"Run faster! You lazy bunch! Once you're on the battlefield, you'll know what it means to lose your life just by being a step too slow!"
Reina shouted at the soldiers of Xiong Bing Lian who were crossing the South China Sea. She was on a speedboat, accompanied by Monkey and Shasha.
The three of them didn't have to participate in training, which made Glen, Liu Chuang, and Zhao Xin envious.
Since their trip to Liangshan, they had truly awakened to their roles as warriors, with team spirit and camaraderie quietly forged among them.
There was also an amusing incident: Lianfeng, the acting commander at Giant Gorge, seemed to have some connection with Monkey. However, since the parties involved refused to discuss the matter, everyone could only bury their doubts deep inside.
Additionally, regarding Glen's Gene Activation Plan, Reina had tried to approach Rosa but was turned down. This left her feeling troubled; after all, only the person who tied the knot could untie it.
"Does activating the Gene require love? That can't be true," Shasha scoffed.
Reina rolled her eyes in response. "How would I know what those old ladies think about gene activation? Since they can only do it this way, we have no choice but to follow suit."
"But you've seen their relationship—one practically has 'I like you' written all over his face while the other doesn't even want to acknowledge him. What can you expect to happen between them?" Shasha couldn't help but laugh; their relationship was no secret within Xiong Bing Lian.
Reina sighed, looking troubled.
Monkey, who had remained silent, appeared somewhat dazed, as if recalling something from the past.
After training concluded, everyone was exhausted.
In the cafeteria, while they were eating together, they still sat separately by gender. Zhao Xin, the male gossipmonger, leaned in with a smirk and whispered, "Did you hear? It seems there's something going on that might involve you."
Glen looked bewildered. "Me? What could I possibly have to do with anything?"
"It seems like you have Gene in you," Zhao Xin's news was surprisingly well-informed, though no one knew where he had heard it.
Not to mention Glen who was lost in thought because of this news, Liu Chuang scoffed, "With his bear-like appearance, he might as well be a bird man. Have you ever seen anyone like him?"
Zhao Xin and the silent Cheng Yaowen glanced at Glen, then very tacitly averted their eyes. The way they held back laughter yet dared not laugh made the answer clear.
Now Glen was displeased. "What’s that supposed to mean? I’m nothing like a bird man! Where am I not handsome?"
"Yes, yes, yes, you're very 'cricket,' as in the insect," Liu Chuang waved his hand dismissively.
At this point, everyone in the cafeteria heard it; after all, this guy always made such a fuss.
A group of people burst into laughter, which made Glen furious. He glared at Liu Chuang, "After we finish eating, let’s have a one-on-one match. Are you up for it?"
"Scared of you? Not a chance!"
That night, after fighting with Liu Chuang, Glen was about to head back to his room when he saw Shasha waiting outside her room for him.
"Xia, what are you doing here?"
Seeing Glen's surprised expression, Shasha couldn't help but chuckle. "It's been a while since we had a chat alone. Interested?"
Glen nodded and followed Shasha to the shaded path of the academy, where it was quiet and devoid of other people.
At that moment, Shasha said, "I suppose you've heard the recent rumors about you having Gene, right?"
Glen waved his hand dismissively. "Those are just rumors. I know how capable I am."
Shasha stared at him intently until he felt uncomfortable under her gaze, then she said, "This is true."
Now Glen was genuinely surprised. Could it really be true? Did he actually have Gene? The news filled him with both shock and joy. Did this mean he could fly like that?
However, Shasha doused his excitement with cold water. "Don't get too happy just yet; there are conditions to unlocking your genes."
"What conditions?" Glen asked eagerly, his enthusiasm undeterred by a mere sentence.
"One word: love!" Shasha continued without waiting for Glen to process the condition. "In simple terms, it’s about the bond between a man and a woman, also known as romantic love. It must come from your heart and resonate within you. Ask yourself, is your love passionate?"
Glen couldn't help but recall the first time he met Rosa. Throughout this journey, it seemed he had been holding on for the sake of this goddess in his heart, which had allowed him to endure until now. He took a deep breath and nodded vigorously, "Yes!"
Shasha's lips curled into a slight smile. "Then think about it, release it, and resonate with your inner self. Reflect on the beauty of love."
Glen couldn't suppress his imagination. Unbeknownst to him, a pair of black wings quietly extended from his back. When he finally realized what had happened, he was initially startled but then filled with excitement. "Xia, how do I use these?"
"Just try to balance, like controlling your arms. Mimic a bird flapping its wings and lighten your body."
Following Shasha's guidance, Glen slowly lifted off the ground, excitement written all over his face.
The experience of flying for the first time was always awkward, but practice makes perfect.
As Glen soared freely through the air, another person joined Shasha's side.
"How did you do it?" Reina looked up at Glen and asked softly.
"On Earth, there's something called yy," Shasha said meaningfully.
Reina was momentarily speechless. Was there really such a method? It seemed her previous thinking had gone astray.
However, no matter what, with Glen becoming stronger and Xiong Bing Lian also growing in power, their chances of defeating Tao Tie had increased.
"It's coming soon," Reina sighed quietly.
Shasha nodded, remaining silent.
Reina turned her head to look at him; sometimes silence was more comforting than words.
