At that critical moment, alarms suddenly blared throughout the base.
Beep beep beep, beep beep beep—the piercing sirens echoed in the corridor, causing everyone to instinctively cover their ears.
"What’s going on?" Claire frowned. "Which idiot activated the alarm?"
Before he could finish his sentence, a soldier rushed over in a panic, shouting, "Sir, it’s bad! The Infected have somehow breached our defenses and are already inside the base!"
"What?!" Both Claire and Raymond's faces turned pale.
Just then, a loud crash came from the main entrance. Following that were the sharp sounds of gunfire, the rising screams of agony, and the beastly roars of the Infected, intertwining into a symphony of death in this apocalyptic world.
The crowd instantly erupted into chaos—screams and cries filled the air. Some knelt in prayer, while others fled in terror; order had completely collapsed.
"Run!" I shouted to Sam and Hugo.
At that moment, a familiar figure stumbled toward me. I focused my gaze and realized it was the soldier who had been captured!
"Kid, take this and get out of here!" He shoved a USB drive into my hand, his face smeared with blood. "This contains all the truth; make sure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands!"
Before he could finish speaking, several Infected lunged at him from behind, their mouths wide open to devour him. The soldier turned to face them, engaging in a fierce struggle.
"Let’s go! We need to move!" I grabbed Sam and Hugo and sprinted in the opposite direction. Behind us, I could hear soldiers screaming; tears streamed down my face.
That Nameless Hero had entrusted me with the hope of survival. I must fulfill his wish and ensure that the truth is passed on!
We passed countless Infected Persons along the way, desperate to escape this hell on earth. Suddenly, a petite figure rushed into my view—it was Lucy!
"Lucy, come with me!" I quickly grabbed her hand.
"But, but brother, what about the others?" Lucy asked through her tears.
I crouched down and tightly embraced this kind little angel. "I'm sorry, Lucy. Right now, we can only save ourselves. But I promise you, one day I will come back to find the other survivors."
Lucy smiled through her tears and bravely nodded. And so, we burst out of the shelter and embarked on an unknown path of escape…

We trudged through the ruins of the city, unsure of where to go next. The most pressing concern was finding a safe place to hide, but the surroundings were a desolate sight, with very few buildings that could shield us from the elements.
After finally climbing a small hill and surveying the area, I spotted a well-preserved building standing amidst the wreckage. Its outer walls were an ominous shade of gray-black, emanating an eerie aura.
Upon closer inspection, I realized it was the GH Company’s Biological Research Institute!
"That’s where all the nightmares began," I murmured to myself, feeling both terrified and exhilarated. If there was any place that could hold the answers to the truth, it had to be this mysterious institute.
"Should we go in and take a look?" Sam asked nervously. "What if there are Infected Persons inside?"
"If we don't go in, we'll never uncover the truth," I gritted my teeth. "We've come this far; what do we have left to hesitate about?"
Hugo nodded in agreement, while Lucy clutched my hand tightly, her face filled with trust. With my companions' support, I felt an overwhelming sense of reassurance.
No matter how many dangers lie ahead, as long as we are together, nothing can stop our march forward.
