From beneath the truck, Shasha looked toward the prison's main gate, where long boxes were being unloaded. Even without opening them, she knew what was inside. She couldn't believe how bold these guys were, conducting their transactions openly at night. Were they so confident that no one would come back to investigate?
"The goods are all here. Do we need to check them?"
The leading guard shouted as the truck door swung open. A figure in a black robe jumped down and approached him. "Where's your Warden? I need to ask him something."
The guard replied respectfully, "The Warden is feeling unwell and has probably gone to bed."
"Is that so?" The robed figure leaned closer to the guard, a hint of suspicion crossing his shadowed face. "You seem unfamiliar. I've never seen you here before. Are you new?"
"I just transferred from Ohio this month," the guard answered calmly.
The robed figure nodded, seemingly dismissing his doubts, and turned to leave.
However, Shasha, hidden beneath the truck, realized something shocking: she recognized that guard. He had been right next to Lao Xiao, and at that time, she distinctly remembered he was a prisoner.
What on earth had happened in the prison? It seemed that things had changed since her departure.
As the long boxes were loaded into containers and the truck prepared to leave, one truck strangely refused to start, as if something was blocking it.
The driver jumped down from the cab and bent down to inspect underneath the vehicle. After checking the mailbox and finding nothing unusual, he got back in and tried to start it again, but it still wouldn't budge.
At that moment, a cold voice crackled through the intercom. "What are you doing? Hurry up and catch up!"
"My truck seems to be malfunctioning," the driver replied in frustration.
The robed figure fell silent for a moment before saying, "Call a repair company."
"Okay, ma'am."
Listening to their conversation from her hiding spot, Shasha smirked slightly. A repair would take at least an hour—plenty of time for her to slip into the prison and take care of her own business.
Though the prison gates were closed and appeared impenetrable, there was one place without any obstacles.
Shasha had previously discovered an old underground waterway leading from the square; it seemed to have been built thirty years ago.
This was once used as an Underground Air Raid Tunnel for the evacuation of prisoners and as a refuge. Due to the passage of time and its abandonment, many people were unaware that there was a route leading to the outside world.
At the sand dune, 00 meters from the prison, Shasha crouched down and tapped the ground, quickly locating the entrance covered by gravel.
Entering the prison through the tunnel, Shasha hid in the blind spot of a searchlight, observing the surroundings. The patrolling guards, despite wearing prison uniforms, were all former inmates of the prison.
It seemed someone was controlling this place! With this thought in mind, Shasha's first suspect was Lao Xiao.
At that moment, Lao Xiao was leaning against the door of a cell, seemingly waiting for someone inside to speak.
After a while with no response, Lao Xiao quietly said, "I know you are Walter's daughter. You want to take revenge on the Warden here. But I'm sorry, that guy can't die just yet."
The person inside the cell looked up, revealing Felicia's delicate features. However, she lacked her usual bright demeanor and instead wore a cold expression. "What right do you have to stop me? Do you know that if it weren't for you, I would have succeeded?"
"You have no idea who is responsible for your father's death. As your father's friend, I can't just stand by and watch you throw your life away," Lao Xiao sighed. "Young people shouldn't be so impulsive; you must act within your means."
Felicia scoffed in silence.
"Walter is already dead. His last wish was for you to live safely and happily. You wouldn't want to let your father's wish go unfulfilled, would you?" Lao Xiao continued, slowly rising. "If you truly want revenge, at least ensure you have the means to defeat your opponent. If you can deal with that mastermind behind it all, I wouldn't mind handing over this Warden to you."
Felicia furrowed her brow as she repeatedly heard Lao Xiao mention the mastermind. "Who exactly is this mastermind? Is she really as terrifying as you say?"
"Of course," Lao Xiao replied meaningfully. "Only those who have experienced it firsthand know what kind of power she wields. As an ordinary person, you will never be able to confront her."
Felicia fell silent for a long time before letting out a sigh.
"When you've truly thought it through, I'll let you out," Lao Xiao said leisurely as he left Felicia's cell.
At that moment, a figure quietly stood outside the cell gate. As Lao Xiao passed by, he couldn't help but speak up. "I never expected that you were controlling this place."
Lao Xiao raised an eyebrow. "Since you've already left, why come back?"
"Naturally to find out who is really pulling the strings behind all this." The figure slowly stepped out from the shadows, revealing Shasha's second identity: Liquid Snake.
Lao Xiao smiled silently and shook his head, saying, "You are still far from it."
"How would you know if you don't try? Strength is not absolute," Shasha replied calmly.
"You seek wisdom? Then let me ask you, how can you compete in wisdom with someone who has lived for thousands of years?" Lao Xiao chuckled. "Anyone who has seen her is already dead; only the fortunate can survive."
Upon hearing this, Shasha clearly noticed a hint of unwillingness flicker in Lao Xiao's eyes.
Just as Shasha was about to speak, Lao Xiao's expression suddenly turned serious. "Alright, take Walter's daughter and leave here. Wait until you are strong enough to do what you want!"
Although Lao Xiao seemed like he was nearing the end of his days, at that moment, Shasha felt a surge of aura emanating from him. Even though this aura was heavy and somber, it still commanded attention.
After giving Lao Xiao a deep look, Shasha stepped into the prison room.
