Wei Qi found it strange. He had already prepared himself for death, yet these guys unexpectedly retreated? They seemed to be in a panic, as if they had encountered some major trouble.
He hurriedly picked up a damaged telescope with one lens broken from his position and looked out. In the distance, explosions erupted from the Wolf Fleet Group like fireworks, followed by the deafening sound of the blasts reaching his ears.
Slowly lowering the telescope, Wei Qi stared blankly, murmuring to himself, "What on earth is happening? Is there another force here besides us?"
He raised the telescope again and saw the Wolf Fleet gradually retreating, the fighting slowly coming to an end.
Sitting down heavily on the ground, a wave of joy surged through Wei Qi's heart at having survived. But soon after, he was overwhelmed by sorrow for his fallen comrades. He didn't blame the late arrival of reinforcements; surviving was already a great fortune.
Meanwhile, after managing the evacuation of civilians, Rosa hurried to the left flank. What met her eyes was utter devastation. When she saw familiar faces lying silently on the ground, her legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed.
Guilt, self-blame, and sadness washed over her. Her eyes quickly reddened as tears welled up and streamed down her cheeks, dripping onto the ground.
Perhaps she would never forget this moment in her life—the consequences of her decisions.
Staring blankly across the battlefield, she imagined how they had fought against those brutal enemies. Their ultimate value had been to buy time for the evacuation.
Taking a deep breath, Rosa slowly stood up and solemnly bowed to the lifeless battlefield.
"Everyone, if you are watching me from above, I will make sure your sacrifices are worth it. Huaxia will overcome this crisis, and I, Du Rose, promise to shed my last drop of blood for this cause!"
Resolutely turning away, her wine-red hair flowed behind her as a single tear fell.
"Rosa!!"
The familiar call made Rosa and Huo Ran turn around. When she saw the limping figure approaching not far away, her face lit up with immense joy—it was Wei Qi! He was alive!
Wei Qi ran off, and aside from some minor injuries, he seemed to be fine. This made Rosa, who had maintained a cold demeanor throughout, finally show a smile. However, after smiling, guilt washed over her face. "I'm sorry, Wei Qi. It was my order; otherwise, the soldiers wouldn't have died."
Wei Qi shook his head at her words. He was a soldier through and through, and obeying orders was part of his duty. Moreover, Rosa's command was not wrong; given the circumstances, making certain sacrifices was indeed the right choice.
"Rosa, your orders were correct. The soldiers had no complaints because they all knew that behind them were defenseless civilians. If the defense line were breached, the casualties would be countless."
Rosa smiled bitterly at this. If Wei Qi had scolded her instead, she might have felt better about herself.
Clearly, Wei Qi understood Rosa's thoughts and didn't want to dwell on the topic any longer. "More importantly, there's something we should be concerned about. Aren't you curious how I survived?"
Rosa was taken aback and realized that under such intense combat conditions, how could Wei Qi possibly have come out alive? Had something unexpected happened?
Seeing the confusion on Rosa's face, Wei Qi revealed the answer. "The Wolf Fleet was ambushed!"
Rosa gasped and snatched the binoculars from Wei Qi's hands to look towards the mountains on the left. It was empty—where could the Wolf Fleet possibly be?
"What exactly happened? Who ambushed the Wolf Fleet?"
Wei Qi couldn't help but smile wryly at her questions. "I didn't see clearly; those guys retreated inexplicably."
After thinking for a moment, Rosa handed the binoculars back to Wei Qi. "You should hurry back and regroup with the others. I'll go ahead and take a look."
Considering Rosa's skills and abilities, Wei Qi nodded in agreement.
Then he watched as Rosa, clad in Dark Alloy Armor and with metallic wings sprouting from her back, soared forward. When she crossed over the mountains to reach where the Wolf Fleet had originally been stationed, she suddenly halted because she saw a familiar figure.
That figure was one that always appeared in her moments of despair, as if any problem could be solved as long as he was present—this had been true in Heishi, true in Giant Gorge City, and true before Holy Kaisa as well.
Feeling a sense of awareness, Shasha looked up from the wreckage of the ship, a smile unconsciously spreading across her face. "It's Rosa."
Shasha's voice finally stirred Rosa into action. In an instant, she leaped through space to stand in front of Shasha, her tear-filled eyes staring blankly at the somewhat disheveled Shasha. Ignoring his dirty clothes, she threw her arms around him tightly.
"Where have you been?" Her voice trembled in his ear. Always presenting herself as a strong woman in the military, she ultimately revealed her inner vulnerability. In that moment, she was not the Vanguard of Nox Star or the soldier Rosa of the Huaxia Army; she was just an ordinary girl.
It was the first time Shasha had ever been embraced so tightly by a woman, leaving him somewhat at a loss for what to do with his hands. Slowly, with a slight tremor, he patted her back and softly said, "I got better, so I came to see if you were all here."
Upon hearing this, relief washed over Rosa's face. Even someone as strong as him could get hurt; after all, Giant Gorge City had become a ruin.
They held each other quietly for a long time until Rosa seemed to come to her senses and blushed slightly as she released Shasha.
The two exchanged awkward glances, both feeling the tension in the air.
