Knock, knock, knock. 0

Early in the morning, the sound of knocking echoed, and Shasha slowly woke from his drowsy state. 0

“Samal, could you open the door?” Erika's voice came from the bathroom. 0

Samal was Shasha's English name, chosen for convenience among friends. It meant "summer," which corresponded with his surname. He didn't mind the name; it was indeed convenient for calling him. 0

With a face still showing signs of sleepiness, Shasha opened the door, stifling a yawn that he hadn't quite finished. Standing before him was someone he thought should have arrived much earlier but had only just shown up now. 0

“It was hard to find your place, but I asked a few kind passersby, and they directed me here.” 0

It was the unknown mutant girl he had met while on a mission in San Francisco. He had invited her to visit his home in New York, and she had arrived two days later than he expected. 0

“I thought you would come by two days ago; I didn’t expect you to arrive now,” Shasha said, scratching his head. Just as he was about to say more, Erika emerged from the bathroom. “Is this your friend?” 0

The girl’s expression shifted slightly upon seeing Erika but quickly returned to normal, a gentle smile gracing her face as she replied, “Hello, I’m Jubilexin, but you can call me Li.” 0

Not one to turn away a smiling face, Erika paused for a moment before returning the smile. “You can call me Erika.” 0

At that moment, Shasha felt something was off about the atmosphere but couldn’t quite put his finger on it. 0

However, Erika’s questioning gaze prompted him to explain helplessly, “I promised to help her find a place to stay.” 0

Erika nodded. She understood the mutual assistance common among Chinese people and didn’t think much of it. Yet, as a killer by trade, she sensed an undercurrent of danger from this young woman. 0

As Erika turned back toward her room, Shasha gestured for Li to step inside. “Just wait a moment while I freshen up.” 0

The girl nodded, and just as Shasha walked into the bathroom, the door to Erika's room suddenly swung open. Erika slowly approached her, a warning glint in her eyes. "No matter what your intentions are, I hope you won't do anything to hurt him. Otherwise, I won't let you off easily!" 0

The girl found this inexplicable warning quite irritating. Just as she was about to retort, a sly smile crossed her face. "Don't worry, I would never hurt him. In fact, I'll treat him very well!" 0

Erika's expression darkened at her words, and the tension between them began to simmer silently. 0

As they held their standoff for a moment longer, Shasha emerged from the bathroom. The two women cleverly avoided letting him see their confrontation. "I'll take you to check out some rooms nearby." 0

The girl nodded and shot a triumphant glance at Erika. 0

Erika gritted her teeth but managed to smile. "Why don't I join you?" 0

Shasha, not suspecting anything amiss, nodded in agreement since Erika was more familiar with the area. 0

So, from a vantage point where he couldn't see them, their eyes met, igniting sparks between them. 0

During the house-hunting process, they weren't as confrontational. However, Erika was determined to keep the girl at a distance and only recommended places that were several streets away from her own apartment. 0

Though young, the girl had experiences beyond her years and quickly saw through Erika's intentions. Naturally, she didn't let Erika have her way and found some excuses, ultimately choosing a room right next to Shasha's. 0

"I can't believe we ended up as neighbors. But there's plenty of time ahead." 0

As Erika passed by the girl, she whispered in a tone only they could hear. 0

Meanwhile, Shasha remained blissfully unaware of the underlying tension. However, during the search for rooms, he learned the girl's full name—a name that was both oddly familiar and filled with potential for teasing—Li Qianhuan. 0

Thus, Shasha found himself with an additional ally who could be drawn in at any moment, as he was currently facing some trouble. 0

Ever since returning to New York, Shasha felt as if there were always a few pairs of eyes watching his every move. Even at work, it seemed like he was under surveillance. 0

This feeling didn't arise without reason; someone must have set their sights on him. 0

In the face of such circumstances, Shasha naturally kept a calm demeanor, acting as usual. However, he began to observe those around him discreetly. He dismissed Erika and Li Qianhuan from consideration; if they were responsible for monitoring him, then the act would be too theatrical. 0

While it might be difficult to spot the hidden watchers outside, he could certainly identify them within the company. 0

Thus, Shasha started paying close attention to the actions of those colleagues he wasn't familiar with. 0

Before long, he had zeroed in on a target—the boss's secretary, Kanna Malhos. 0
