My grandmother shivered under my gaze.
Yet, she lifted her chin and looked down at me. "Xiao Ran, I'm doing this for your own good. At my age, what more can I do for you?"
I picked up the plate and dumped the dumplings into her hands. "No thanks, I don't want them."
With that, I slammed the door shut.
I heard my grandmother mumbling outside, "Good intentions wasted on a stubborn child. If you won't eat them, I'll just throw them out for the dogs."
I gripped the doorknob tightly, staring at the door. After a while, a cold smile crept onto my face.
Grandma, I'm waiting to see how you'll reap what you've sown.
On the morning of the interview, I found my grandmother had entered my room.
I didn't stop her; I just quietly watched her make a fuss.
She pulled out all my clothes and took them to the bathroom to wash.
In my room, I listened to the sounds of the washing machine.
Half an hour later, she put the clothes into the machine.
I guessed she had left and sleepily opened the door. "Mom, where are my clothes?"
My mom looked at me awkwardly.
My grandmother spoke up with tears in her eyes: "Xiao Ran, I didn't know you had an interview today. I saw your clothes were dirty, so I washed them for you."
I stared at her in silence.
Grandma continued on her own, "Xiao Ran, do you think I'm meddling? I won't do this again."
I shook my head. "It's fine; I wasn't planning on wearing those clothes for the interview anyway."
Her expression froze.
When my dad came home and saw the clothes in the washing machine, he exploded in anger.
"Cui Ran, what's wrong with you? Your grandmother kindly helped you wash your clothes, and this is your attitude?"
Grandma stood by, feeling guilty. "It's all my fault for meddling. Xiao Ran, I won't do this again."
I smiled. "Grandma, if you really want to apologize, just kneel down and do it. You're so old; I wouldn't mind at all."
Grandma's face turned pale.
My brother yawned as he came out. "Sister, how can you say that to Grandma? She's only trying to help you. You have an interview coming up, and she wants you to look clean and tidy."
"You should be grateful instead of blaming her."
I stared at them in silence.
After a moment, my brother pulled my clothes out of the washing machine and stomped on them a few times.
I finally spoke up, "That's the suit I need for my coming-of-age ceremony."
My brother's expression froze.
I chuckled. "If I don't pass the interview, you'll be fully responsible."
With that, I returned to my room.
Outside the door, I could hear my brother and dad apologizing to Grandma.
My mom sighed. "Xiao Ran, you know those clothes were intentionally soaked by your grandmother. Why did you have to say that?"
I smiled again. "Mom, the real show is just beginning."
By the time I changed into my interview outfit and stepped outside, they had stopped arguing.
My brother glared at me darkly.
I gave him a slight smile.
While I waited for my interview results, my brother was also waiting for his college entrance exam results.
Dad and Grandma had high hopes for him.
Three people stood together for a photo and posted it on social media.
"Big Brother is fifty this year, Second Brother and Sister both got into college, wishing Third Brother success in the exams!"
I looked at that post and smiled slightly.
Have you all prepared? Are you ready?
My Mom said, "Xiao Ran, don't mind them. Which city are you going to? I'll go with you.
I work late and haven't retired yet. As long as you can find a job, I'll follow you.
Don't worry, I won't be a burden."
I chuckled, "It's fine, I can support you."
When my dad left, he mocked My Mom coldly, "Some people just don't have the talent for exams.
Big Brother is fifty this year; he's like a star descended from heaven. Sister got into college too; she's smart.
Unlike some people, at their age, they can't even pass an exam."
