A battle that shook the nation gave rise to a name that struck fear into many.
Liquid Snake, the rising star of the underground forces, defeated the established power Magneto, leaving even S.H.I.E.L.D. at a loss. This left many feeling uneasy, including Shasha's old rival, Jin Bing.
From the moment Shasha defeated Magneto, Jin Bing knew that the balance between their two factions had been shattered.
From the accounts he heard from Mary and the news broadcasts, Jin Bing discovered several chilling facts.
No one was injured or killed; logically, when gods fight, mortals suffer. Yet, remarkably, there were no casualties at all?
Jin Bing understood Magneto's character well—he would wish for the demise of all humanity. If he cared about human casualties, it would be a miracle.
Thus, the outcome was clear: Liquid Snake intentionally controlled the result of the battle, likely to give the government and S.H.I.E.L.D. a way to save face and avoid public backlash for their incompetence.
Secondly, it seemed he had previously encountered an ambush by S.H.I.E.L.D., and his restraint in not killing was probably to avoid provoking them to the point of no return.
Thirdly, why did he leave Magneto alive? Perhaps he didn’t want to become a public enemy among mutants. Although he had killed a group of mutants before, those insignificant individuals were hardly worth anyone's concern.
Considering these three points, Jin Bing had to admit that Liquid Snake was quite adept at navigating these treacherous waters and had far-reaching plans.
Taking a deep puff from his cigar, Jin Bing suddenly felt his age. There’s an old saying: "The waves behind drive on those before." How true it was!
After this moment of reflection, Jin Bing needed to contemplate one question: how should he handle his relationship with Liquid Snake?
Historically, there could only be one emperor. Currently, that position belonged to him. Yet beneath his throne lurked a ravenous tiger eyeing him hungrily. What should he do? Either remove its fangs or risk being devoured.
Narrowing his eyes and pondering for a while, Jin Bing finally reached a decision.
However, Shasha was also contemplating this issue. To exchange for abilities, one must deal with the villain's Reputation. The best way to gain villain Reputation is to expand one's influence.
The previous negotiation results regarding balance would likely be rendered void.
Now, Jin Bing stood like a towering mountain between Shasha and Magneto's powers, and what he needed to do was to move it aside.
"Main Quest: Establish Yourself as King!"
"You now have the capital to become a ruler. The old king is in decline; it is time to declare your sovereignty and become the new king of America's underground forces!"
"Quest Completion Reward: High-level extraction chance, 500 Energy Points."
"Quest Failure Penalty: Randomly lose two abilities and forfeit all influence."
Looking at the failure penalty, Shasha couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine. This penalty could send him back to square one, meaning this quest had to be completed; he did not want to face such a consequence.
Thus, the top priority was to recruit followers; otherwise, how could he compete with Jin Bing in the future?
Jin Bing had three advantages. The first was that his influence had been cultivated over many years, with connections that were deeply rooted.
The second was that he had countless talented subordinates and lacked no manpower.
The third was that his forces were strong and well-equipped; in terms of underground combat, few could rival him.
And what about Shasha? His network was not as developed as Jin Bing's, talent was scarce, and he only had three meager subordinates while his stronghold was located in Canada—he had already lost before even starting.
Even so, Shasha remained undeterred; everything depended on human effort.
When he first arrived in this world, he was utterly destitute, even contemplating picking the pockets of drunken men.
But now? On the surface, he was the owner of the second industrial sector of the military industry, a star businessman.
In the shadows, he was a rising figure in the underground world, someone whom even Jin Bing had to treat with respect.
And it had only taken him half a year to reach this status.
Thus, his advantage over others was his youth, not to mention that he had a System by his side. How could he possibly lose?
Thinking of this, Shasha felt a surge of ambition. If he didn’t accomplish something great after coming to this world, he would be letting down his identity as a traveler!
Just as Shasha was lost in thoughts about his future plans, Jin Bing had already begun preparing to take action against him.
If he was going to act, it would be to eradicate all threats without leaving any traces behind.
Taking advantage of Liquid Snake's territory being vulnerable after Magneto's attack, Jin Bing unilaterally tore up the balance agreement and ordered his subordinates to invade Liquid Snake's territory en masse. In no time at all, there was an ominous trend suggesting he might occupy all of America.
Once, Jin Bing had looked down on the territories that Shasha had developed; now he was ready to reap the rewards without any effort—truly killing two birds with one stone.
When Shasha received the news, he was initially stunned but soon broke into a cold smile. This old fox was indeed quick to act. After some contemplation, he came up with a brilliant idea.
“Don’t act rashly for now; let them have those territories if they want them.”
Luke, Target Eye, and Frank looked at Shasha in utter confusion. They couldn’t understand why they would give away the territories they had fought so hard to claim.
Seeing the puzzled expressions on his three capable subordinates' faces, Shasha smirked slyly. “Tell me, if you eat too much, do you ever get indigestion?”
The three of them nodded upon hearing this, their minds gaining some clarity, yet they still did not fully understand.
"Those territories were originally seized by us. The previous group could only seethe in silence, retreating to the fringes to develop. Now that Jin Bing has taken residence, he cannot possibly distribute all his power among his subordinates. This undoubtedly gives that group an opportunity, and conflicts will arise."
"And once they start fighting, the local order will be thrown into chaos. With government pressure and police involvement, their effective forces will be weakened. In the end, when we step in, won't it save us a lot of effort?"
"This tactic is called advancing by retreating!"
What a clever strategy of advancing by retreating! The three couldn't help but gasp in astonishment; they had no idea how many lives would be lost, but the method of using others to do the dirty work was chilling.
At this moment, their gaze towards Shasha was completely different from before.
If they had once been intimidated by her strength, now they were captivated by her intelligence.
