Chapter Thirty-Four: Memories of Sadako 0

Sadako was truly a gifted individual, but the fate that awaited her was an unfortunate one. 0

Bai Luo could not escape from Sadako's self-imposed isolation in her memories, so he could only follow along. 0

After Sadako's mother passed away in Shan Village, Dr. Ikuuma Heihachirou took them in and adopted them. 0

He seemed to understand both Sadako's state and her abilities very well. He locked away the Evil Sadako at home, allowing only the Good Sadako to go out, letting her attend school and learn like a normal person. 0

Bai Luo observed everything from the perspective of an outsider. 0

Sadako often felt anxious and fearful. Since being adopted by Ikuuma Heihachirou, she had not seen Sadako again, and the memories belonging to Sadako were gradually fading. Yet there was one thing… she seemed to be a symbol of misfortune; wherever she went, those who meant her harm would meet inexplicable deaths. 0

Until one day… 0

It was during a spring outing for Sadako's class. She dressed beautifully, like a princess stepping out of a fairy tale. However, the sky that day was still overcast, with clouds pressing down from the distant world, casting a shadow over everything. 0

Sadako was very beautiful. At this age, most children did not understand what sexuality was, yet hormones still held power. Many boys surrounded Sadako, while some girls whispered curses from afar. 0

Bai Luo silently watched; this was a life that did not belong to him—a life destined for sorrow and despair. 0

Someone among the students suggested going swimming in the sea. 0

The teacher quickly agreed to this proposal, and the children became excited. 0

At first, Sadako appeared thrilled—she had never been to the sea before. 0

So she stood up as well, gazing out at the ocean from atop the jagged rocks with an expression of anticipation and curiosity on her face. 0

But soon, her complexion turned pale. 0

If you could observe her eyes closely at that moment, you would see what she saw. 0

Not far beneath the surface of the sea, a massive shadow was moving. 0

It was not a creature, but rather something pure, like a tangible "Calamity." Then, on the surface of the sea, the water surged, revealing a terrified face. Those faces belonged to her classmates, all except for Sadako. Did this mean that these children, who were still excitedly wanting to swim in the sea, were about to die in this cold water? 0

Sadako turned and shouted to the children, "Don't, don't go into the sea!" 0

However, no one listened to her. In fact, a group of girls made faces at her from a distance and shouted, "Coward! You don't dare go into the sea, so why stop us?" 0

Sadako stood frozen in place, watching helplessly as her classmates one by one submerged into the water, and then... they began to scream. 0

Not far away, the teacher finally noticed something was wrong. She ran over in panic, but when she reached the shore, she was horrified to discover that those children who had just been struggling and screaming in the water had completely vanished as if they had sunk like stones into the sea. It was as if they had never existed at all; even the surface of the water returned to its calm state at that moment. 0

The teacher hesitated for a moment but ultimately did not dare to step into such a cursed ocean. She slowly backed away and then saw Sadako on the hillside. After thinking for a moment, she awkwardly ran up and grabbed Sadako's frail shoulders, asking, "Where are your classmates? What did you see?" 0

Sadako stared blankly at her teacher, panicking and stumbling over her words: "I told them... not to go into the sea... not to go into the sea... they'll all die..." 0

At that moment, Sadako did not fully understand what her words meant. Therefore, she could not grasp why the teacher looked at her as if she were a monster after she spoke the truth. 0

The teacher began to back away little by little, distancing herself from this child. 0

Sadako felt an inexplicable terror as she watched the teacher retreating from her. In desperation, she turned and ran away completely. 0

In an instant, only Sadako remained here, accompanied only by an eerie silence and stillness. 0

A wind blew in from the depths of the ocean, carrying with it a salty dampness and a scent of death. It seemed mixed with her classmates' cold laughter: "Coward!" 0

Sadako was just a child; she could no longer bear it. Crouching down with her head in her hands, she trembled uncontrollably as her white dress dragged on the ground, getting stained at one corner. 0

She began to sob amidst the heavy clouds above, crying uncontrollably with snot and tears streaming down her face. 0

The notion that a pretty Loli would cry beautifully was nothing but nonsense here. 0

Bai Luo watched with some sympathy. Although he knew there was nothing he could do, he squatted down slightly and placed his hand on the girl's shoulder as a gesture of comfort. 0

But he did not expect that at the moment his hand touched her shoulder, Sadako would turn around like she had been electrocuted. With tear-filled eyes raised towards Bai Luo, she looked at him with suspicion. 0

This was something Bai Luo had not anticipated. 0

It seemed that from this moment on... Sadako could see Bai Luo. 0

Bai Luo tried to say, "Hey." 0

Sadako, crouching on the ground and retreating several steps, warily asked, "Who are you?" 0

"I... I'm just a passerby," Bai Luo thought for a moment and also crouched down to face Sadako. "I don't know which girl is crying so beautifully, so I came over to take a look." 0

Sadako's eyes widened, and she opened her mouth, clearly wanting to say something or perhaps to comment on Bai Luo's rather cringeworthy remark. However, in her time, the 1950s and 60s, the concept of making sarcastic comments didn't exist, so she could only be left speechless. 0

At this moment, Sadako clearly did not recognize Bai Luo as an "old acquaintance." 0

Bai Luo smiled. He understood what Sadako needed at this moment and said, "But why are you sitting here crying? Let me guess—did you have a fight with your boyfriend? But I have to advise you: how old are you this year? Early romance is not a good thing, especially for a girl; it can lead to trouble. Have you heard of the eight honors and eight shames…" 0

Sadako was stunned. She widened her eyes as if she had completely forgotten the earlier horror and exclaimed, "Who—who is in an early romance?!" 0
