Thick smoke billowed from the pipelines, and sparks flew in all directions. A piercing howl erupted as it flailed its arms wildly, as if grasping for the last straw of hope. 0

"Die, monster!" I pulled the last grenade from my waist, yanked the safety pin, and with all my strength hurled it at the MOT-27. 0

The grenade flew true, landing perfectly in the crack on MOT-27's chest, and exploded instantly! A blinding flash engulfed the robot, its wails drowned out by the roaring flames. 0

It took a full ten seconds for the shockwave of the explosion to subside. All that remained on the ground was a charred wreck, emitting wisps of smoke. 0

I collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath. My mind felt numb, blank. Everything that had just happened felt like a nightmare, yet the bloodstains around me cruelly reminded me that this was harsh reality. Sam and Lucy were gone forever. And I was merely a survivor who had lucked out, destined to bear heavy shackles and struggle to survive. 0

"Matthew! Matthew!" Hugo's voice snapped me back to reality. He stumbled down the stairs and threw his arms around me, sobbing uncontrollably. "Thank goodness you're okay! I thought... Matthew, you saved us!" 0

I stared blankly at Hugo's tear-streaked face, unsure of what to say. Yes, we were still alive, but what did it matter? The apocalypse had come; the world had lost its color. We had lost friends, family—everything. In the end, we were just two abandoned children clinging to life amid the ruins. What was the point of it all? 0

At that moment, my hand accidentally brushed against something hard in my pocket. I froze and quickly pulled it out—it was the bloodied USB drive that the soldier had given me! Oh my God, I almost forgot; our mission wasn't complete! The secret that soldier and Professor Vincent had guarded with their lives was now in my hands! 0

"Hugo, look!" I trembled as I raised the USB drive, my gaze resolute. "Only by revealing the truth can their sacrifices be meaningful! We must survive; we must carry on their will!" 0

Hugo paused for a moment before tightly gripping my hand and nodding firmly. 0

With tears in our eyes, we bid farewell to Sam and Lucy, stepping out of that nightmarish base. As I set foot on this familiar wasteland once more, a surge of complex emotions welled up within me. It felt as if everything from the past was a distant memory, yet the joys and sorrows of yesterday remained vividly etched in my mind. Everything had changed, but I knew one thing would never waver: I would fight for the truth until my last breath. 0

I turned on my portable recorder, and the voice of Professor Vincent echoed from it—his final words. With his last ounce of strength, he detailed the conspiracy behind GH Group and their ultimate plan, leaving no stone unturned. It turned out he was the original architect of this horrifying scheme. By the time he realized the monster he had created, it was already too late. The company had threatened him with the lives of his wife and children, forcing him to comply. For years, he had suffered under the torment of his conscience, only finding the courage to reveal this shocking truth at death's door. In the recording's final moments, his tone was earnest as he implored us to stop GH's conspiracy and prevent humanity from facing annihilation. This was his last confession to the world and my eternal mission. 0

At that moment, I stood in the heart of this ravaged city, looking around at the remnants of what once was—a skyline filled with towering buildings and bustling streets now lay in ruins. All that remained were crumbling walls and wandering Infected Persons. This was our home; this was the end of civilization. Yet amidst this desolation, I seemed to catch a glimmer of light—a light belonging to humanity itself, a light of kindness, justice, and love. As long as this light persisted, humanity would always have hope. 0

"Matthew, where do we go next?" Hugo asked softly. 0

"We find survivors," I replied, gazing toward the distant horizon with unwavering determination. "We tell everyone the truth and ignite the flames of resistance. GH thinks they are safe, unaware that the seeds of justice have already been sown across the land. One day, humanity will unite, tear off their masks of hypocrisy, and make them pay for their crimes!" 0

Hugo nodded, his gaze intense. He raised his fist and bumped it against mine. "For Lucy, for Sam, for all the innocent souls." 0

"For humanity, for tomorrow," I whispered, gripping the cross that Lucy had given me. 0

The setting sun stretched our shadows long. Behind us lay countless pasts forged in blood. Ahead was a long, winding road leading into the unknown. I didn't know what tomorrow would bring, but I firmly believed that as long as there was a glimmer of hope in my heart and strength in my hands, I had the responsibility and duty to ignite the flames in more hearts. 0

One day, when all the lights connect as one, dawn will arrive. 0

At this moment, I seemed to hear Lucy's silver bell-like laughter once more. I knew she, along with Sam and all my departed loved ones, were watching over me from above. They had given me the most precious gifts—love and courage. And I would spend my life embodying them. 0

I held my head high and stepped forward into the unknown distance. Behind me, Hugo followed closely. The twilight cast its glow upon us and this scarred land. The earth had endured trials but would ultimately be reborn from the ashes. 0

The night would eventually pass, and dawn would come. As long as there was light in our hearts, humanity would always have hope. 0
