In the year 2050, the V2 virus continued to spread, and experiments with Gene Protein had repeatedly failed. Due to the loss of control over the V2 Zombie Virus, many infected individuals fell into despair in a short period. Some patients, like Alexander, lost their mental stability just before the virus was about to erupt. They resorted to chaos in the streets, engaging in vandalism and other violent behaviors. Meanwhile, demonstrations emerged in various neighborhoods, with groups of friends and family protesting.
These demonstrators were deeply worried and urged the government and relevant authorities to come up with effective countermeasures. They demanded the development of a Gene Vaccine Protein to save numerous V2 Zombie Virus carriers.
Initially, Mukai did not inform Li Wen about encountering personnel from the International Alliance Talent Agency while visiting Lin Yu's home. However, unable to withstand Li Wen's persistent questioning, he reluctantly revealed the entire situation.
Li Wen understood what the International Alliance Talent Agency was and did not blame his old friend for his actions. His concern was for Lin Yu's current predicament. Later, he learned that not only was the International Alliance Talent Agency searching for Lin Yu, but two other mysterious groups were also looking for her.
The hospital had to close its doors due to the violent V2 Zombie Virus patients who stormed in, using needles to pierce their skin and then wandering through the hospital with contaminated syringes seeking revenge on doctors and nurses.
It was only after intervention from relevant authorities that these crazed V2 Zombie Virus patients were stopped outside. Although the hospital was closed, the laboratory remained brightly lit as they continued working on synthesizing Gene Protein.
On this day, the monitoring room of the hospital displayed two men—one tall and one short, one fat and one thin—who appeared quite flamboyant. They seemed to be at odds with each other as they loudly argued at the entrance, while the monitoring staff dared not let them in.
Behind these two men were two others wearing sunglasses. Li Wen was in the research lab, personally observing the monitoring screen alongside Mukai. The two men approached the entrance as if they knew where the surveillance cameras were located; suddenly, one of them stuck out his long tongue and made a silly face.
The other extended his arm, his fingers twisting like a spiral drill as he pretended to cut the surveillance lines.
At that moment, a burly man walked in from the right side of the entrance, seemingly affiliated with one of the men in sunglasses. He walked straight over and whispered something into the ear of one of them.
Under Mukai's astonished gaze, one of the men in sunglasses suddenly produced an enlarged photo. He held it up close so that it became clear that it was indeed the same photo previously shown to him by the International Alliance Talent Agency.
The photo featured Lin Yu alongside someone named Xiao Qiang.
Someone asked Mukai, "Doctor, what do you think they want?"
Mukai was equally perplexed; he had no idea who Lin Yu was or why so many people were searching for her. He shook his head and replied to his subordinate, "I don't know." Meanwhile, he pondered whether he should call the police. This place was a hospital that had not publicly disclosed its work on synthesizing Gene Protein vaccines.
He feared attracting too much attention since there were no defenses or presence from the Vanguard Joint Defense Force here.
It seemed that these people's noses were quite keen, as they had managed to sniff their way here. Mukai coldly observed the changes on the screen. One of the guys wearing sunglasses took them off, and upon closer inspection, he saw a shriveled old man. The old man was bald and had hardly any flesh on him, resembling a windblown broomstick.
The Shriveled Old Man approached the surveillance line, opening his mouth as if to say, "I am Lin Yu's adoptive father. I am worried about her safety and hope you will cooperate and open the door so we can ask you some questions."
In Mukai's eyes, although the Shriveled Old Man appeared frail, his spirit was anything but weak. His eyes were bright and full of energy, and his voice was loud and robust.
Lin Yu had an adoptive father? This was bad; it seemed they were in for trouble now that her adoptive father had come knocking. Mukai was secretly shocked and nervously connected with Li Wen.
"Adoptive father?" Li Wen sounded equally surprised; Lin Yu had never mentioned having an adoptive father in front of him. "What are they about? How many people are there?"
"They're not armed, but one of them has an exceptionally long tongue, somewhat like a lizard's tongue."
"That's too exaggerated!" Li Wen replied skeptically.
Mukai felt that his metaphor was not exaggerated at all. That guy's tongue had stretched out to at least a foot long; it was possible that it hadn't even fully extended yet.
"Visitors who aren't good-natured don't come here; you need to be careful."
Li Wen's warning was not wrong. Mukai nodded, saying, "Yes..." but his gaze remained fixed on the screen. The Shriveled Old Man who had taken off his sunglasses was speaking: they had a solution for the V2 virus.
"Wait a minute, they said they have a solution for the V2 Zombie Virus," Mukai said to Li Wen, filled with suspicion yet also anticipation.
"Don't be fooled. Who are they? Think about it; we are a professional medical institution and haven't been able to develop a synthetic vaccine for Gene Protein. As civilians, they are even less likely to have a good solution."
"They don't seem like civilians," Mukai noted as he saw the Shriveled Old Man pull out some kind of certificate. "They are Biochemical Research Doctors."
Li Wen fell silent for a moment before finally saying, "In that case, let them in and see what they have to say."
Mukai welcomed these unexpected guests.
The Shriveled Old Man introduced himself, "I am R, Lin Yu's adoptive father and mentor."
"Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you," Mukai said, looking at another man wearing sunglasses. The latter removed his shades and extended a pale, bloodless hand. "I'm Matt, a good friend of Lin Yu."
The others were Wen Kai, Li Hang, and Wu Yi.
Mukai continued, "You arrived a bit late; Lin Yu resigned not long ago and moved without telling anyone her final whereabouts."
"She hasn't gone far; she's somewhere on the outskirts of this city." R slowly surveyed the surroundings before fixing his gaze on Mukai's cheek and adding, "The solution to the V2 virus is to find Lin Yu's lover, Xiao Qiang."
Mukai was puzzled by what they meant.
Seeing the confusion on Mukai's face, Matt elaborated, "Xiao Qiang's serum is the antidote. By using his serum to create a synthetic vaccine, Gene Protein, we have a hundred percent guarantee of success."
Mukai could no longer remain calm. Lin Yu was missing, and her lover was supposedly the antidote? What should he do? Where could he find this living antidote that walked around on legs?
Professor R suggested, "You can hire bounty hunters." This idea was brilliant; privately hiring bounty hunters would avoid alerting the authorities.
