 0

Lin Yu approached Xiao Qiang, wrapping her arms around his waist and whispering, "I'm sorry about last night." 0

"Did my little kitty have a nightmare? What happened last night? I've already forgotten," Xiao Qiang replied with a smile, playfully tapping her nose before swaying his hips exaggeratedly. "Go wash your hands and eat something good." 0

Lin Yu walked over to the sink, extending her hand as warm water sprayed out automatically. She said to Xiao Qiang, "M is going to a book signing event; we should celebrate her later." 0

"How long until they arrive?" 0

Lin Yu pinched a piece of egg pancake and popped it into her mouth. "About ten minutes." 0

"M is quite capable; she's a beautiful female author." 0

"Of course! It depends on whose friend she is," Lin Yu said, glancing at Xiao Qiang's expression. "Remember, just one shot per week." 0

"Okay, I'll remember that. Don't forget; I'm scared to death too." 0

With a playful demeanor, Lin Yu licked her fingers and added, "The problem is you won't die. You have regenerative abilities. When I have a head full of gray hair, you'll still be youthful. Tsk tsk! It's so infuriating." Then her expression changed as she continued, "Now hospitals are controlling the distribution strictly; those patients can only get one shot per week." 0

"Oh, what should we do?" Xiao Qiang asked anxiously, resting his left hand on the counter. 0

"I've made plans to go to her house. But it's over a thousand miles from here; her family runs a clinic." 0

"Alright, I'll accompany you when the time comes." 0

"Don't, I'll go alone. I don't want you to expose yourself and let more people know." 0

M and Luo Wei arrived, and the atmosphere instantly lifted. The usual silence was chased away by bursts of laughter from inside. The conversation began to revolve around M's book-selling event, and then it shifted to the current issues concerning the V2 virus carriers. M and Luo Wei expressed their sympathy for those affected by the V2 virus. 0

Luo Wei mentioned that due to the control of Vaccine Protein, there had been a lot of public disputes. In some areas, there were even riots among the populace holding differing opinions, particularly regarding the humane treatment of V2 virus carriers. 0

There were extremists who wanted to swiftly eliminate the V2 Zombie Virus carriers, while a significant portion supported the government's formulation of humane policies, establishing Recovery Centers for V2 Zombie Virus victims. 0

At this point, Luo Wei emphasized, "Especially now that a group of Masked Men has appeared around the virus carriers, their origins are unknown. The police have been unable to find leads and have deployed the Alliance Defense Forces, yet they still cannot capture these elusive Extremist Groups." 0

Luo Wei was indeed a well-informed person with extensive experience. He told Xiao Qiang and the others that the V2 virus had a history, and to trace its origins, one must mention the sensitive topic that authorities often restrict: Nuclear War. 0

Lin Yu and Xiao Qiang felt a tightening in their hearts upon hearing this. They paused their chewing, casually picked up their glasses, took a sip, and focused intently on what he would say next. 0

Luo Wei took a sip of his drink, ate a piece of food, chewed slowly, then elegantly picked up a napkin to dab at the corners of his mouth, signaling that he was about to begin his story. 0

"This isn't even the scariest part; the scariest part is our parents' desperate era." He cautiously glanced at M, his brow furrowed as if this were the main topic he wanted to discuss. He continued passionately, "Nuclear War—who among you has seen it?" 0

Lin Yu looked at Xiao Qiang; both shook their heads. 0

M shook her head as well, clearly unaware and uncertain. 0

Although Luo Wei appeared young, he was actually a whole decade older than M. Due to his age and social experience, his sharpness far surpassed that of Xiao Qiang and others. 0

He explained that the power of a nuclear bomb is primarily determined by its yield; 2 million tons is not the same as 200 thousand tons. Generally speaking, a single nuclear bomb today could wipe out an entire province like Hainan. To destroy Russia would only require five bombs with a yield of 2 million tons each. 0

On the eve of global war breaking out, five countries—the USA, USSR, UK, FRA—each dropped a nuclear bomb within enemy borders. When a gray-brown mushroom cloud began to rise, the tragedy had only just begun. 0

A group of citizens fled into an underground shelter that housed both adults and children. Around their refuge, what once were densely packed skyscrapers had become ruins. 0

The earth lay in utter silence, devoid of green and covered in a blanket of withered yellow. Those who witnessed the explosions during the Nuclear War became clinical test subjects in the aftermath of the nuclear blast. They suffered more than those who had perished; their bodies and genes underwent tremendous mutations. 0

They lost their sanity and attacked those who had managed to escape the Nuclear Radiation, who were hiding in basements. These survivors lacked water and food, struggling against the claustrophobia induced by prolonged confinement underground. 0

Among them was a doctor who had once served as a Field Doctor. He had nearly lost his life to a piece of shrapnel, and although he had undergone a lobectomy, he could no longer return to the battlefield. Under orders from his superiors, he was forced to retire and return home. 0

The doctor fled here with his child and wife, accompanied by two women and a tall, burly Long-Distance Runner. During their escape, they encountered those who had lost their minds and become subjects of nuclear experimentation. 0

In close combat, they had no choice but to find a basement where they could hide. This was their current refuge—a relatively sturdy structure with three stories above ground, now reduced to a precarious framework due to the devastation of the Nuclear War. 0

Among them were those contaminated by Nuclear Radiation, their skin beginning to rot and their emotions extremely unstable. Their only weapons against the outside world were kitchen knives and a Softball Bat. The Ground nearby was once a High-Level Softball Venue, a picturesque recreational area before the outbreak of the Nuclear War. 0

The attackers on the Ground were actually individuals mutated by Nuclear Radiation, having evolved into Zombies. Facing hunger and assaults from these Zombies, those in the basement were filled with dread, afraid to make any noise. 0

Their only sustenance was water; nothing else remained. The Nuclear Radiation on the Ground had not yet diminished, and Zombies roamed freely. They could only hide in the basement, waiting for the arrival of the Government Rescue Force. During this time, one among them fell ill. 0

The one who fell ill was an elderly man in his seventies, suffering from Asthma, Heart Disease, Hypertension, and other complications. That night, he departed from this world filled with pain, slaughter, fear, and darkness. 0
