Shasha's keen observation skills allowed him to notice the subtle changes in Lao Xiao's demeanor. He was almost certain that the elderly man knew something important. However, he understood that it would be difficult to extract the truth from him at this moment. After leaving a meaningful glance behind, he turned and walked away without hesitation.
Watching Shasha's retreating figure, Lao Xiao's eyes flickered as he lowered his head in contemplation. After a long sigh, he left the corner with his hands clasped behind his back, while other prisoners deliberately stepped aside as he passed.
To Shasha, this scene sparked curiosity about Lao Xiao's identity. He wasn't naive enough to think that these individuals were simply showing respect for the elderly; it was a sign of respect for status and position.
Glancing at the neglected Frank, Shasha shook his head, surprised by how convoluted the situation had become.
While Shasha was investigating within Desert Prison, other events were unfolding along their own trajectories of change.
Setting aside his identity as the King of Hell, he had already drawn attention to himself in the Dark World after using Liquid Snake's identity to beat up Spider-Man. The first organization to take notice was S.H.I.E.L.D., which operated like a city management authority within the Marvel Universe, never allowing any threats to go unchecked while also seizing every opportunity for recruitment.
Nick Fury sat in his office, reviewing information about Shasha's second identity. Compared to the thick stack of documents belonging to Peter on his desk, the file in his hand contained only a single sheet.
Frowning as he repeatedly scanned the simple data, Nick rubbed his furrowed brow and slowly set the document down.
This guy seemed to have sprung from nowhere—silent and unremarkable—yet he managed to take down Spider-Man upon entering the scene and then caused chaos at the New York Police Department before being thrown into jail due to a ridiculous drunken incident. No one knew his background or his intentions. Such a person was the most dangerous because no one knew what he wanted.
With a slow sigh, Nick thought it was fortunate that this guy was currently locked up and couldn't cause any trouble for now. With that thought in mind, he picked up another file regarding Peter Parker.
In contrast to Shasha, Peter was well-known; his parents had once been affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D. and had heroically sacrificed themselves. He was undoubtedly a person of good standing, and if there were any chance of recruitment, Peter would be the most likely candidate.
Initially, Nick had worried that Peter's pride and reluctance to give up his freedom would make him difficult to manage. However, with Liquid Snake's appearance, he saw a glimmer of hope for persuading Peter. He knew that Spider-Man likely needed strength more than anything else at this moment.
Thinking along those lines, he murmured to himself, "You want power; I can give it to you—provided you agree to obey."
He picked up the phone and dialed a number. "Colson, I have a mission for you."
Setting aside whether Spider-Man would join S.H.I.E.L.D. as an agent, Shasha's old friend, the long-absent underground emperor of America, Jin Bing, showed great interest in Liquid Snake.
It should be noted that Shasha's intervention had saved Jin Bing a lot of trouble. He had long wanted to teach that spider bastard, who had repeatedly sabotaged his plans, a lesson. Now someone had stepped in to help him out, even boldly causing a ruckus at the New York Police Department.
For someone with power who dared to do anything, Jin Bing admired them greatly. Unlike Nick's apprehension, he intended to recruit Shasha. The main reason was still due to Shasha's connection with Spider-Man, which had left him short-handed.
Almost eighty percent of the crimes in New York were caused by Jin Bing, making him a target for both the Grim Reaper and Spider-Man. They not only inflicted significant economic losses on Jin Bing's underground empire but also sent many of his subordinates to prison. Therefore, he hated them with a passion.
Previously, when Daredevil opposed Jin Bing, they had exchanged victories and defeats. After Daredevil stopped appearing, he thought there would be fewer nuisances like that in the world. Little did he know that when it rains, it pours.
Turning the cigar in his mouth, he took several deep puffs, thick smoke billowing from his lips and drifting toward a long bench near the window where a voluptuous brunette sat.
"Mary, there's something I need to discuss with you."
The brunette raised an eyebrow, her expression noncommittal.
No matter what was happening outside, it had nothing to do with Shasha inside the prison. Since his arrival, the dynamics within the prison had changed dramatically.
Before Shasha came to prison, there were three major factions.
One faction was composed of death row inmates—the most powerful group because they were already sentenced to death. Even if they killed someone in prison, it would only add another charge on top of their life sentences. As a result, many feared them and chose to follow their lead.
One faction is composed of several drug lords who, even while imprisoned, can manipulate their influence within the prison. Their subordinates are all individuals they arranged to enter the prison.
The last faction's leader, Shasha, is also acquainted with Lao Xiao.
Lao Xiao's imprisonment is shrouded in mystery; he seems to have been here for a long time, and his influence runs deep. Many inmates have intricate connections with him and have witnessed everything that has transpired in this prison.
His faction is quite diverse, as nearly anyone can receive his protection, making his power the most formidable.
Of course, there is also a group of neutral individuals who have been marginalized by the three factions and find themselves without a place to belong.
However, since Shasha entered Prison Three, all these neutral individuals have rallied around him. They understand that failing to do so would only make their lives in prison increasingly difficult.
Initially, Shasha intended to remain detached from these factions and focus on investigating the case. But it was clear that Lao Xiao was not someone who would easily divulge information. Being alone in prison was inconvenient; having someone to help gather intelligence was ideal. Thus, after careful consideration, he decided to take these individuals under his wing, including the Young Black Man known as Tock, whom he had previously interrogated.
