The spaceship successfully traversed the Cosmic Ruins Gorge, and as the sun set, night fell. Xiao Qiang missed Wu Yi and thought about Lin Yu, feeling restless and unable to sleep. The Robot Cat, which was as noisy as a crow, kept flitting around him, making it hard to concentrate.
Lingfeng was busy repairing the ship and couldn't spare a moment to talk to him.
Ajima had fallen asleep at the dining table.
"Hey, Ajima, go rest in the sleeping quarters. It's easy to catch a cold sleeping here." She was so tired that she squinted her eyes, trying to focus on who was calling her. When she realized it was Xiao Qiang, she shyly smiled, brushed her lips with her hand, stood up, and said, "Well then, goodnight."
"Goodnight." Xiao Qiang turned his attention back to Lingfeng.
Lingfeng turned to him as he entered and gave him a calm smile. "Not resting?"
"No."
"Missing your family?"
"Yeah." Xiao Qiang had something on his mind and replied absentmindedly.
"How long have you been in this place?" Lingfeng finally set aside his work, leaning against the co-pilot's seat with a weary body and an inquisitive gaze fixed on Xiao Qiang.
"I don't know. Maybe a few years, maybe several decades."
"Frozen?"
"Yes, frozen awakening."
Lingfeng smiled wryly. "I'm not as lucky as you. Do you know how old I am now?"
"Hard to guess." Xiao Qiang found it strange that Ajima had been curious about his age, and now Lingfeng seemed intent on steering the conversation in that direction. He couldn't help but feel a bit wary; it was always better to be cautious.
"I'm about to turn thirty," Lingfeng said with a smile, testing the waters. "If you were a hundred years old, then when you came here, I would still be a child."
"Do you remember what your parents looked like?" Xiao Qiang asked, surprised. If that were true, then Lingfeng might be one of the lost children from Noah's Ark or perhaps an Earthling who had been abandoned after birth in the Cosmic Star System. The latter possibility seemed more likely.
"I don't remember; I have no impression at all."
"Who was the first person you saw?"
"A stranded astronaut trapped in the Cosmic Star System." Lingfeng's expression grew serious, his face reflecting a complex mix of emotions as he continued, "He found me in a Garbage Heap; I was already lifeless in a Cryogenic Chamber."
"Well, what happened to him now?"
"He died a few years ago in an accident—crushed by space debris."
"I'm sorry." Xiao Qiang wanted to change the subject and deliberately glanced around the interior of the spaceship. "Is this what he gave you?"
"You could say that. I assembled this spaceship using waste materials from the Wandering Colony Star."
"Wow, that's impressive. Humanity's imagination is so rich that it leads to destruction," Xiao Qiang sighed, his admiring gaze lingering on Lingfeng's striking mustache.
Lingfeng narcissistically stroked his mustache and said proudly, "So, what do you think? The name 'Invincible Cool Handsome Guy' still holds up."
"Invincible Cool Handsome Guy?"
"Yep, that's me."
"Haha, interesting..."
A sudden noise interrupted Xiao Qiang's words. Both of them turned to see where the sound came from. Lingfeng stood up, walking and shouting, "Rajiv, what are you doing? You're making my spaceship look like it's been shattered into pieces!"
Robot Cat was busy cleaning up the mess on the ground, a large pile of brownish dirt. Xiao Qiang froze for a moment, slowly crouching down and saying, "No." He extended his finger and carefully picked up a handful of precious soil. Leaning back slightly, he looked at Robot Cat and Lingfeng and asked, "Where did this come from?"
Lingfeng was taken aback by Xiao Qiang's almost reckless behavior. After a long pause, he slowly approached and crouched down as well. "It's nothing much; if you need it, I can get you more."
Hearing Lingfeng's nonchalant tone, Xiao Qiang couldn't believe it. "Impossible! In the Cosmic Star System, there's no soil except for sand. Some star systems only have carbon compounds and gases. To find this kind of soil, there’s nowhere else but Earth."
"Don't forget, I'm also an Earthling," Lingfeng said as he grabbed a handful of soil, slowly closing his fingers around it. His bright eyes glistened with tears as he continued, "Even though I've never seen Earth, I love this kind of soil. I have to squeeze it every time before I can sleep."
"..." This was the essence of humanity; regardless of where one was, they still longed for Earth. Xiao Qiang emotionally held Lingfeng's hand. "Let me tell you stories about Earth."
"Yes, that would be great."
"Okay," Xiao Qiang replied, his eyes filled with longing as his thoughts drifted back to ancient times. A spherical image appeared in his mind. "On Earth, there are green plants, tall buildings, families, nations, friendships, and love."
"So beautiful..." Lingfeng gazed with yearning as if he could already see Earth and the humans living there through Xiao Qiang's vivid descriptions. "Then why?"
"Why what?"
"Why do wars happen?"
"..." Wars!!! Xiao Qiang found himself at a loss for words. It wasn't just wars in the Alien System; wherever there were humans, there were wars. Initially, it was conflicts among humans themselves, followed by bloody battles against mutated creatures driven by rampant viruses. Earth was already on the brink of collapse but still had to endure humanity's relentless pursuit of advanced weapons to counter the invasion of extraterrestrial beings.
Noah's Ark had finally been successfully developed but sparked panic and unrest among Extraterrestrial Beings. That night, countless people died in their sleep without knowing what had happened. Earth bore the sins created by humanity and was ultimately destroyed by the ambitious Blue Star Lifeform that sought to annihilate humankind.
None of this could be told to Lingfeng; at least while he remained unaware of the truth, he wouldn't develop any hatred towards the perfect image of Earth or the human beings living on it in his mind.
"Have you not answered me yet? Why must there be war?" From Lingfeng's eager gaze, it was clear he longed to return to Earth.
"It is the rapid development of human Aerospace Technology that shows signs of surpassing Extraterrestrial Beings. As a result, we humans on Earth will inevitably see an increase in our status and values in the universe."
"So the Blue Star System bandits have turned to murder?"
Xiao Qiang nodded. "It seems that way."
"Then, do you believe me?" Lingfeng's imposing aura and aggressive demeanor fixed on Xiao Qiang.
"...There's nothing I don't believe about you. Do you have any other questions?"
"Where is Noah's Ark? Can Earth really regenerate?"
"Well... I can't answer that. After separating from the Mother Ship, I fainted and lost consciousness."
"Alright, since you don't know the details, how can I help you?"
"I want to find my family..." Xiao Qiang hesitated, unsure whether to share the details about Noah's Ark with him. In the end, he abandoned that impulsive thought and prepared to search for Lin Yu and the children before discussing anything else.
